I am very thankful even now. After that, Mom and I returned to Gangshan and lived with Dad. From that

However, we are much closer than the ones who do have a blood relationship. Now, I’m nineteen-year-old student who doesn’t really know what to do in the future. I’m trying to find my way now. Hope you guys enjoy my story. Wish you the best Sheila Xu 2007/1/8

Introduction of the Story I think some people will think Secret Love sounds like a soap opera. But, don’t you think life is just like a drama and drama is just like life? Maybe you won’t believe it, but the story which I wrote is a true story. Of course the characters’ names have been changed because I have to protect and keep their secrets. I want to show you when people love someone, they won’t care whether the others have the same sex or not. Because
of common customs, people always seem to only love the opposite sex. It is forbidden to fall in love with a person of the same sex.

CHAPTER ONE Brit started his new school life and was ready to be a senior high school student. He was very nervous but looking forward to his new classmates and new school life. It was a brand new day today. He saw his classmates. Every one was so different and unique. They were not just only different from the classmates from junior high school but also different from each one in class. Brit was very happy going to
4
know them. He wanted to make many friends very much because he was afraid of loneliness. However, he was too shy to be active making friends. Although Brit would like to make friends with his classmates, he still felt he must lose something which was very important. He felt he couldn’t get enough. He didn’t know what he really wanted but he knew these classmates weren’t the special kind of people who he would like to know. The third day of the beginning of this
5
semester, he found a special person, Wat, in class. Wat was very cool. He never talked to others. He seemed difficult to approach. Brit didn’t know why his eyes were always caught by Wat and always paid attention to him. Furthermore, he would like to make friends with Wat. This was the first time Brit won attraction to someone. He didn’t know why and didn’t want to think about these emotions. What he knew was there was a strange feeling that he had never had

before emerging.

CHAPTER TWO Time went by, it was the middle of the semester. Brit had never talked to Wat even once. He was too shy and Wat’s coolness was unapproachable. Brit knew that if he wanted to be friends with Wat, he must catch a chance. Although he knew what he should do, he still kept doing nothing. In Brit and Wat’s class, they changed their seats every two weeks. The way to decide who would sit together was
4
drawing lots. Brit thought he had no courage to talk with Wat, so he hoped to know more about Wat by sitting together for two weeks. Every time when the class leader drew lots, Brit always prayed to God to let them to sit together. However, God seemed to never hear his wishes.

CHAPTER THREE At the end of the first semester, Christmas was coming, Brit finally sat together with Wat. He was very, very, very happy but very, very, very nervous seeing the seats chart on the blackboard. He thought that was a Christmas present from God. It was an amazing grace for him. So unbelievable! He couldn’t believe it was the truth! The night before the day which his class changed seats, Brit was not able to fall asleep.

The first three days, Brit didn’t talk to Wat, and he didn’t even look at Wat’s face. They sat together but were like two strangers. Their first interaction was a “conversation” from the text book. One cold Tuesday afternoon, they were taking an English grammar class. The teacher asked the whole class to practice the conversation that they just finished with their partners. Brit was startled at this requirement. His heart beat was all but out of his chest. He turned his
7
head gradually and saw Wat with vagrant eyes. “Who will start this conversation first?”, Wat asked. Suddenly, the time seemed to stop. Brit felt like he almost couldn’t breathe. He did a few deep breath and said” Alright, I will go first.” These were their first talking.

CHAPTER FOUR During this period of time, Brit was really happy. He was lost in himself with happiness. Every night, he expected the next day to come fast. Every morning, he expected to go to school hurry. These expectations pushed him up because he had a purpose for living. Their relationship was much better than what Brit thought. Wat started to talk to Brit and smiled at him. One day, Wat asked Brit for help. Brit was very surprised. He
9
thought Wat trusted him so he was also a little happy. These changes made Brit feel although he was special to Wat. They were closer to each other. Day after day, Brit discovered that he had a different feeling through Wat. He couldn’t take his eyes away from Wat. He couldn’t stop thinking of him. He didn’t like to see Wat be good with somebody else. He didn’t want to see Wat together with somebody else. He became envious very easily and very often. He knew it
10
wasn’t normal for a MALE to care about someone who was MALE, too. Brit finally understood it was love. This love was a forbidden love. It is not acceptable by society. However, he still couldn’t control himself. Due to this thrill, shock, suspense love, Brit was almost getting mad. He just couldn’t stop loving Wat.

CHAPTER FIVE Happy days always pass so quickly, and these two weeks were over. It was time for Brit and Wat to separate. Brit was depressed because he didn’t want to change seats. He was afraid that Wat and he would be strangers again. After they changed seats, his eyes were still caught by Wat. He always paid a lot of attention on what Wat did, what Wat said, where Wat went, who Wat talked to, and everything about Wat. It seemed as if he
12
was going mad. Now, he was very sure that Wat must be special to him. One day in P.E. class, they had a funny activity. The teacher’s first directive was to ask them to hold hands with the one beside themselves. Brit and Wat they stood together but when everyone started to hold each others’ hands, Wat avoided Brit and shied at once. Brit saw Wat’s avoidance very clearly. He was harmed absolutely and completely. He thought if he behaved too obviously
13
Wat wouldn’t discover that he loved him. Because he didn’t want Wat to hate him, he decided to stay away from him so that he would control his love for Wat.

CHAPTER SIX The last summer of Brit’s senior high school, the season of graduation was coming. Classmates were discussing their future, their universities. Some were worried about their exams. Some were in a hurry to leave every one’s personal information and messages for a class book. Brit was as same as other students. He shared with classmates. He was busy for the class book, too. He also worried about
something. What was he worried about? It was Wat. Brit received a surprising news in April from a classmate who was with Wat for a long time: Wat was going to emigrate to England after graduation. Brit lost his purpose immediately. He suddenly didn’t know what to do next. His heart was bleeding. His heart was crying. His heart was shaking. His heart was broken. He never thought that Wat would be so far away from him. He thought even
16
though they might not go to the same university after graduating, he still could see Wat in the same city and the same country. However, Wat was now gone. Brit couldn’t accept this truth. So, the rest of the last semester, Brit cherished everyday Wat was in school very much. He didn’t waste anytime they hit it off together. Brit regretted that he hadn’t been good friends with Wat. He regretted wasting so much time that they were being
17
together. He should not be so shy. He should not be so passive. He hated his fool. He regretted always avoiding seeing Wat. He hated himself for not being true to his heart. So many regrets would not change anything. So many regrets would not turn the clock back to yesterday. Everything happened past. It was too late. At graduation, Brit left earlier than other classmates. He refused all dates because he wanted to be alone and in a silence place thinking something about
18
Wat. Now, Wat was really gone. His heart was gone with him, too. The weather was sunny, but his heart was cloudy. The weather was hot, but his heart was cold. It was crowed outside, but his heart was empty. Here was a summer breeze kissing his face but there was a storm destroying his heart. As his eyes were covered by the hair which was blowing by the wind, tears were falling down to the ground. Nothing would comfort him.
19
A few minutes later, he dried his tears and stared at the sky. He recalled everything that belonged to Wat and him. Those memories were full of happiness and sadness. There were so many differences after Wat left for England. Happiness was still happiness, but sadness becomes happiness now. Furthermore, Brit and Wat were really strangers now.
