Getting to know: Mike Hahn Last month, we sat down with Mike Hahn, the founder of the recently-inaugurated adtech company, ReverseAds, to learn more about their business and how Phuket is believed to become the next tech sector in South-East Asia, similar to Singapore, Bangalore, and Silicon Valley.

EDITORIAL It’s been officially six months that Thailand has decided to shut down its airports in order to curb the spread of the Covid-19. Six months, or 180 days, 4,320 hours, 259,200 minutes, or 15.5 million seconds without the tourists we used to take for granted. The current economic outlook for the country is dire at best, and our only hope remains in the hands of scientists and governments around the world. I have no doubt the situation will improve; it just needs to improve a little bit faster. - Kamin

The resort offers four swimming pools, some of which are reserved to specific room categories, spread across the entire resort. We specially enjoyed the Coconut pool for its tranquil and serein atmosphere.

The brand Mövenpick in Thailand is often associated with delicious chocolates and perfectly grounded coffee beans, but the brand is first and foremost a leading player in the hospitality industry, with hotels and resorts available all around the globe.

The Plunge Pool Villa comes with 68 sqm. of living space. A spacious, sumptuously appointed bathroom and bedroom features sliding windows that open onto an expansive private terrace with a comfortable plunge pool, perfect for a quick dip after a day at the beach.

On the food front, you can trust Mövenpick’s long experience in delivering sensational cuisine; no less than five restaurants await at the resort, from the traditional all-day dining mixing Asian and Western dishes, to their specialty restaurants offering Thai and Indian delicacies at OrientAsia, and succulent wood-fired pizzas at MINT. In addition, you can enjoy a complimentary chocolate buffet every day during their Chocolate Hour! After a delightful meal, what could be better than a massage at The Spa, which is located on the path leading to the beach,

Phuket is home to a few Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, one of them being set on a 52-rai land right across the stunning Karon Beach, and the subject of a recent visit from The Guide Phuket ahead of their reopening on October 1, 2020. With more than ten different room categories, including the highly soughtafter villas and modern residences, you will be spoilt for choice! We ended up checking in one of their Plunge Pool Villas that are directly located within the luxurious vegetation design by renowned landscape artist, Bill Bensley. right before Cafe Studio. The quality of the treatments and pampering received was way beyond our expectations, as was the large spread of pastries and other gourmet items we enjoyed during breakfast. Families will be in heaven as the kids can play all day at the resort’s kids club, The Play Zone, which offers tons of activities to keep them entertained. Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket always had a special place in our heart, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for such a stunning property in Phuket. Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket is located on 509 Patak Road, in Karon. The resort can be accessed from the main road and the beach road. LIFE IS A BEACH With more than 30 beaches to choose from, the island of Phuket stands for its nickname, which is the Pearl of Andaman. Whether you seek to experience the tranquillity of Mai Khao Beach or prefer to mingle among the crowd on Patong Beach, our handy guide will help you find the perfect spot to get the suntan you’ve been dreaming of.

OUR TOP PICKS

Every month, our team selects for you the top 3 beaches you should visit while staying in Phuket. All of them have their pros and cons, so we try to provide a good mix between the popular ones and the less crowded ones. Ao Sane Beach: Ao Sane Beach is a small, almost hidden bay, located north of Nai Harn Beach. To access this beach, you need to drive through the grounds of The Nai Harn Phuket beach resort. Ao Sane is a small, rocky beach that is excellent for snorkeling. There’s a small on-site restaurant to grab a bite to eat at when you tire from splashing in the waves. Patong Beach: The beating heart of Phuket’s nightlife, Patong Beach is the most famous beach on the island and the center of entertainment, restaurants, shopping and hotels. The beach itself has soft sand and warm clear water. Behind the beach you’ll find the hustle and bustle of Phuket’s tourism business, which features hotels, restaurants, bars, street bazaars and shops crammed into a colorful, lively mix that showcases a vibrant Thai tourist beach town. Nai Yang Beach: Nai Yang is a charming beach a few minutes south of Phuket International Airport. The northern end of the beach is part of Sirinath National Park, which protects the beach from any further developments. The atmosphere here is laid-back, and the beach is excellent for families. If you are looking to eat fresh seafood right on the beach, Nai Yang is definitely the right spot to visit in Phuket!

