DEAR CAMP FAMILIES, This summer, our campers will discover anything is possible at Girl Scout camp! From making new friends to tackling new challenges, our staff can’t wait to welcome your girl for a fun-filled adventure! The camp theme this year, Ready. Set. Camp! echoes the excitement girls feel at camp. They’re set to build important life skills like teamwork, independence, and leadership, and they can’t wait to CAMP! And best of all? Girl Scout camp takes place in a safe all-girl environment where girls are guided and encouraged by our amazing camp team and campers from across North Carolina and beyond! It’s in this environment, where girls are free to be themselves, that we see their spark ignite and their confidence grow! Whether she’s swimming in a natural lake, learning to paddle a canoe or kayak, hitting the bullseye on the archery range, sharing her artistic talent during arts and crafts, or learning to build and cook over a campfire, your girl will develop grit and determination as she dives into new adventures and practices creative thinking in the outdoors! She will be safe and surrounded by her biggest fans the whole time– her counselors and new friends—who will encourage her to take the lead and lift her up as she tries new things. Maybe she falls or fails the first-time and that’s okay because at Girl Scouts, we’ll be there to cheer her on when she tries again! Girl Scouts–North Carolina Coastal Pines’ three summer resident camps each feature traditional outdoor activities like swimming, watersports, archery, crafts, campfires, and more. But each camp also offers a variety of activities unique to that camp property like climbing the Alpine Tower at Camp Mary Atkinson, sleeping among the trees in the Tree Houses at Camp Graham, and exploring the Pamlico River at Camp Hardee. We know that by sharing your camper with us, you’re placing the utmost trust in our ability to take good care of her. That’s a responsibility we take very seriously when helping girls (and families) prepare for an unforgettable summer with Girl Scouts. One of the best ways to prepare for camp is to attend a free camp open house event this spring where you and your girl can tour the property, meet camp staff, and learn more about the adventures that await! Plus, it’s a great opportunity to see your girl’s excitement about camp come to life as she hears about the new skills, friendships, and memories she’ll bring home from Girl Scout camp this summer. After all, when you feel comfortable about your camper joining us, she’ll feel that comfort, and it will set her up to be happy and relaxed while she’s at camp this summer. So, what do you say? Camp Standards Camp Graham, Camp Hardee, and Camp Mary Atkinson are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), a national organization that sets high standards for the health and safety of campers and staff and the delivery of quality programs. In addition to meeting the established standards for health, safety, program, and personnel criteria set by federal, state, and local governments, our camps meet the standards set by Girl Scouts of the USA.

Girls dive into a whole new world of activities at Girl Scout camp â&#x20AC;&#x201D; swimming in lakes, working together to steer a canoe, practicing making the perfect shot in archery, exploring nature during an afternoon hike, learning to cook over a fire, and cheering on friends as they challenge themselves to try new things. Girls also strengthen their skills and grow their passion for environmental stewardship through our outdoor leadership programming.

What’s in Store at Camp Every day at camp is truly a new adventure, and no two days are ever the same. Weekly themes are used to differentiate our sessions, and all campers enjoy traditional camp activities each week like swimming, canoeing, archery, arts and crafts, and much more! Weekly themes influence decorations, music, skits, crafts, costumes, and all-camp activities. Whatever the adventure holds, girls are sure to have a great time at Girl Scout camp.

CAMP EXTRAS Pamper your camper with fun camp extras! To make your camper’s week more memorable, pre-order care items from our Trading Post Shop at a discounted price. The pre-ordered care items will be available for pickup at camp check-in. These items will also be for sale in the Girl Scout Trading Post shop during camp season while supplies last. Camp Essentials Care Kit – $35 Your camper will receive camp essentials including a water bottle, cooling towel, camp journal with pen, camp postcard with stamp, and a stuffed camp friend - all in a cool camp bag! Camp T-shirts – $13 Order your “Ready. Set. Camp!” T-shirt now! T-shirts are $13 and come in youth medium and large and adult small through 4XL. Camp Photos – $6 A photo of your camper with her unit is a fantastic way to bring home lasting memories of new friends and a great time at camp. Photos are distributed on the last day of the session.

