Based in Phuket, the newest addition to Asia Marine’s fleet of Luxury Charter Yacht is S/Y Letizia, a stunning Camper & Nicholsons 91ft sailing yacht based in Phuket and chartering in the Andaman Sea. This stylish 27.7m Ketch features all accommodation for 7 persons and the services and leisure equipment of a Luxury Superyacht. The Captain Bert is a passionate sailor with several voyages throughout the India Ocean and the Andaman Sea; with his multi-lingual international crew of 4, he will introduce his guests to the incomparable sailing performance of this gorgeous charter yacht. S/Y Letizia has appointed Asia Marine as its exclusive Central Agent. Arguably the finest Sparkman and Stephens designed yacht from the early 1990s, this aluminium world cruising ketch was launched in 1991 by Camper & Nicholsons with interior styling by Andrew Winch. Previously named S/Y Sceptre, she has been operating successful charter business for several years in the Mediterranean Sea and the Caribbean. Her success came from the incomparable silhouette and sailing performance of Sparkman & Stephens designs combined with a generous space onboard. S/Y Letizia can accommodate 7 guests in 3 cabins. The Master cabin has a king size bed, shower and toilet. One Guest cabin has a double bed, a pullman, shower and toilet. A second Guest cabin has a twin bed, shower and toilet. Letizia is fully air conditioned through out. The crew has a separate companionway, heads and shower.

The interior is of traditional style with comfortable leisure arm chairs, plus a true pub style bar opening to the decorated galley. Obviously this yacht was built in UK! The flush deck offers 2 seating areas: a central guest cockpit and the stern navigation cockpit. Letizia is equipped for snorkelling, fishing, kayaking, BBQ’s, donut-rings, and has a five meter tender with a 60 HP outboard engine. There is even a DVD library aboard with stereo sound system and international cuisine with Asian flair. Diving is possible with a dive master. With a German Yacht Sailing Master Captain Bernd Gundel has been sailing for over 40 years. A sportsman by passion, Bernd was a Mechanical Engineer in a previous career, and a Professional rally and racing car driver. He started his private yacht charter business in the 80s by acquiring a 60ft ketch and then a traditional 115ft gaff schooner that he operated as owner/skipper in the Red Sea for dive charters. In the late 90s he fell in love with Sylvia a 135 ft Camper and Nicholsons classical ketch built in 1925. Captain Bernd sailed for over 15 years on Sylvia crossing both the north and south India Ocean and South China Sea. A several time visitor to Phuket Bernd decided to retire here but could not resist the offer to go back to sea to take over the refit and operation of Letizia acquired by the owner of Sylvia. Bernd offers years of experience of sailing in traditional sailing yachts and has millions of stories to share. Registered in Thailand Letizia offers crewed charter cruises from Phuket to Malaysia, Myanmar or the Andaman Sea. The rates start from 2,900 Euro/day all-inclusive in Summer (May-Nov). It’s definitely a case of “Catch me if you can” as far as the later arrivistes onto Phuket’s Beachclub scene are concerned and Catch shows no signs of relinquishing their leadership. Catch’s continued dominance certainly stems in part from superb food arrayed at a selection of browsing stations, which allow guests to take their time and plan a long, lazy evening of dining. From sushi and sashimi, through seafood, fresh oysters, crab, lobster, fish, on to copious salads, pastas and pizzas, across to the slowly-turning whole roasting lamb, onwards to hearty cooked meats and finally into the home straight of a cornucopia of desserts, Italian ice-cream and fine cheeses, it’s best to bring a well-planned strategy and a hearty appetite to do justice to this abundance of gustatory riches. Equally a great location is part of Catch’s success and their capacious layout hard by the sands of Surin Beach is second to none. But in addition to these more obvious qualities defining Catch’s clear leadership, there’s also a certain almost magical ingredient that raises them above your common or garden tropical island beachclub into the pantheon of chic. Certainly the staff is beautiful, efficient and friendly. Certainly there are gorgeously slim tanned girls getting their spiked heels stuck in the cracks in the timber decking around the outdoor bar, while their well-heeled male escorts look on in stunned admiration. Certainly there are cool sounds and warm fires enlivening the night that keep you lingering long by the welcoming outdoor bar. Maybe we should just call that final undefined something “The Magic of Catch” and leave it at that! Catch Beach Club Surin Beach Road, Cherng Talay, Phuket 83110, Thailand