WHAT TO DO WHEN A JELLYFISH STINGS YOU? Let’s face it: this is certainly something you’d prefer to avoid when enjoying a day at the beach, but the Andaman Sea contains its fair share of the translucent animal. Below is a quick recap on the symptoms one can suffer from a sting and the best way to treat someone suffering from it. Remember that you should always call for a lifeguard to assist you should you be in pain after getting out of the water.

HOW TO USE YOGA TO SLEEP BETTER DURING THE PANDEMIC Whether due to illness, altered work schedules, homeschooling, or social distancing, COVID-19 has impacted us all personally. Stress levels are high, and the resulting anxiety makes it much harder to get a good night’s rest.

difficulty falling back asleep, overall light and restless sleep, and drowsiness during the day.

Unfortunately, sleeping pills are the dominant treatment strategy for insomnia. Sleeping pills don’t work for everyone, have side effects, and do not address the underlying stress that is keeping you awake.

Avoid bright screens and stimulants like caffeine, alcohol, or nicotine close to bedtime.

Through the practice of kriyas, specific breath control techniques, and exercises, anyone can find the fulfilling rest they need.

Exercise during the day so the body is ready to rest later. Be mindful of timing; exercising too late in the day can disrupt sleep.

A light snack is OK, but avoid heavy meals or spicy food before bed.

The importance of sleep hygiene

First, it’s critical to maintain good sleep hygiene. Signs your sleep could use improvement include taking too long to fall asleep, waking multiple times with

Here are some guidelines that you can follow to sleep better:

Drink a glass of water before sleep since dehydration can disturb the sleeping mind.

The 3HO Foundation recommends using these Kundalini Yoga techniques

to quickly achieve deep sleep in just a few minutes: Step 1: A busy mind has difficulty sleeping. Quiet your thoughts by first visualizing all your worries, ideas, and problems, wrapping them up in a package, then placing that package on a shelf in your mind. Step 2: Lie on your stomach, turn your head so your right cheek is on the pillow. This automatically opens your left nostril to bring in cooling, calming energy. Practice long, deep breathing in this position. Step 3: Once you feel drowsy, turn to your preferred sleeping position on your back or side. Sleep is always an important component of your health, so we hope these steps will help you refine your sleep routine.

GETTING TO KNOW Last month, we sat down with Mike Hahn, the founder of the recentlyinaugurated adtech company, ReverseAds, to learn more about the business.

Last month, we had the pleasure to sit down with the Founder of Phuket’s brand new Adtech company ReverseAds, who goes by the name of Mike Hahn. As it is one of the few companies offering a concrete alternative to Google AdSearch, we couldn’t resist but ask him a few questions.

Instead of sponsored listings appearing within the search engine, above and along with the search results, ReverseAds is everywhere after search. Concretely, how does it work? Keywords are assigned to buyers as they browse the web,

What is the future of ReverseAds? ReverseAds is BOI approved and is growing quickly. We currently have over 100 employees, with plans to grow to 300 employees over the next two years and go public on the Thai stock exchange within 18 months. Why have you chosen Phuket to establish the company? I visited Thailand years ago and fell in love with Phuket. It is such an inspiring place to work, and throughout my time here I’ve come across so many smart and creative people. I’m really excited to have an office in Rawai, because I truly see Phuket as a future hub for companies in the tech space, and hope to be the first of many digital companies to launch operations here. Finally, you have been an expatriate in Phuket for a long time; tell us one thing you absolutely love with the island, and one thing you wish could be changed or improved. I love the people in Phuket and the inspiring surroundings. There are so many great things about this part of Thailand that it’s hard to see any downsides.
