Fabulous Fun-filled FantaSea! There is a word in the Thai language, ‘sanook’, that means fun and it is widely believed that if something is not ‘sanook’ the Thai people will not touch it with a ten foot pole! Little wonder then that the amazing FantaSea complex keeps growing in popularity with both Thai people and international visitors to this beautiful tropical island of Phuket. Designed as the first Thai cultural theme park, FantaSea opened its doors on 20th December, 1998 and is now the longest running permanent show in Asia. This ground breaking enterprise was conceived and created by the prominent and farsighted Thai businessman, Mr. Pin Kewkacha and both he and his talented son and daughter, Kittikorn and Sopida are still closely involved in every aspect of the day-to-day operations. Attention to even the smallest detail is the key to FantaSea’s great success and the whole operation moves like a well oiled machine with only one aim, to ensure that all visitors have a fun-filled experience. The FantaSea park covers around 14,500 square meters of land just outside the popular beach resort of Kamala, 30 minutes from Phuket airport and close to all the main beach resorts of the island. The imposing entrance to the park leads you into ample parking areas and well lit drop points for cars and busses. You immediately sense an air of excitement as the bright lights and theme features come into view and you enter a world of enchantment. You can linger awhile at the main entrance to feed the tumbling rush of large fish that inhabit the lake area and then take a leisurely stroll across the ornate bridge that leads into the main village area. Here you will find everything to delight, educate and amaze! A beautiful shopping village awaits you, with handicraft demonstrations, carnival games, cultural parades and street shows. A stunning Chinese Dragon Dance was in progress on my last visit and

the music and color set the scene for what was to come. A safari adventure walk, complete with some beautiful white tigers, has recently been added and lots of tasty snacks are on offer at the many stalls, as well as a spacious beer garden for the more ‘relaxed’ visitors. A stroll through this vibrant landscape brings you to the amazing area of the Floating village. Ornate Thai golden barges float on the waterways as you cross the bridge to the superb restaurants that form the culinary heart of the park. The Golden Kinnaree buffet restaurant and the Suriyamas Seafood Restaurant welcome you to a sumptuous feast in spacious and comfortable surroundings. FantaSea encourages their guests to purchase a combined ticket that includes both the spectacular theater show and the pre-show dinner and most guests choose this option. There is a choice of Thai and regional fare at the main buffet or a more expensive seafood and western food option and both are well worth trying. Dinner service starts at 5.30 pm and continues until the main theater show starts at 9 pm so the restaurants are never crowded and the multiple service points mean that there is never a queue for food. Just across from the Floating Village is the beautiful Palace of the Elephants Theater which celebrates the ancient architecture of Thailand in all its magnificent glory. It is a most imposing building with large paved terraces and a spacious central square that bustles with elephants! Here you can take the opportunity of riding one of these magnificent beasts and getting a true taste of old Siam! As you cross the bridge to enter the Palace you sense the excitement of what is still to come. I must have seen the show at least ten times over the last 14 years and it just keeps getting better!

As you wend your way through the entry to the main theater you glimpse the photographs of the hundreds of celebrities who have experienced the show before you and you certainly do get caught up in the glamour of it all. The theater is spectacular with 3,000 seats each with an unimpeded view of the action that takes place over a stage frontage of over 60 meters with state-of-the-art sound and light and special effects. With plush seating and comfortable climate control the entire theater complex is also Asia’s largest permanent show facility and a true icon of Thailand’s entertainment industry. The large assembly of elephants (the largest number in the world for any indoor theater show), tigers, goats, chickens and assorted birds are ably joined by the 400 human cast and crew to create 70 minutes of fast-packed action and special effects. The mythical adventure traces the exploits of the young Prince of Kamala, together with his magic elephant Iyara, who is a direct descendant of the ancestral elephant lords who built the kingdom. The Prince sets out to rediscover his true Thai heritage, with all its diverse regional cultures, win the heart of the lady and defeat the half man and half buffalo warriors led by the Àendish Demon Lord. All in a normal day’s work for the energetic young Prince! Music is the main medium of the story and the very little spoken dialogue is in both Thai and English languages, so a real feast of enjoyment for all nationalities. The sound and light effects of the production are truly magical and I am still pondering how they could recreate a tropical storm, complete with torrential rain, on stage. Amazing costumes, great choreography and a ballet sequence that has to be seen to be believed all combine to bring the best of modern theater to the rich cultural heritage of this Land of Smiles.