A Heavenly Trip to Let’s Relax Day Spa
Relaxing the mind and revitalizing the body is what almost everyone is seeking nowadays, to help cope with a busy lifestyle and a stressful living…..and I must admit I’m one of those people who love to let loose and Ànd time to relax and enjoy the Àne pleasure of pampering myself. When I was introduced to the Let’s Relax Day Spa, located in one of Patong’s hectic streets, the moment I entered, I felt as though I was experiencing a totally different world. Let’s Relax is beautifully decorated with plants and a lovely fountain, while the scents of aromatic oils waft through the air, and a refreshing cup of a Pandanus-based drink is served to you as a welcome. Let’s Relax Day Spa was established seven years ago in Chiang Mai and as they’re committed to providing excellent services all over the country, they have now expanded to a total of seven branches located throughout Thailand, in Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Bangkok and Phuket. Let’s Relax offers many kinds of treatment including Foot and Hand reÁexology, Thai Herbal Massage, Body scrub and Body wrap, Aromatherapy oil massage and Facial relaxation.
During my own visit I was introduced to their aromatic hot stone massage which I had never experienced before and in addition, given a forty minute foot massage as I had told them my legs were feeling quite stiff. After the welcome drink, I then chose the massage oil that I wanted, which was called “Relaxing” from their selection that included Lavender, Coconut, Siamese blend, Lemongrass, Sweet bloom and Green tea.

My therapist, P’Kai Àrst gave me a lovely foot bath, then led me to my private treatment room which, as it had two treatment beds, would have perfectly suited a couple. Sitting in a comfy chair and having my feet gently massaged, I found myself nodding off to sleep as I was so relaxed. When the foot massage Ànished, I was feeling as though I was walking on air and my feet and legs felt so light, it was almost like I was Áoating. DeÀnitely it was one of the best foot massages I’ve had in a long time. My therapist was then ready to begin my next treatment which was the hot stones massage. I moved from the most comfy chair onto the treatment bed and this treatment lasted for 90 minutes. All the stones used are thoroughly cleaned with anti-bacterial soap before and after the treatment to ensure cleanliness and they are heated for about 20 minutes before the treatment. When my therapist placed the hot stones on my back they were just the right temperature as she combined regular oil massage with the hot stone massage. Her stroke was very Àrm, continuous and smooth and her use of pressure point techniques was consistent. I felt really grounded and deeply relaxed and I really did feel the difference in my relaxed muscles. This was my Àrst experience of hot stone massage and it deÀnitely won’t be my last.

Preventing dehydration
on a hot day! On many days in Phuket it seems like the only option for staying cool is to stay indoors in front of the air conditioner. However there are many people that love getting out and enjoying the sun and just relaxing at the beach. But in extremely hot weather it is easy for the body to lose Áuids and becomes dehydrated. If dehydration is not treated, it can be deadly. Luckily, dehydration is easily prevented. •
Try to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water to keep your body hydrated. If you are exercising or participating in a sport it is advised to drink water as well as a sports drink that replaces the lost minerals and salt in your body. Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink. Parents should be sure young children get sufÀcient Áuids. If you are on a special Áuid restricted diet or if you take diuretics, ask your physician about Áuid intake during a hot day.
•
Avoid sodas, coffee or alcoholic beverages on a hot day because they will not keep your body hydrated as these beverages have ingredients that help to dehydrate you. But If you are drinking these types of beverages, be sure to alternate with water to hydrate your body.
•
Avoid the sun in the middle of the day, especially during 12am. - 3pm.
•
Exercise in the morning or early evening when it is cooler.
•
Wear a hat to shade your head and wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-weight clothing that allows your body to stay cool.
•
Use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) greater than 20 to prevent burning - a sunburn prevents your body from cooling down.
•
Double Check with your Doctor or health care provider about any medicine or drugs you are taking. Certain medications — such as tranquilizers and anti-depressants — can increase the risk of heat-related illness.
Treat Dehydration - If you or someone near you is showing symptoms of dehydration it is advised to go to a shady, cool place and begin slowly drinking cool, not cold, water. Cool down with a cold washcloth to the neck or a cool shower or bath. If there is no sign of the symptoms decreasing, seek medical attention immediately.

