LEARN TO RIDE THE RIGHT WAY
MOTORCYCLE — BASIC RIDER COURSE For beginning and re-entry riders, this three-day course covers operating motorcycle controls and simple riding skills, including starts, stops, turns and shifts. Students also learn strategies for riding in traffic and practice additional skills, such as swerves, corners, and emergency stops. –Classes meet on the Jamestown Campus at the Public Safety Building and the Driving Track. –Classes are 3 days (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday). –Students who complete and pass the course will be eligible to take the written exam at the NC DMV. FUEL YOUR DESIRE TO LEARN SOMETHNG NEW
BASIC SMALL ENGINE REPAIR In this course students learn basic operation and repair of two- and four-stroke internal combustion engines. The course covers troubleshooting, inspections, repair, and preventive maintenance through classroom instruction and hands-on lab experience with small engines. The goal is to add valuable skills to improve employment opportunities. – Classes meet 2 days a week for 5 weeks at the Cameron Campus in Colfax. – Students are required to bring their own individual small engine and basic hand tools.
ASSEMBLE BEAUTIFUL ARRANGEMENTS
FLORAL DESIGN Designed for students to learn the basics of floral design, this course includes principles and elements of color theory, tools of the trade, handling and flower identification and how to create basic arrangements. Students completing this course develop a better understanding of retail floral design and customer choices in floral design. – Classes meet 8/27-10/1, Thursdays, 1 day a week for 6 weeks, Greensboro campus. – Additional costs may apply. CREATE ART USING THE LATEST SOFTWARE DIGITAL PAINTING & DESIGN Through hands-on projects, students learn how to use Adobe Creative Cloud and other digital tools to combine images and create patterns and textures to use in a variety of projects. Students completing this course will know how to manipulate images and transform them into custom artwork. – 3-week class meets 1 day per week on the Greensboro campus.
MAKE A STUNNING IMPRESSION JEWELRY DESIGN — BEGINNERS This introductory course is designed for students with limited knowledge of jewelry design/making. Students learn how to select and purchase materials and tools, as they make their own necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Upon completion, students also gain helpful hints and shortcuts to jewelry making. – 4-week class meets 1 day each week on the Greensboro Campus. – Tuition cost covers some basic materials. Additional costs may apply.
EXPLORE A VIRTUAL MARKETPLACE INTRODUCTION TO ONLINE CONSIGNMENT This course helps students learn the fundamentals of online consignment through consigning, selling and distributing goods to consumers using programs such as Poshmark, eBay, Craigslist or Let Go. By the end of the course, students will be able to create their own virtual shopping closet to sell merchandise through online sites or through creating their own website. – 3-week class meets 1 day per week on the Greensboro campus.
FULFILL AN IMPORTANT ROLE NOTARY PUBLIC This seven-hour, one-day course provides intensive instruction for those interested in applying to be a Notary Public in North Carolina. Students completing the course with a score of at least 80% on the exam may then apply to the Secretary of State Office to become a Notary Public. – The course is offered on the Greensboro, High Point, Jamestown and Cameron campuses. – Additional costs apply.
LOOK FORWARD TO BETTER FINANCES RETIREMENT PLANNING This comprehensive course helps you see the “big picture” of how different areas of personal finance combine to form an integrated retirement plan. The goal is to teach you how to better manage your finances in order to provide for your future needs, all taught in a fun, entertaining format. – 2-week course meets once a week on Greensboro or Jamestown campuses.
DIAL UP YOUR CURB APPEAL HOME AND GARDEN Choose from a variety of courses designed to help you improve your home, inside and out. Get the basics on landscape design, installation, maintenance and updates, along with keeping your lawn looking its best. You can even learn how to keep your garden in bloom all year and how to use basic interior design principles to give the inside of your home an upgrade. – Courses range from 2 to 7 weeks and are offered on the Jamestown campus.

MAKE FITNESS YOUR CAREER CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER Whether training for a career in the fitness industry, or just adding knowledge to help yourself be more healthy and fit, the Certified Personal Training program offers in-depth instructions and hands-on experiences to make it happen. Courses combine 15 hours of lectures on key topics with practical sessions, providing the opportunity to pursue Level 2 certification that includes a 30-hour internship. – 1-month classes are taught on the Greensboro campus and at the Clubs @Greensboro Green Valley. – Additional costs may apply.