No visit to Phuket would be complete without experiencing this magical experience. mited Phuket FantaSea Public Company Limited 99 Moo 3 Kamala, Kathu, Phuket 83150 Thailand Tel: +66 (0)76 385111 Email: ticket@phuket-fantasea.com www.phuket-fantasea.com

Getting to know

Sittichai Tanakorncharoen General Manager of SLEEP WITH ME HOTEL design hotel @ patong Patong is one of the country’s main entertainment and shopping areas, with an abundance of restaurants, bars, night clubs, shops and obviously the beach, it makes it the ideal location for almost all walks of life. SLEEP WITH ME HOTEL is a brand new hotel which will be fully operational in Q1 2014. The Guide Phuket Magazine recently had a chance to get to know a little more about GM of the hotel Mr Sittichai, or Khun Bird, and his hotel. Please tell us about your background I’ve had vast experience in the hospitality and retail industries and have gained extensive customer service skills. I stepped into the hotel industry in an HR role to learn about a hotel’s structure, human resources management, and the creation of a quality team who can provide customers with ultimate satisfaction. I have continuously progressed in my career and have always looked for openings. I was lucky enough to work as a secretary for a GM in a hotel and that was a significant opportunity that allowed me to learn and participate at corporate management level within all departments including accounting, admin, public relations and marketing. Now I’ve earned the trust of Khun Theeraphan Choprasertchok, owner of SLEEP WITH ME HOTEL @ Patong, and he has appointed me as General Manager of the hotel. I am now responsible for organizing all sections of the hotel and have played a big part in the design of the hotel’s living spaces and facilities. Ongoing, I am responsible for building the structure of the hotel and its future direction. What is your management style? We need to understand our customer’s behavior, we need to understand what our partners want, we must consider our staff as much as possible, and we need to understand the task of every department so that we all work together effectively. We also need to think and work harder than the salary we receive. This is my work, my job and my passion. www.theguidephuket.com

How did SLEEP WITH ME HOTEL come about? Khun Theeraphan, the owner of our company, has a keen interest in real estate and he started his business with 2 luxury condominium in Kalim, The Baycliff and The Privilege Residences, and also ME Serviced Apartments in Patong. He took part in an auction for long term rental of one of the most valuable pieces of land in Patong, adjacent to Jungceylon, which he won, and that is how he started SLEEP WITH ME, his first hotel project. Please tell us about your hotel SLEEP WITH ME HOTEL is conveniently located in Phuket’s main leisure district, Patong, and provides a modern, inspiring and trendy lifestyle experience with a full range of modern facilities, personal service and international standards of comfort. However, the SLEEP WITH ME HOTEL has its own individual character and will reflect its own local flavours. The hotel features 258 rooms, from superior rooms to suites, all designed for maximum comfort and satisfaction, and each provides guests with advanced in-room technology. Our rooms have been designed with the diverse needs of today’s world travelers in mind. Whether they’re business, leisure, families, groups, or couples, they will find that all the details and amenities, as well as our location within Patong are suited for everyone. What’s your customer target? We focus on a wide variety of markets based on geographic areas with the following principles: Europe, Asia and Australia are our primary target, the Middle East, North and South America and also Africa are our secondary market. Product divisions are divided into 3 main customer groups, customers booking through electronic systems (Internet), through dealers (Travel Agents) and walk-in bookings. Great Cuisʖnɏ , Jazz and Views at

