No Child left behind!! by Josh Messinger Education in the 2000’s changed completely after Bush signed the “No Child Left Behind Act.. It stated that in order for public schools to receive federal funding, they had to give out a basic skills assessment test to all students. This new rule changed the way teachers were getting paid. Some teachers of some public schools began being paid based on what their students grades were on these standardized tests. This was and still is a problem because teachers of public schools can only teach what is in the book and not important things that are going on around the world that all kids should be aware of. For recent events that have happened in the world, public school teachers don't teach these events in their curriculum because they won't Another big educational change be on the standardized tests. was in 2006 when apple came out with the macbook pro and air. The style of school learning became very technologydependent. Most projects and homework now are done on the computer. These computers allow students to have more access to information than a book could give them Although according to current research, books are better for students brains then computers are.

Cupcake Craze, and Bye Bye Carbs!! By Chris Olazabal The Cupcake Craze was one of the biggest food trends of the 2000’s. The Magnolia Bakery started the trend after appearing on a tv show. Some of the most popular cupcake recipes were in Martha Stewart’s cookbooks. The cupcake craze took place in 2000. Bye, Bye Carbs!! The South Beach Diet had a foolproof plan for fast and healthy weight loss. Arthur Agatston published a carbohydrate reducing plan book, that was on the best seller list for 96 weeks. In 2004 one in 10 respondents said they were following the diet. By 2005 that number dropped to 2 percent and the trend faded. Good Bye carbs began in 2003.

Cornrows and Preppy Looks By Josh messinger In the early 2000s, cornrows became a popular hairstyle for athletes. Allen Iverson, a basketball player for the Philladelphia 76ers for 10 years, was the person who started the iconic cornrows trend. Cornrows are a type of braid that is supposed to look like the cornrows on a farm. These cornrows, at first, showed that you were part of gangs and that you grew up or that you were growing up in bad parts of the cities, but now they are just for style whether the person is wealthy or not. It is the prefered hairstyles for some African American athletes today. The whole preppy look blew up in the 2000s. The preppy look was started at the Ivy League schools by the students when they wore Sperry Topsiders, D-Ring belts, bermuda shorts of any color, and a shirt with a collar. These clothes were sold by many stores including a very popular Vineyard Vines. When Ivy League students began wearing this style of clothing, people from regular schools wanted to wear the same clothes because it at first showed that you were smart and wealthy. This style is the most popular style for teenage and college boys at parties or events.

Rock to Rap by Josh Messinger The culture of American music compeletely changed in the 2000s. The style of music changed from rock and classical music to a lot of hip hop and rap. The most famous rap artists wrote about their troubles in the ‘hood and how they went from nothing to something. Rap is pretty much just a beat with people singing very fast and quickly to it. The most famous rappers of the 2000s included Jay - Z, Eminem, Lil Wayne, T.I, and Kanye West.

These artists were the first to change the music culture. The songs were about the hardships of the ‘hood and then began to write more about drugs and deaths. Many adults do not approve of these songs for their kids because most of the raps include a lot of profanity and the use of the n word, although some parents do not care. Also, some of these songs can be demeaning towards women, which parents do not like their kids hearing. Overall, rap is still the preferred style of music for most kids, although the adults still like to listen to the rock and classical music of their time as kids.

George W. Bush was the 43rd president of the United States of America from 2001-2009. In 2000, he won his election against the Democrat, Al Gore. Even though he lost the electoral vote, he won the popular vote. President Obama’s second term was accompanied by vice president Joe Biden. The inauguration ceremony took place in 2013.

Domestic Affairs By Chris Olazabal During the early years of Bush’s presidency he instilled the No Child Left Behind Act. This act made it a national law to administer standardized tests to all students in public schools. Bush also spoke about the the plight of homelessness, crime, and drug addiction. Bush also ordered a huge tax reform that cut tax rates. He pressed instead for moderate cuts in tax rates, generous expansion of the pro family child tax credit. Another one of Bush’s domestic policies was the medicare prescription drug law. This law made late term abortions illegal. This made abortions after the 6th month of pregnancy illegal, therefore when a woman was pregnant for more than 6 months the woman has to have the baby.

Domestic Affairs (continued) By Chris Olazabal Barack Obama appointed John Podesta in the summer of 2008 anticipating that he would win the election. As a result of the early hiring when Obama was able to hit the ground running when he won the election on November 4th. Obama had to address a major economic crisis as soon as he was inaugurated in early 2009. Obama also recommended the American Recovery institute, as well as the Reinvestment Act.

Obama wanted to do more as a president therefore he sought a major reform of the nation’s healthcare. Healthcare reform had been a leading democratic party goal since president Truman was in office. Obama faced major hurdles in achieving his healthcare reform. But all in all he achieved the goal of the past presidents and passed the affordable care act. This was later ended by Donald Trump who’s now in office.