Trading Post Parents can purchase council gift cards to be used at the camp’s Trading Post shop. Campers will use the funds during their camp week to shop at the Trading Post for camp themed items such as T-shirts, fun patches, plush animals, flashlights, disposable cameras, and more. Cash is not allowed at any camp. All cards are kept in the Trading Post during the camp session and returned on the last day of camp if there is a balance remaining. Remaining balances will be kept on the Trading Post card. Trading Post cards can be used from year-to-year for Trading Post purchases as well as in all council shops, or they may be donated to the council at the end of camp. During each camp’s open house, the Trading Post will be open for shopping and a sneak preview of Camp 2020 merchandise!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who can attend Girl Scout camp?

Who are the camp staff?

Camp is open to all girls ages 5-17. Some programs have entering grade requirements or prerequisites which must be met to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all campers.

Camp staff members are enthusiastic, talented, and caring. They are selected based on maturity, program experience, and genuine desire to work with girls. Counselors are 18+ years old with the exception of older Girl Scouts completing our Counselor-inTraining (CIT) programs. While most camp staff are from North Carolina, we work to recruit diverse staff from many different countries around the world. These staff members share their culture with the campers through camp activities.

My camper is not a member of Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines but would like to attend camp. Can she attend? Are there additional fees? Girl Scout camps are open to all girls. Girls who are not members of Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines pay an additional $100 on their camp bill per session.

Where do campers sleep? Girls are grouped in units, and may sleep in cabins, treehouses, or platform tents depending on their program choice and camp property. Each unit has trained counselors housed in separate quarters within the living unit, but close enough to supervise campers. In select sessions at each camp, counselors sleep in the same cabin as girls. Unless noted in session charts, lodging assignments will not be given prior to check in at camp.

Can my camper attend camp with a buddy/friend? During registration, a buddy’s name can be listed. Buddies must be in the same age group and must register for the same session. We are not able to honor requests for more than one buddy.

What type of training does camp staff receive? Before camp begins, staff attend an intensive on-site training which includes activity programming, outdoor skills, songs, games, first aid and safety, emergency procedures, team building, program age level characteristics, working through homesickness, and more.

My child has specific needs. Can she attend camp? Each year, many girls with specific needs participate in our camp program. Girls must be able to function in a 6:1 girl-to-adult ratio. Specific needs may include a range of physical, medical, developmental, dietary, behavioral, or communicative abilities. It is our hope to be able to serve all girls wishing to attend camp. Providing a safe and positive experience to all campers is of utmost importance to us. The council reserves the right to make decisions of participation based on the extent of the girl’s needs and our ability to meet those needs in the camp setting, as well as other factors as deemed appropriate. We are concerned about the health and safety of all campers, and we want to ensure we have appropriate professional and medical services to meet needs. Please contact the camp director at 800-284-4475 to discuss the camp program and nature of your girl’s needs before registering for camp.

My camper has specific dietary needs or restrictions. How are menus managed at camp?

What measures are taken to ensure my child’s safety while at camp?

Menus are planned with the general camp population and economy of associated costs in mind. We will make every attempt to provide for specific dietary needs within the scope of our regular menus. Please contact the camp director at 800-284-4475 for more information.

We are dedicated to providing safe and secure camps. Each camp follows the guidelines set by the American Camp Association as well as those set by Girl Scouts of the USA through Safety Activity Checkpoints. Staff are housed in close proximity to camper cabins and tents, and buildings and grounds are checked nightly. All camp staff and adults spending the night at camp must successfully complete a criminal background check.

Can my camper call home during the week? Campers are not permitted to make or receive phone calls. We encourage independence and self-reliance during camp. The camp director will contact parents if a camper has a medical problem, is excessively homesick, or has an emergency. Please let your child know before camp that she will not be able to call home and that you are comfortable with this. It is important not to send your child to camp with a cell phone. There is little coverage on our properties, and more importantly, it will send a conflicting message to other campers. We are partners with you in your child’s summer experience, and we hope that you will support us with this camp policy.

Can I visit my camper during a camp session? To help maintain program continuity and ensure the safety of campers, visitors are only allowed at camp during open house and arrival/departure hours.