FINISH LIKE A PROFESSIONAL CAKE DECORATING Learn the delectable art of cake decorating with beginner and intermediate courses covering everything from basic techniques to more advanced cake designs. Ice cakes evenly, learn basic lettering, decorative borders and flowers. Then move on to working with buttercream, fondant, and multi-tiered cakes. – 1-month classes meet once a week on the Greensboro campus. – Additional costs and supplies required.
HELP KEEP THE ROADS SAFE ESCORT VEHICLE OPERATOR CERTIFICATION This program offers classroom training and certification in order to help ensure the safe escort of oversize vehicles on the state’s roads. GTCC offers a beginner’s course that meets the requirements of the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT), plus a re-certification course for those needing to renew their license. – The beginner course is 8 hours. – The re-certifications course is 4 hours. – Both courses are offered at the High Point campus.
START A NEW CONVERSATION AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) Learn to communicate and better understand the vibrant culture around this unique language. Beginner and intermediate courses are offered to help students develop functional knowledge of sign language and signing skills, as well as an appreciation for deaf culture, tradition and appropriate signing behaviors. – 8-week courses meet once a week at the Gibsonville Parks & Recreation Community Center and at the GTCC Greensboro campus.
CREATE MORE COMPELLING PICTURES PHOTOGRAPHY Learn and develop the skills for capturing beautiful photographic images through this series of beginner to intermediate courses. From the basics of camera operation, terminology and technical proficiency to more advanced exploration into abstract photographic composition, these courses are designed to challenge photographers at any level. – 6-week courses are offered on the Greensboro and Jamestown campuses. – Students are required to bring their own camera.

HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY AND ESOL COURSES GTCC offers a range of tuition-free courses to help adults prepare themselves for greater opportunities through Adult Education. Our High School Equivalency (HSE) program offers classes to help adults complete their secondary education by earning a GED, Adult High School diploma, or other HSE credential. Classes range from beginning reading and math to advanced. Plus, students can get effective English language training, from beginner to advanced ESOL, including classes for TOEFL, citizenship and family literacy. TRAIN TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY PUBLIC SAFETY PROGRAMS GTCC is home to one of the premier criminal justice, emergency medical, and fire training facilities in North Carolina. We offer all mandated pre-service and in-service training to public safety professionals, as well as specialized classes and programs to enhance performance and safety. Criminal Justice – Certification Courses in Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET), General Instructor Certification, Speed Measurement Instrument and more. – Criminal Investigation Certificate / Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Programs to enhance the skills of current officers. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Emergency Medical Science teaches basic entry-level skills and includes classroom, practical laboratory sessions, and clinical internships. – EMT training for becoming an emergency medical technician, and taking the state or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician credential exam. Fire Occupational Extension and the Fire Academy – 19-week Fire Academy program for earning the basic certifications required to apply for firefighting positions. – Fire Continuing Education Classes for current members, covering basic fire/rescue/Hazmat certification, specialty, and refresher classes. KEEP THE ECONOMY MOVING EFFICIENTLY LOGISTICS/SUPPLY CHAIN Businesses everywhere look for ways to make logistics and supply chain processes run more efficiently and effectively. GTCC offers two four-hour courses in the Inventory Control Workshop Series through a partnership with the Piedmont Triad APICS chapter, to help students and professionals develop business capabilities that are in demand. – Basics of Inventory Management (4 hours) – Provides participants with a broad overview of basic inventory concepts and management strategies. – Cycle Counting (4 hours) – Teaches why and how to implement a cycle counting program to find and fix the causes of inventory errors. MAKE YOUR CAREER TAKE OFF AVIATION MANUFACTURING/QUICK CAREERS Aviation programs at GTCC can put students on the leading edge of the industry with hands-on training at state-of-the-art facilities. USE YOUR SKILLS TO HELP OTHERS MEDICAL INTERPRETER — SPANISH/ENGLISH GTCC offers a Quick Careers Medical Interpreter program for Spanish/English bilingual students looking to enter a career in healthcare helping patients communicate with medical professionals. The program features a series of courses to prepare students for earning professional certification and an in-depth understanding of medical terminology across both languages. – 192-hour program covers terminology, national standards and ethical practices as well as practice with