Fixx with his books about running. Shockingly, he later died of a heart attack at the age of 52. Because of the hippie culture and the newfound appreciation for nature, people started to venture into nature more often. People started to devote their weekends to being in nature and to exercise, but when people weren’t exercising or being in nature, people would oftentimes go to drive-in movies. Education By: Deven The Civil Rights Acts were fairly new, and neighborhoods still tended to divide by race. After the Civil Rights Act, segregation was still taking place throughout the south in schools. Education was really different then from now. For example, during the 1970s teachers could spank their students if they were behaving badly. During the 1970s only 62% of disabled people actually went to school. Many of the disabled people did not have the ability to receive an education. Afterwards, the law 94-142 guaranteed them an education. Before 1968, the Supreme Court had decided that school had to be taught in English. The Bilingual Education Act, provided immigrant students with education in their own language.