Vijitt’s Friendly Sunday Lunch

Ah….another lazy Sunday in Phuket with at last a little time just to relax and indulge in some great cuisine and live jazz overlooking one of the island’s most sensational vistas, while the little ones are taken care of in the Kids’ Club. That’s the magic formula which has made the delightful Vijitt Resort’s Family Sunday Lunch so well-loved and successful. You descend through Vijitt’s extensive verdant grounds beside cascading, lily-filled pools and waterfalls, then past their huge beach-side swimming pool and enter the breezy open sided sala, or enclosed air-conditioned section of their Savoury Restaurant. Somehow you immediately start to feel supremely relaxed and happy. You’re greeted by smiling staff who lead you to your table commanding the most stunning views across Chalong Bay with its dreaming offshore islands and the more distant karsts of Phang Nga Bay etched onto the horizon. You savor the delicious aromas of the cornucopia of foods on offer, tune into the cool live jazz and let the children loose to explore the huge grounds, or go swimming, or hit the Kids’ Club. Yes indeed you think…. life doesn’t get much better than this! Now, where to start on the sumptuous array of food choices? How about fresh sushi and sashimi? Or maybe a platter of oysters, shellfish, prawns and lobster accompanied by selections from the abundant salads? Oh, but wait! There are also the various cooking stations where the chefs will conjure up foie gras, or a selection of fish, meats and poultry prepared to your own specifications. Oh, and don’t forget the Thai food, or the pastas and pizzas and of course you simply MUST leave space for a sampling of the desserts, homemade ice cream, fruits and then a selection of cheese and biscuits! AND don’t forget the chocolate fountain!!

Hmmm…why can’t it be Sunday seven days a week?

OK, this is getting complicated you think and needs some thoughtful planning. I know, let’s just start with a crisp glass of cold white wine and saunter around taking it all in so you can formulate your “lunching strategy”…..and so the perfect Sunday lunch begins to unfold!!

Sunday Lunch is B1,099 per person with free soft drinks or B1,399 per person with a bottle of white or red wine per couple, or B3,099 per person with a bottle of bubbly per couple. The Rawai-Nai Harn Business Association’s card gets you a 15% discount and kiddies are half price and ankle biters of four and under are free!

The Vijitt’s Sunday Lunch Buffet is from 12-3pm, but quite Frankly, with so much choice and with such a seductively laid-back atmosphere, many guests take advantage of the offer to linger longer and swim in the pool, or just continue to relax and enjoy the wonderful grounds until the 6pm Happy Hour kicks in!

The luxuriously designed and furnished Diamond Beach Club commands the most spectacular location, rightonthe-sands overlooking the dancing diamondiferous waters and fabulous pyrotechnical sun sets of Surin Beach and the Andaman Sea. This unbeatable location and setting has established Diamond Beach Club as preeminent among this increasingly crowded scene. But in its one year of existence, Diamond has gone much further in leaving the rest of the burgeoning beach clubs in its wake by putting great emphasis on “affordability” and “good value” as two of its mainstays. This is highly reassuring for its guests, as the rush to the Beach Club idization of Phuket has lead to much overblown pricing and quite frankly blatant price gouging of customers in other venues.

The affordable luxury of Diamond Beach Club is found in both its outdoor and indoor areas for dining, drinking, dancing, relaxing and indulgent sun tanning, making it most certainly an all-weather and all-season environment. The indoor restaurant and bar includes a wine tasting/ dining room, walk-in wine cellar and a fresh roasted coffee bar. The large outdoor bar and dining area offer their gorgeous sunset views of the crystal clear Andaman waters and glorious sun sets and it was here that we started our own culinary adventure with a couple of superb cocktails.

Exploring

your Comfort Zone

Whilst on holiday in Phuket it would be a crime not to have a massage or health treatment. Phuket is justly famed for its abundance and variety. So don’t be tempted to just head down to the nearest salon and ask for a ‘head, back and shoulders’ or a straightforward foot massage. There are many more exciting and adventurous treatments out there and by deliberately trying something new you might find the perfect health treatment for you. Hot Stone Massage The kindest and most soothing of remedies; smooth, polished basalt and marble stones are heated in water, soaked in warm oils and placed on key acupressure points on your body, deeply penetrating tight muscles and softening tissue through the heat and weight of the stones. Many spas on the island offer hot stone massage, but a few go a step further and provide something called the ‘fire and ice’ massage. This uses alternating heated black basalt stones with iced white marble stones.

www.theguidephuket.com

The warm black stones expand the blood vessels, pushing blood and waste through the body while the cool white stones cause the blood vessels to contract, stimulating the nervous system. Historically health benefits have long been ascribed to shocking the body with very hot and extremely cold temperatures and this massage draws on those ideas, aiming to create a balance allowing stress to be released from the body. Fish Reflexology This is a relatively new type of massage on Phuket, and has come from Singapore and Malaysia where it is increasingly popular. This really isn’t for the faint-hearted as you are placed on a long bench over a rectangular pond and asked