case studies. – Students who successfully complete all of the courses in the program are eligible to sit for the National Healthcare interpreter Certification Exam to become a Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI). TAKE YOUR BUSINESS FURTHER BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY TRAINING Business and Industry Training at GTCC is designed to support the ongoing training and success of area businesses. BUILD TOWARD A STRONGER FUTURE INTRODUCTION TO CRAFT SKILLS FOR CONSTRUCTION This program introduces students to skills and tools that will help them get started in the construction industry. The training includes hands-on experiences and quality, professional instruction as a foundation for many of the construction trades. – 115-hour training provides an introduction to construction math, hand tools, power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging material handling, carpentry, plumbing and electrical trades, along with basic communication and employability skills. – Students in the program are eligible to earn industry-recognized core credentials through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). KEEP RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS RUNNING SMOOTHLY APARTMENT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN New maintenance professionals or experienced employees can both use this training to build on their knowledge and skills. Structured around the industry-standard Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) exam, the program includes hands-on, classroom and online components. – 96-hour training covers maintenance and repair of interior and exterior structures, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC and appliances; as well as safety, emergencies, project management and more. – Course accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and designed by the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI). – Students are eligible to take the CAMT exam at the end of the course. ACQUIRE SKILLS FOR A COMFORTABLE CAREER HVAC/REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN The goal of this program is to prepare students for HVAC/R career opportunities by providing them with comprehensive knowledge of basic HVAC and refrigeration processes. The course covers terminology, safety and in-depth experience with the components, tools and instrumentation required to work on mechanical refrigeration systems. – 128-hour training course includes system charging processes; proper usage of vacuum gauges; recovery, recycling and reclamation or refrigerant and related EPA guidelines; calculating superheat and subcooling; pressure testing piping connections; and more. – Students are eligible to take the Universal Certification exam at the end of the course. MAKE FOOD SAFETY TOP PRIORITY SERVSAFE® MANAGER GTCC’s ServSafe® Manager training is designed to help food service industry workers understand all the food safety risks faced in the kitchen and ways to reduce them, allowing restaurant, catering and other food service businesses to keep kitchens, staff and customers safe. – The course covers a range of topics from the basics of hand washing to food-borne pathogens and other more complex topics. – Students are eligible to take the ServSafe® Manager exam at the end of the course. PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS This course is designed to help those who are seeking employment, transitioning back into the workforce, or taking their career in a new direction. As part of GTCC’s Human Resources Development (HRD) program, the Employability Skills course provides training on resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, social media and more. – Employability Skills is one of seven HRD classes available at GTCC to address the current and future needs of a constantly changing workforce. – Fee Waiver Eligibility – All HRD courses are fee-waived for qualifying individuals who are unemployed, “underemployed,” or have received notice of layoff. BRINGING A BACHELOR’S DEGREE WITHIN REACH College Transfer and Co-Admission GTCC’s college transfer and co-admission programs allow students to access opportunities at four-year colleges and universities that line up with their academic and professional goals. Students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree can start their journey at GTCC! Transfer pathways in a variety of majors are available and course credits apply to all 16 UNC System universities. Plus, many private colleges also accept credit from GTCC. Students complete their associate degree and enter the university as juniors, making it very affordable to earn a bachelor’s degree. GTCC also offers two Co-Admission Programs in collaboration with local universities NC A&T and UNC Greensboro in a variety of majors. Qualifying students are admitted to both institutions at the same time, simultaneously enjoy benefits from both schools and save money on tuition making this a very economical option. Students pay lower community college tuition rates in the first two years of participation and then transition to NC A&T or UNCG to complete their junior and senior year. Additionally, students specifically interested in UNC Chapel Hill can apply to the Carolina Student Transfer Excellence Program (C-STEP) program at GTCC.
