S T A T E M E N T I’m inspired by both the life around me and the fabric itself. With my work I do not deal with any non existing problems, but I trust in simplicity, truthfulness and memories. Trust in myself and my feelings. I am permanently gathering a variety of interesting, beautiful and at the same time, useless and strange fabrics. The second-hand fabric makes it possible to assess the tangible and intangible heritage of previous generations. I work directly with the material and do not plan everything in the long run. My focus is on bigger, smaller, or totally fine details, allowing the viewer to experience the various dimensions of work, both in the vicinity and remotely. I believe that textile art is the art of senses, which should definitely not only be seen, but also felt.

R E F E R E N C E ElÄŤna Veilande Apine Elina Veilande Apine seriously and purposefully has made her way towards her creative growth and an important place in Latvian textile art. The knowledge, acquired at the Art Academy of Latvia, is shaped, developed and enriched by artists personality, and the strengthening and creation of the individual expression style. With her entry into the art life, we can talk about the development of textile mosaics by departing from restrained crafted performances characteristic for Germany and America. Her graduation work perfectly demonstrates that textiles can bring equivalent capabilities as the paints used in painting. 12.07.2017
Various possibilities of materials as transparency, structure, reflection of light, the possibility of winding, overlays, and so on, are perfectly used to achieve rich coloring and lighting solution of the surface. The artist reveals her interests, the ways of exploring the world, her feelings and the way of thinking by variating materials and technical capabilities. It is an interest in situations brought by life, ability to see the diverse possibilities and thematic orientation of the material. The artist’s sensitivity, perception and knowledge allows her to express her own themes, excites, reflections in her artistic images and color solutions with talent and peculiarity. This ensures attention to her art and success at Latvian and international exhibitions. Aija Baumane Professor, Art Academy of Latvia