Health & Beauty

43

to place your feet in the water. As soon as you do lots of little fish come up and start nibbling your pinkies. They will take away your crusty dead skin and leave your feet feeling as smooth as a baby’s bottom. However, while this is happening people do tend to have quite extreme reactions and the most common is absolute hysterics as the feeling of lots of little mouths all over your feet is a very ticklish one. These fish don’t have teeth so you are not about to be chewed up and spat out by piranhas. However apparently you do need to watch out for fraud salons where the fish might actually have teeth. This adds a little extra danger and excitement to the choices. Once you have finished with the fish you usually have a short, normal foot reflexology massage, from a human, which is a relaxing way to recover from the experience. Shirodhara Part of the Ayurveda holistic system of natural medicine, this therapy involves a stream of warm medicated oil - or coconut oil - being poured continuously onto your forehead. This may sound suspiciously like water torture, but is actually rather pleasurable and is supposed to be very good for sinus congestion, insomnia and even clarity of mind. Colonic irrigation There isn’t much to say about this technique that you don’t already know. People do seem to fall into two camps regarding colonics; those who love the idea of a truckload of water and coffee swooshed around their insides, and those who would rather die. You probably already know which camp you are in but if you are wavering at all, then do consider not only the health benefits – weight loss, clearer skin and bright eyes just for starters – but the fabulous anecdotes to take home regarding that little tin soldier you lost as a five year old or that scrabble tile that ruined every game thereafter making a triumphant return from your nether regions. Although Phuket is full of the usual health treatments and massages, it is also home to some weird and wonderful moments. Try something different. Even if you find that small fish chewing steadily on your feet doesn’t rock your world, it will make for an unforgettable holiday experience.

Massage Remedy Massage is much more than simply the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. It is a touch. It is a healing art. It produces therapeutic effects on the systems of the body, the mind and the soul. “Crown of Sukko” Thai Head Massage (60 minutes) 1,300 THB ++/person The head, neck and shoulders are classic places in which physical and emotional stresses are held. “Crown of Sukko” is a fantastic way of alleviating and preventing the build-up of stress and strains. It is highly recommended for guests with stress and exhaustion caused by overwork, travel or spending too much time on the computer. The massage is given without oils and guests are advised to wear comfortable clothing. It is performed slowly in gentle and rhythmic movements, applying appropriate pressure on points and muscles of the head, neck, shoulder, upper back and arms. After the session, serious stress points in those areas are addressed. The circulation to the brain, scalp, face, neck and shoulders are improved. The mind and body is allowed to switch off and recharge. Alertness is encouraged, concentration is improved, and creativity and new ideas flow much more easily. A feeling of vitality is the result. Christmas in Phuket

Christmas is barreling down upon us like a Phuket pick-up truck and the local geese are getting nervous. Or they would be if they lived in cooler climes, but out here in the tropics the geese tend to be spared at Christmas time, as we’re more likely to consume fresh Andaman seafood on the beach washed down with a cool crisp bottle of Prosecco. Ahhhh, Christmas in Phuket….you can’t beat it! The weather is fabulous, the beaches are glorious, the sea is eminently swim-able and there’s an abundance of superb parties, dinners and events to choose from offering wonderful cuisine, cool evening cocktails, lashing of bubbly, great music and fun, fun, fun. Phuket is without doubt of the most fabulous places on Earth in which to spend Christmas and New Year and of course hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers totally agree as they fly into Phuket and the Andaman in droves from all over the world at this time of year to indulge in the hedonistic pleasures and warm Thai hospitality that makes the Pearl of the Andaman justly famous. Starting with the huge annual King’s Cup sailing regatta based around Kata Beach at the start of December, this time of year offers up an abundance of events, parties and social activities that can keep the active party-animal and socialite fully engaged right through until March. The King’s Cup offers nightly beach parties as well as hugely exciting daily

sailing races with over one hundred boats and thousands of attendees letting the collective hair down. That sets the marker for a huge array of subsequent beach bound events such as the Super Yacht Invitational, being held this year at the newly opened Kata Rocks luxury development, as well as all the Christmas and New Year dinners and parties that most of the big resorts and hotels offer in abundance. In fact, there’s just so much to choose from that a little help doesn’t go amiss, so we have included in The Guide Phuket a handy guide to many of the very best Christmas and New Year parties and events that are going on this year. So, jump into your beach wear, put a sprig of Mistletoe behind you ear, grab a bottle of bubbly and head out into one of the biggest Christmas parties on Earth.