What happens if my camper has a difficult time adjusting to camp? Camp staff will do everything possible to help girls adjust to camp life. However, resident camp staff reserve the right to send home any camper who consistently exhibits inappropriate behavior or endangers herself or others. A camper’s parent/caregiver is responsible for picking her up and fees will not be refunded.

If our plans change, how do I cancel my child’s session? Can I get a refund? Please notify our customer care team as soon as possible if plans change and your camper can no longer attend camp. Once you register for a session, you have made a commitment to that session and are responsible for payment in full. Refunds are available under special circumstances less the non-refundable deposit. Please see page 24 for our refund and cancellation policy.

When is the last day to register for camp? Camp registration closes two weeks prior to the session your camper wishes to attend. Exceptions can be made if space is available. Please note: adventure trip campers and overnight offsite camps will also need to have had a physical completed by a physician within the past 12 months.

When can I expect to receive confirmation information about Summer Camp? Once you have completed your registration for camp, you can log back in your MYGS account and have access to the 2020 Summer Camp Confirmation on the My Activities page. Confirmation packets will be emailed to all campers registered as of May 1, 2020. 7

GRAHAM Camp Graham is a camper’s dream! Camp Graham is a camper’s dream! Situated on the banks of Kerr Lake, Camp Graham’s 155 acres of lakefront, open areas, and woodlands, are the perfect location for girls to explore the outdoors. G.I.R.L.s will experience a variety of camp activities including hiking, field and nature games, archery, sailing, swimming, and more. At Camp Graham, girls move through their daily activities with their unit (girls assigned to the same tent or cabin or quarters) and counselors! Morning sessions begin after breakfast and activities are based on the camper’s age. They may include taking aim at the archery range, enjoying the lake with a swim, or exploring camp by canoe or kayak. Girls will discover the natural beauty of the outdoors in a variety of settings like going on a nature hike or embarking on an outdoor scavenger hunt to gather items for arts and crafts. In the afternoon, the outdoor fun and adventures continue with the day wrapping up under the stars as the girls fall asleep to the sound of the crickets and trees in either a platform tent, treehouse, or cabin.

You’re about to embark on a fun-filled camp adventure! Challenge yourself to try new things and explore nature during your week at Camp Graham. Explore all the fun that camp offers with opportunities to boat and swim in Kerr Lake, get crafty, and hike the trails. Show off your tie-dye skills, make a s’more, and share a smile around the campfire.

Entering Grades 9-12 $325 through 3/31. $350 starting 4/1. There are so many fabulous activities to try at camp! You can paddle board on the lake, take an epic night hike through the woods, test your aim at archery, or make the coolest tie-dye. Together, we’ll have a week unlike any other!

SPECIALTY CAMP SESSIONS Horse Camp Entering Grades Vary (see camp session table on page 12) $475 through 3/31. $500 starting 4/1. Our summer horse program allows you to experience horses in a fun and safe environment. You will learn beginner Western horseback riding skills such as walking and controlling your mount, and basic care and grooming. Campers will be placed in groups based upon an assessment made by the director of the horse program. All campers are required to wear long pants and boots appropriate for riding. Helmets, saddles, and other riding gear is provided. When you are not at the stable, you will enjoy participating in other camp activities with your horse-loving pals!

Magical Memories Entering Grades 4-6 $475 through 3/31. $500 starting 4/1. Join us for this special 10-day session Wednesday, June 17, 2020 through Friday, June 26, 2020. We will spend our time at camp cooking outdoors, going on night adventures, making crafts, hanging out on the lake, exploring nature, and much more. Girls will get to choose an offsite excursion to go on during their time at camp.

Chopped Challenge Entering Grades Vary $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Do you love to create culinary masterpieces? Join us as we practice both outdoor and indoor cooking techniques, have team competitions with mystery ingredients, make dishes of your choice, and learn new culinary skills. While not cooking, you will get to enjoy all that camp has to offer.

You Did What at Camp! Entering Grades 6-10 $650 through 3/31. $675 starting 4/1. During this exciting two-week camp session, you will spend your time participating in both on-camp and off-camp adventures like seeing a drive-in movie, rock climbing, and planning your own day trip. Babysitter Training and Pediatric First Aid/CPR Entering Grades 6-10 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for infants and children, manage a babysitting business, as well as recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies. In addition to receiving Babysitting certification, girls receive their Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification.