The Original New Year
Phuket celebrates the original Thai New Year with much of the same elan as the rest of the country. Traditionally, there was only one ‘New Year’ in Thailand. Songkran, the start of the Buddhist year, is still celebrated between the 13th - 15th April, at the height of the hot season. Translated literally as “the passing of”, Songkran marks the beginning of the solar calendar, when the sun passes from the sign of Taurus into Aries. In the rural community - and until recently Thailand was almost entirely an agricultural society - this has been a perfect time to take a break from the business of earning a living. The rice harvest is in, and replanting has to await the coming of the rains. For centuries, this has presented an opportunity for young men and women to meet socially, turning the lull in the seasonal cycle of labour to matters of courtship. It is a time of joy, and Thais have long marked the occasion by making merit - by offering food to monks and by releasing caged birds, turtles, and Àsh. The latter custom had its origins where villagers would collect Àsh stranded in the pools left as the ponds and canals dried up in the searing heat, saving them till Songkran for release into the river. Not only was this a
means of making merit, it served as an effective conservationist programme. You still see vendors offering these creatures for release in many parts of Bangkok as well as in rural areas, pyramids of tiny wooden cages Àlled with twittering birds, metal tanks swimming with turtles, eels, and Àsh. Water is a key element in the festival. Buddha images, both public and private, are washed with lustral water, while the whole house is given an especially thorough cleaning. The idea seems to be to start the New Year fresh and clean both in body and spirit.
The idea seems to be to start the New Year fresh and clean both in body and spirit. Most noticeable to the casual visitor are the water Àghts. Thais and foreigners alike spend the days dousing each other (and any unlucky bystanders) with water - a Àne and refreshing experience, given the prevailing weather. The custom of throwing water is probably in part only an exuberant spillover of the tradition of pouring lustral water over the hands of monks and respected elders. More basically, however, the return of water to the parched soil is an expression of hope and anticipation, an invitation to the cooling, life-giving rainy season to come. This practice migrated long ago to Thailand from India by way of Burma. It thus came Àrst to Chiang Mai, where it is still practiced with special enthusiasm. In those early days, there was little communication, no easy links between Chiang Mai and Bangkok, and the water-throwing took a long time to reach the capital. When it did, though, it was embraced with such abandon that the police ofÀcially had to ban it as a trafÀc hazard. The prohibition has never really taken hold and today if you ride a Bangkok bus during Songkran you must still be prepared for a drenching. Along the streets you Ànd gleeful knots of people heaving buckets of water at any passing vehicle. If you’re driving, keep your windows closed. If you’re on foot you may get ambushed by a careening tuk-tuk jammed full of young revellers armed with pails of water. It’s all in the spirit of good fellowship and people are pleased to receive as good as they give out. Have fun!

Andaman
daman the Southern An
Region of
a t n a L h o K d n a i Krabi, Phi Ph
Three hours drive south from Phuket through stunning limestone cliƨs and dense forest brings you to the southern playground of the Krabi region of the Andaman overlooking Phang Nga Bay with its many scattered islands, hidden bays and beaches. Throw away your watch and bask in nature's beauty or snorkel, dive, rock climb, Ʃsh, kayak, hike, sail, party, spa or wine and dine to your heart’s content – this region has it all.
Ao Nang Beach Just 18 km from Krabi Town is beautiful Ao Nang with its 83 scattered islands. Each island is only a short distance from the next and so during low tide you can wade to a neighboring island, many with sandy beaches and crystal clear water and the majestic limestone cliffs rising straight from the clear waters of the sea and the long beaches are great attraction. Ao Nang has several famous beaches with include East Rai Le, West Rai Le and Phra Nang cave which stretches to the foot of a prominent limestone range. Noppharat Thara Beach Just 20 km west of Krabi and three miles long, this beach is lined with majestic Casuarina trees and is in fact part of Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Marine Park and is the location of the Park headquarters. As with Ao Nang, it’s possible to reach other islands in the bay on foot during low tides.
Railay Beach This beach is generally divided into two sections, east and west. West Railey provides visitors with peace and quiet as it is a broad sandy beach with fewer facilities than Ao Nang. East Railey which lies across the peninsula from West Railey is different from other beaches in the area as it could actually be classiÀed as a mud Áat, especially during low tide. The main attraction for visitors to Railey Beach is the adrenaline pumping activity of cliff climbing. The limestone cliffs on the huge headland between East of Railey Beach and Phra Nang cave, as well as other nearby islands provide world-class rock climbing facilities against a stunning backdrop of the sea with approximately 700 spot routes of mid to high difÀcult rating. Pra Nang Beach Connected to Railay by a small path, Phra Nang is on the outermost headland, backed by limestone cliffs
soaring above the beach. At the bottom of the cliff lies the Princess Cave or Tham Phra Nang Nok where local Àshermen leave offerings for good fortune. Klong Muang Beach/Tubkaak Krabi's latest beach destination, Muang Klong boasts both 5-star and boutique hotels like the Sheraton Krabi Resort, the Nakamanda and the Tubkaak Resort and offers powderwhite sand and safe swimming. The Lanta Island Group About 53 islands are included in this group situated at the southern limit of Krabi Province. Koh Lanta Yai is the largest and is both a traveler’s and up-market vacationer’s paradise and is as yet relatively undeveloped. You can get to Lanta on the regular ferry from Jao Fah Pier in Krabi Town. The prime attractions are its long beaches, clear water, laid back atmosphere and scuda diver’s paradise where most of the nicest beaches and tourist attractions are located. Tropically closed during the monsoon season from May through October. The Phi Phi Islands It is known as the phenomenal natural beauty, particularly the famous twin bays with curving 2 beaches to shape a strand of Áat land lies the largest town on the island. Phi Phi islands are some of the most beautiful in the world with superb scenery, silvery sand beaches and Emerald green seas with coral reefs and an abundance of marine life. Hardly two hours journey by boat from Ao Nang, the twin islands Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh provide excellent accommodation options and are known as major “party islands.” Poda Islands Situated south of Ao Nang, 8 Kilometers offshore, Koh Poda or Poda Group Island is fringed by clear waters and offers white sandy beaches, as well as, pristine coral reefs. This islands are not affected so much by the monsoon therefore it is a year-round attraction and an excellent place for Àshing.