Peter Stone Peter Stone Jewelry, an American owned Thailand company established in Bangkok in 1987, is defined within a Collection of more than 39 niche jewelry lines from Designer Jewelry to Wildlife Animal collections to our Venus and Mars collection.

Peter Stone was created by a desire to travel and explore the gem mines of the world, and Thailand being the one of the largest gem-cutting centers in the world among it’s other great assets, I began my business of jewelry design and creation here. The initial demand for the jewelry lines came mainly from the places I enjoyed traveling to: mostly seaside resorts such as Key West, Ocean City and Cape Cod in the USA then to coastal Oregon and California a few years later. I traveled on to Australia’s Gold Coast and North Coast as well as Sydney and Perth. I was inspired by everyplace I experienced and thus designed more jewelry for each of these markets. The Peter Stone Jewelry lines continually grew over the years. $IWHU IHHOLQJ , KDG VXIÀFLHQWO\ EXLOW WKH FRPSDQ\ LQ WKHVH DUHDV I moved on to the UK and Europe, all the while maintaining a home in Thailand. Peter Stone jewelry UK was established in Bridport, England in 2007, where I moved, family and all! The lines were well received there as they continue to be to date. Again I stayed long enough to expand the brand of Peter Stone all the while enjoying the British hospitality and experiencing the UK and Europe through the many jewelry trade shows there. All allowing additional travel experiences to many new and interesting places. Today Peter Stone employs over 90 people at our jewelry manufacturing location in Bangkok. Many of the same staff and employees started back in 1993‌.. 20 years a team! We support one another in the right ways. Our Team in Bangkok, the hands that make the exquisite Peter Stone Jewelry creations are the people that get the credit for such beautiful designs. With years of dedication to one another we have created a team second to none. We create custom designs just as your own personal jeweler would. We meticulously follow every design process, step by step, involving the client in each process to assure their personal jewelry creation is precisely as their desire. Andaman

GETTING TO KNOW the Southern Andaman Region of Krabi, Phi Phi and Koh Lanta

as it could actually be classified as a mud flat, especially during low tide. The main attraction for visitors to Railey Beach is the adrenaline pumping activity of cliff climbing. The limestone cliffs on the huge headland between East of Railey Beach and Phra Nang cave, as well as other nearby islands provide world-class rock climbing facilities against a stunning backdrop of the sea with approximately 700 routes of mid to high difficult rating. Pra Nang Beach Connected to Railay by a small path, Phra Nang is on the outermost headland, backed by limestone cliffs soaring above the beach. At the bottom of the cliff lies the Princess Cave or Tham Phra Nang Nok where local fishermen leave offerings for good fortune. Three hours drive south from Phuket through stunning limestone cliffs and dense forest brings you to the southern playground of the Krabi region of the Andaman overlooking Phang Nga Bay with its many scattered islands, hidden bays and beaches. Throw away your watch and bask in nature’s beauty or snorkel, dive, rock climb, fish, kayak, hike, sail, party, spa or wine and dine to your heart’s content – this region has it all. Ao Nang Beach Just 18 km from Krabi Town is beautiful Ao Nang with its 83 scattered islands. Each island is only a short distance from the next and so during low tide you can wade to a neighboring island, many with sandy beaches and crystal clear water and majestic limestone cliffs rising straight from the clear waters of the sea. Ao Nang has several famous beaches including East Rai Le, West Rai Le and Phra Nang cave which stretches to the foot of a prominent limestone range. Noppharat Thara Beach Just 20 km west of Krabi and three miles long, this beach is lined with majestic Casuarina trees and is in fact part of Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Marine Park and is the location of the Park headquarters. As with Ao Nang, it’s possible to reach other islands in the bay on foot during low tides. Railay Beach This beach is generally divided into two sections, east and west. West Railey provides visitors with peace and quiet as it is a broad sandy beach with fewer facilities than Ao Nang. East Railey which lies across the peninsula from West Railey is different from other beaches in the area