Do-It-Herself Entering Grades 7-10 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Calling all Pinterest and Do-It-Yourself (DIY) project lovers! Spend the week at camp trying your hand at a variety of DIY and arts and crafts projects while discovering all that Camp Graham has to offer on the shores and in the lake. Specific projects will be selected by campers during the session.

Badge Blitz Entering Grades 6-8 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. It’s all about the badges! Come join us for a week filled with camp fun and badge activities. Girls will complete a variety of Girl Scout Outdoor and Legacy badges while enjoying watersports, arts & crafts and nature play.

Camera Magic Entering Grades 6-8 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Do you love taking pictures of yourself and friends? Go beyond the selfie at this amazing camp session! Photos are for more than just Snapchat or Instagram posts, they create a visual history of the places you go and the things you do. In this session, you will use a camera to capture your own image and create your own idea of media. You will get to work with a professional photographer to learn how to take quality photos. When you’re not behind the lens, you will get to do the great things offered at camp, such as waterfront activities, archery, and more! Participants will need to supply their own digital camera.

Wayfinders Entering Grades 7-10 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Sailing can bring you relaxing days on the water or challenging competition. Learn to sail a Sunfish with a certified instructor and build your confidence and ability to sail the boat well and safely. Once you learn the basics on Kerr Lake, you’ll depart for an overnight sailing adventure. Prior sailing experience is not required but is highly recommended. Participants must be able to swim 100 yards and tread water for five minutes.

Do you play an instrument or love to sing? Interested in being part of a camp band for a week? Come rock out with new friends as you learn camp songs and explore camp. Participants will give a short performance during the closing ceremony.

Do you love camp and enjoy working with younger children? Would you like to be a camp staff member one day? If so, join us and become a Counselor-in-Training (CIT). This training is one of the best ways to develop skills to become a truly fabulous future camp counselor.

Amongst the Stars

CIT II

Entering Grades Vary $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Come unravel the mysteries of the night sky as we explore the depths of the universe. Explore the camp on night hikes, search for the moon and planets through telescopes, and go stargazing. When not exploring the sky, campers will enjoy all the fun camp has to offer.

Entering Grades 11-12 $400 through 3/31. $425 starting 4/1. Ready to take the next step on your journey to becoming a future camp staff member? This two-week program gives you more responsibility by planning and leading a program for younger girls. Shadow staff in specific areas of camp, learn more about camp administration, and assist in planning programming for young campers. You will stay at camp over the weekend. There is an optional third week immediately following the two-week session for those who are interested. If you are at least 16 years old and participate in the third week, you may apply to be considered for a paid position for the remainder of the summer.

Troop camp sessions are designed for a group of girls and adults to attend resident camp as a troop. Explore the wilds of camp while participating in swimming, archery, or canoeing. Stay for a weeklong session, arriving Sunday afternoon and leaving Friday afternoon. Meals are prepared in the dining hall. A troop/group must have at least six girls and two adult participants to be eligible to register for troop camp. HARDEE Explore the beautiful waterfront of the Pamlico River! Camp Hardee has a great family feel with campers interacting with all age groups during evening activities and meals. Unique to Camp Hardee are air conditioned cabins, which are all brightly colored for the beach feel. We offer walking trails, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, archery, arts & crafts, a hammock village, an inground pool for swimming, and the great outdoors for exploring. This camp is located on 97 acres with a perfect view of the Pamlico River. Each day, girls channel their inner G.I.R.L. through exciting activities where they try new things, develop and hone their skills, and encourage fellow campers to step out of their comfort zone to try something new. One night each week, girls choose their dinner as a unit and cook over charcoal or camp stove (with assistance from counselors). If that isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t enough, we have evening camp-wide activities like international night, pool parties, and themed evening programs depending on the session week. Weather permitting, we open and close camp with campfires, where the girls get to experience the magic of camp through songs, fellowship, stories, and of course, sâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;mores!

To help the imagine campers adjust to camp, there will be counselors that will be staying in the cabin. Of course, the week wouldn’t be complete for our youngest go-getters without campfire and s’mores!

It’s time for you to lead your next epic adventure! In this session you choose your path along the voyage, whether it is archery, boating, crafts, swimming, hiking, or something entirely new. Make new friends and challenge yourself to stretch your limits. Let’s get started on our grand adventure!

SPECIALTY CAMP SESSIONS Babysitter Training and Pediatric First Aid/CPR Entering Grades 6-10 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for infants and children, manage a babysitting business, as well as recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies. In addition to receiving Babysitting certification, girls receive their Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification.

Sailing II Entering Grades 7-12 $675 through 3/31. $700 starting 4/1. Did you like Sailing 1? Want to know more? Join us for this two-week session where you get to sail daily. On the weekend you will take a trip down the Pamlico River, land for lunch, and sail back to camp. During this time, you will have the opportunity to sail solo. To be eligible for this session, campers must have completed Sailing 1 at either Camp Hardee or Camp Graham and must be able to swim 100 yards and tread water for five minutes.

Sailing I Entering Grades 6-10 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Want to learn to sail? This is perfect for you. We have certified instructors to teach you everything you will need to know to captain a sailboat. You will learn the parts of the boat and how to maneuver the boat on the Pamlico River. You never know â&#x20AC;&#x201D; this may be your next favorite hobby. Attending campers must be able to swim 100 yards and tread water for five minutes.

CIT I Entering Grades 9-10 $300 through 3/31. $325 starting 4/1. Do you love camp and enjoy working with younger children? Would you like to be a camp staff member one day? If so, join us and become a Counselor-inTraining (CIT). This training is one of the best ways to develop skills to become a truly fabulous future camp counselor.

CIT II Entering Grades 11-12 $400 through 3/31. $425 starting 4/1. Ready to take the next step on your journey to becoming a future camp staff member? This two-week program gives you more responsibility planning and leading a program for younger girls. Shadow staff in specific areas of camp, learn more about camp administration, and assist in planning programming for young campers. You will stay at camp over the weekend. There is an optional third week immediately following the two-week session for those who are interested. If you are at least 16 years old and participate in the third week, you may apply to be considered for a paid position for the remainder of the summer. 15

Bring your whole family to camp to have a blast on the Pamlico River! This is a great opportunity to meet other families and see what camp is all about. Everyone will have a chance to swim, boat, do arts and crafts, play games, and enjoy a campfire with s’mores. Meals will be provided in the dining hall. We’ll have a campfire full of songs and skits, so get your performance ready! Each family will be able to choose their own adventure. Choose between renting a cabin, reserving a tent site, or bringing your own RV (no hookups). Adults must be registered Girl Scout members with a background check. Cabin accommodations, capacity eight per cabin. $85 per cabin. RV or Tent campsite accommodations (bring your own) capacity eight per site. $50 per campsite.

Just Us Girls June 19-21 or July 10-12 Camp Mary Atkinson | $75 per person For girls entering all grades Nothing beats a girls-only weekend at camp! Invite your favorite female adult on a two-night adventure at Camp Mary Atkinson for a weekend that’s all about the girls. Join our fun-loving camp staff to make a craft, canoe the lake, discover a new activity, or challenge yourself to climb the Alpine Tower (girls entering grade 4 and up). Enjoy home-cooked meals, sing songs, make s’mores, and create new memories just for the two of you! Lodging will be shared with other girls and adults. The attending adult female must be 18 years or older (mom, sister, aunt, etc.), registered with Girl Scouts, and have successfully completed a criminal background check.

If you can’t quite imagine what it all looks like, come see for yourself! We’d love to have you stop by our free open house on March 8 to check out our facilities and meet some of our camp staff.

MARY ATKINSON Days at Camp Mary Atkinson bring a variety of activities including boating, archery, swimming, and crafts! Girls rotate through activities with their lodging unit, while horse campers head to the barn for their daily riding and activities. Depending on  age and ability, girls may canoe, kayak, or paddle board on our small lake.  Girls will find themselves channeling their inner G.I.R.L. while exploring nature trails, fishing, or playing games. Girls entering grades 4 and up may have a chance to climb the Alpine Tower: best view on camp! Evening brings flag lowering, dinner, and an evening activity such as a pool party, large-group game, or an all-camp activity based on the weekly theme. During the final evening at camp, girls and staff will enjoy a traditional Girl Scout staple - a campfire. Staff lead everyone in much-loved camp songs and units perform skits they’ve created and practiced throughout the week. We can’t wait to see what our G.I.R.L.s bring this year!