www.theguidephuket.com

Klong Muang Beach/Tubkaak Krabi’s latest beach destination, Muang Klong boasts both 5-star and boutique hotels like the Sheraton Krabi Resort, the Nakamanda and the Tubkaak Resort and offers powderwhite sand and safe swimming. The Lanta Island Group About 53 islands are included in this group situated at the southern limit of Krabi Province. Koh Lanta Yai is the largest and is both a traveler’s and up-market vacationer’s paradise and is as yet relatively undeveloped. You can get to Lanta on the regular ferry from Jao Fah Pier in Krabi Town. The prime attractions are its long beaches, clear water, laid back atmosphere and scuda diver’s paradise where most of the nicest beaches and tourist attractions are located. The Phi Phi Islands Known for phenomenal natural beauty, particularly the famous twin bays with their the curving beaches upon which lies the largest town. Phi Phi islands are some of the most beautiful in the world with superb scenery, silvery sand beaches and Emerald green seas with coral reefs and an abundance of marine life. Hardly two hours journey by boat from Ao Nang, the twin islands Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh provide excellent accommodation options and are known as major “party islands.” Poda Islands Situated south of Ao Nang, 8 Kilometers offshore, Koh Poda or Poda Group Islands are fringed by clear waters and offer white sandy beaches, as well as, pristine coral reefs. These islands are not affected so much by the monsoon therefore are year-round attractions and an excellent place for fishing. Poda island with white sand beaches and clear turquoise seawater abounded with schools of colorful fish.

HIGHLIGHT ATTRACTIONS.. Emerald Pool Emerald Pool or Sra Morakot in Thai is located at Klong Thom District. This hot spring originates from a warm stream in the lowland forest. The intensity of the pool’s turquoise colored water varies according to the light and time of the day so a good time to visit is at dawn or early morning.

Bird Watching A trip to Krabi can be a very rewarding visit for any bird lovers. With easily accessible mangroves and low lying forests, there are many places to spot rare birds. Two excellent locations are Khao Kanat Nam, close to Krabi Town, and Khao No Chuchi Forest Preserve.

Tiger Cave Temple Tiger Cave Temple or Wat Tham Sua in Thai is located about 3 kilometers from Krabi town. The inside of this cave features tiger prints captured in stone and is in the middle of an abundant forest with gigantic ancient trees. This place is remarkable archaeologically as many artifacts have been found on the premises including tools, pottery and the mold for the Buddha’s footprint.

Partying Phi Phi is known worldwide as “Party Island central” and Koh Lanta is not far behind. Krabi Town is more sedate, but there are plenty of good bars and a live music scene to enjoy.

HIGHLIGHTS & ACTIVITIES... Rock Climbing Apart from marine sports, Krabi is also an ideal place for rock climbing. Lines of sheer limestone cliffs along Tham Phranang and Rai Le Beaches have challenged thousands of climbers from all over the world every year. The levels of difficulty of the various routes vary, so Whether you’re a professional or just an aspiring adrenalin junkie, the craggy karsts of Krabi offer a huge array of bolted mounts. Diving Both scuba and snorkeling are widely available in warm, coral and fish infested waters with full PADI accreditation courses and live-aboard adventures. Sightseeing by Canoe or Kayak Many companies offer sea canoeing and kayaking adventures around Phang Nga Bay and into the many coves, caves and islets dotting the otherworldly shores around Krabi, Phi Phi and Koh Lanta. Fishing Abundant sea and even freshwater fishing is available all over this region, from squid boating, to line fishing in Phang Nga Bay, to big game adventures off the Continental Shelf drop-off. Don’t let that big one get away!

Shopping Outlet Village Krabi is located on Phetchakasem Road. It is on the way from the city to the local airport and features a tall lighthouse near the entrance and 6,000 sqm of retail space. Throughout the year, many Thai and foreign travelers visit this outlet which offers over 100 selected leading brands for all ages. Clothing discounted up to 70% is available here. It is open daily from 11:00 a.m. - 9.00 p.m. Enjoying the Local Seafood Have a seafood feast and savor the fresh day’s catch in any number of a fun, laidback, or fine-dining restaurants all over this region.

GETTING THERE By road from Phuket Take a minibus or frequent local bus from Phuket Town’s bus terminal with information regarding timetables, taxi or mini-van shuttle services readily available at hotels, travel agent or Phuket Airport. Renting a car is also a good option and the roads are wide, modern and relatively quiet. To Krabi and Phi Phi by boat It is possible to charter a speedboat or similar transportation to Krabi or Koh Phi Phi, or there are frequent daily ferries operating between Phuket and Phi Phi Island and then on to Krabi, or via the Koh Yao Islands, each taking about two hours.