Create a week of summer camp you’ll never forget! Being an older girl means working with your peers and counselors to put together a camp experience to remember. Perhaps you’ll take some old favorites to the next level with paddleboard yoga, Swing by Choice at the Alpine Tower, or advanced tie dye techniques. Sprinkle in some new ideas from your own imagination. Don’t forget the classics like friendship bracelets and s’mores!

You will learn beginner English horseback riding skills such as walking and controlling your mount, as well as basic care and grooming. Campers will be placed in groups based upon an assessment made by the director of the horse program. All campers are required to wear long pants and boots appropriate for riding. Helmets, saddles, and other riding gear is provided. Girls will spend the majority of each day participating in grooming, riding and other exciting activities with the horses, but there will also be opportunities to swim and enjoy a few general camp activities with your horse-loving pals! *Please note that campers attending a horse session may not have the opportunity to participate in all listed camp activities due to their schedule with horses. Horse session campers will not have the opportunity to climb the Alpine Tower.

Choose Your Adventure Entering Grades 6-8 $625 through 3/31. $650 starting 4/1. Can’t get enough of camp? Join us for a two-week session filled with even more of your favorite camp activities, cookouts, and adventures! Decide with staff what activities you most want to do and plan your schedule. You will create a project to leave a positive mark on camp and take an offsite day trip during the weekend. Campers will stay at camp over the weekend and will have the opportunity to do laundry once while at camp.

Program Aide Entering Grades 6-8 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Do you enjoy working with younger girls? Come enjoy camp AND become a trained Program Aide (PA). You will also complete the steps to achieve your LiA Award which is required of all Program Aides. Get hands-on experience working with our Frolic campers while also taking time to enjoy your favorite camp activities.

Through videos, group discussions, and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, and receive waterfront training. Successful completion results in a two-year certificate in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, which includes First Aid, professional-level CPR, and AED in one certificate. Campers must be 15-years-old and able to complete the required written and skills test as well as lifeguarding prerequisites: swim 300 yards, continuous treading water for two minutes without using arms, and complete a timed swim/dive/swim brick retrieval. Campers who are unable to complete the prerequisites will join a typical camp session for their age group.

Wilderness and Remote First Aid Entering Grades 10-12 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. Welcome to a week of blazing new trails and gaining valuable skills! Through videos, group discussions, and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork and receive first aid training for remote settings. Campers must be able to complete the required written test and display proficiency of skills in order to obtain certification. When you’re not practicing your first aid skills, you’ll have the opportunity to put a new twist on some camp favorites – perhaps a sunrise paddle on the lake or a night hike to listen for owls.

! s p i r t ADVENTURE Calling all G.I.R.L.s! Adventure trips are the perfect camp experience for go-getters and risk-takers who are looking to take summer camp to the next level. You will journey off-site from camp each week with your fellow adventurers and spend a few days trying new things, exploring our great state and beyond, and making memories of a lifetime before returning to camp for final campfire on the last night. All adventure trips are based out of Camp Mary Atkinson located in Johnston County.

Footprints in the Clouds June 20-26, 2020 For girls entering grades 6-12 $450 per girl. Registration opens 1/1/20. Come hike the Appalachian Trail! Experienced leaders will teach you everything you need to know to become a confident hiker. For our multi-day Appalachian Trail hike, you will carry a pack weighing 25–30 pounds. Backpacks and all other specialized hiking gear except footwear will be provided. Each hiker will need hiking boots and hiking socks, at a cost of approximately $100. Basic camping and first aid skills are helpful, but not required. In order to attend the weeklong trip, participants MUST attend the preparation weekend at Camp Mary Atkinson, March 28-29. You will receive more details upon registration. Note: Registration deadline is March 3, 2020.

Llama Trek June 21-26 or July 26-31 For girls entering grades 7-12 $475 through 3/31. $500 starting 4/1. Take to the trails of the Smoky Mountains with the help of llamas to carry your group’s gear. You’ll cook your own meals, get an introduction to backpack camping, and hike through gorgeous scenery in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. Don’t forget to take plenty of selfies with the llamas on your trek!

Rafting the Rapids July 5-10 For girls entering grades 8-12 $475 through 3/31. $500 starting 4/1. With rapids to raft and ziplines to explore, this trip is for girls who like to be on the move and love adventure! Spend a night at camp, then head to Ace Adventure Resort in West Virginia for the expedition of a summer. You’ll even get to learn a thing or two about the unique ecosystem as you explore.

Surf’s Up! July 12-17

Head to the Outer Banks for a few days of paddling and exploring nature. You will have a chance to kayak the coast to explore a variety of areas and ecosystems, and will go on an evening kayak tour as well! Camp at a public campground, explore state parks, and return to camp for final campfire on Thursday.

Canopy Adventures July 19-24 For girls entering grades 8-12 $475 through 3/31. $500 starting 4/1.

For girls entering grades 7-12 $475 through 3/31. $500 starting 4/1. As the summer heats up, it’s the perfect time to head to the North Carolina coast for some time in the ocean! On this trip, you will take surfing lessons so you can catch your own wave, camp at a public campground, and cook your own meals with your new friends. Girls must be able to swim 100 yards, tread water for five minutes, stay underwater for short periods of time, and lift a lightweight surfboard. June 14-19 Fantasy & Fairytales Week

Take a trip to the coast for a few days of adventure! Zip through the canopy and see what lives in the trees, then take a boat tour through the swamp while learning about this fascinating ecosystem. We will camp at a public campground and return to camp for final campfire on Thursday evening.

Day camps and twilight camps typically serve girls entering grades 1-8 with either day-long or early evening programming. These volunteer-run sessions are offered at various locations throughout the councilâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 41-county footprint and provide an enlightening experience for girls to explore new things and meet new friends. Teens have the special opportunity to serve as Program Aides (PA) at some camps.

REGISTER FOR CAMP Register online by visiting www.nccoastalpines.org. Sign into your My GS Member Profile then go to the activity page and use the search box. Resident camp registration opens on February 3, 2020. Any girl who will be entering grades 2 through 12 in the Fall 2020 can register for resident camp at that time, regardless of whether or not she is a Girl Scout member. Non-Girl Scout–North Carolina Coastal Pines members will pay a $100 non-member fee per session. This is an additional fee added to both discounted and non-discounted camp pricing. To request a hard copy of a resident camp or day camp form, please contact the Customer Care team at helpdesk@nccoastalpines.org or 800-284-4475. Local Day Camp registration opens March 2, 2020. Day camp is typically open to any girl, ages 5-17. Some day camps focus on specific grade levels and may not be open to all ages. Additional camp opportunities such as troop camp, family camp, and Day Camp at Camp Mary Atkinson are open to listed grade levels. Registration opens for these sessions on February 3, 2020.

Deposit A $100 non-refundable deposit is required for all resident camp registration. Balance of registration fee is due by May 1. Family Camp and Day Camp registrations are paid in full at the time of registration (no deposits are taken). Note: Fees for camp extras are due at the time of registration.

Final Payment Date Camp fees must be paid in full by May 1, 2020. Your camper’s registration may be cancelled for non payment and any payments will be forfeited. Depending on the number of girls on the waitlist, your camper’s slot may be filled immediately. Please be mindful of this important date, as we usually have wait listed other girls who want to attend camp. Payments can be made online or by check, credit card, or Cookie Dough at one of our four service center locations. Financial assistance is also available.

AT CAMP

Claire*, a Girl Scout Cadette, woke up at Camp Mary Atkinson to make her dreams of riding horses a reality. Madison* heard the wake-up call of the resident rooster at Camp Graham from her bunk in the Treehouses. Girl Scout Brownie Katie* had to only take a few steps from her bed to watch the dolphins on the Pamlico River. Claire, Madison, and Katie woke up that first day of camp and throughout the rest of the week they had an experience no different than the nearly 2,000 girls who attended Summer Camp in our council last summer. They swam, learned new things, and made lifelong friends.

Yet... ... Claire’s family lost their home in Hurricane Florence, ... Madison lives in foster care, and ... Katie is being raised by her grandparents. Girls from every background deserve the same experiences. That’s why we ensure full anonymity of our Campership recipients. Unless she tells her friends, no Campership recipients are identified during their week at camp - even to the counselors! This helps all girls learn and grow together at camp.

Early Registration Incentive All registrations placed prior to March 31 will be billed at the discounted rate published in this year’s program guide. Any registration received after March 31 will be billed at the higher rate listed in the guide. The $100 non-member fee will be added to the registration fee regardless of whether the registration is received before or after March 31.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION AND POLICIES Cancellation and Refund Policy A significant amount of planning, time, and money are spent months prior to the start of camp. Prompt cancellation notification allows time for girls who may be on the camp session’s waiting list to attend camp. If you find that your camper can no longer attend a camp session, please notify the council as early as possible. • A full refund will be provided if your camper is on a session waitlist and is not placed in that session. • A full refund will be provided if a session is cancelled by the council due to insufficient registration, acts of nature, or other reasons beyond its control. • A refund in the amount of fees paid, less any nonrefundable deposit, will be made when a written cancellation notice is received at least 15 days prior to the camp session date. • A council gift card in the amount of fees paid, less any nonrefundable deposit, will be issued to the registrant if written notice is received less than 15 days prior to the camp session date. • In the event that a registrant has a family emergency or is sick, a written refund request must be made no later than 10 business days after the camp. Camp as a Superstar Destination Cookie Dough earned during the Girl Scout Cookie Program may be applied toward resident camp sessions, Family Camp, Trading Post gift cards, day camps, and council-sponsored events. The easiest way to apply your 2020 cookie dough toward these activities is to choose this option on the Superstar Destinations survey. Girl Scouts–North Carolina Coastal Pines understands the value of camp and continues to provide financial support to offer these important programs at affordable rates. Camp fees cover most council direct costs such as food, program supplies, supplementary health and accident insurance, and camp counselor salaries. Indirect costs such as planning and administering the program, registration, and property maintenance are costs subsidized by the council. Our council’s total expense for a week at one of our three Girl Scout resident summer camps exceeds $650 per girl. Families are only asked, on average, to pay $325 per girl. Did you know that cookies help to make summer camp happen? Proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program help our council provide high-quality summer experiences for all girls regardless of their socio-economic status.

Camperships

Sue “Skipper” Csorba Award

Financial assistance in the form of camperships enables all girls to enjoy the Girl Scout camp experience. Camperships are made possible thanks to our many generous donors and are available to currently registered Girl Scouts–North Carolina Coastal Pines members who are unable to pay the total cost of a camp experience.

The Sue “Skipper” Csorba Award is a campership honoring a Girl Scout alumna from Annapolis, Maryland. As a troop leader, Sue Csorba was committed to giving girls outdoor experiences and determined to have an inclusive troop of girls from all races, incomes, and family situations. With Sue Csorba’s vision and passion in mind, the fund provides a limited number of camp awards each summer. Girl Scouts–North Carolina Coastal Pines will provide these awards based on need, and will consider a variety of factors including financial, family, and home situation. Priority is given to first-time campers.

To be considered for a campership, a girl must be a registered Girl Scout member, have selected and registered for her summer camp session, and paid the non-refundable deposit fee. For more information about camperships or to apply online, please visit www.nccoastalpines.org. You can also apply by mail, a request form is included on page 27. Applications are due by April 1. Please note: Families may apply for up to $200 in financial assistance per girl member. Awards are limited to one session per girl member, not to exceed $200. If you would like to make summer resident camp possible for a girl, please make your donation to the Campership Fund during the online registration process or on the registration form. Donations are tax deductible.

Applications are due to the Raleigh Service Center by January 17, 2020. For the Csorba Award, a deposit is not required with the campership application. Recipients will be notified of their award by February 3, 2020. This award excludes horse camps, family fun sessions, leadership camps, and adventure trips.
