Exxon Begins Drilling At Payara Location States’ Oil Company, Hess Corp and Nexen which is a subsidiary of CNOOC each holds a share in the Liza prospect.

ExxonMobil moved its ‘Stena Carron’ drillship on Thursday, to test the third prospect of the Stabroek Block. According to global oil and gas news provider ‘Upstream’ in an article dated November 10, “The drillship left the Liza 3 location early Thursday for a 10-mile move north-east to the Payara location, where ExxonMobil and its partners will drill the latest wildcat on the sprawling Stabroek block.” Hess Corporation’s Chief Executive, John Hess told Upstream, “that Payara was a “very similar stratigraphic trap and same kind of reservoir sequence as the other Liza

wells.” The Stabroek Block consists of 6.6 million acres offshore Guyana and is where the Lizas are located. According to Upstream, the Stena Carron “drilled Liza 3 to a total depth of 18,100 feet in 6000 feet” and Hess noted that Liza 3 has the e “same high-quality reservoirs” as the other two Lizas. Teachers Want Better Salary And Working Conditions who is currently pursuing the Associate Guyana Teachers Union (GTU), if retired

Many trainee teachers of the Cyril Potter College of Education at Turkeyen, are not optimistic about government’s Plan to rehire retired teachers. Several first year students told the Guyana Daily News that the government should place more emphasis on the quality of training teachers receive at the CPCE and better remuneration package of current teachers. One young trainee at the CPCE

Degree in Education (ADE) said, “The Caribbean and America absorb the young and energetic teachers and many trained teachers opt to take the challenge because the salary and working conditions are better.” At a recent post cabinet press conference, Minister of State Joseph Harmon told a media gathering that the government had put thought into rehiring retired teachers, “We had a very long discussion on the retirement age for teachers since it was felt that the age at which teachers are retiring is the age when they are on top of their game.” The retirement age for public servants, including teachers, is 55. However, according to a senior Official of the

teachers are rehired, then it may hinder the process for young teachers in the system to develop and rise to senior positions. He further alluded to the fact that old teachers are stuck in the old ways of teaching and may not be susceptible to changes in modern education. ”We know that education is evolving and you have to put in place new strategies and plans to deal with the present education system we have, and if you are set in your old ways then obviously you will be left behind.” He further stated that “we want to see young intelligent people being deployed in strategic positions within the education sector.”

OLPT Distribution Reaches Region 9 A team comprising Fourth Vice President and Minister of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Sydney Allicock; Minister of Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes, and Head E-Governance Agency, Floyd Levi distributed laptops to 460 teachers in region. The distribution was done at three locations in the region. The teachers of the North Rupununi received their devices at the Bina Hill Institute in Annai, teachers of Deep South, at the Aishalton Secondary School, and the teachers of Central Rupunnuni, at the St Ignatius Secondary School. The teachers expressed their gratitude, describing the programme organised by the Ministry of Public Telecommunications, through the E-Government Agency as one that was eagerly awaited. Minister Hughes explained that the goal of the Ministry goes further than the laptops’ distribution in the region. She said that the ministry is working to create a series of Information Communication (ICT) hubs across the region, where members of the communities, including teachers and students, can go and have internet access and connectivity. The teachers were also assured that in the first quarter of 2017, the Ministry will be rolling out satellite-based internet access for the provision of better internet connectivity to the larger communities, particularly, those, with a large student population. The One Laptop Per Teacher (OLPT) initiative forms part of the larger Improving Digital Equity, Access and Learning (IDEAL) programmehat also includes connectivity to the internet for schools. The programme was launched in September by President David Granger as the beginning of a process of ICT transformation throughout the education system – a system which embraces over a quarter million Guyanese. Since the launch of the programme in September, the Ministry of Public Telecommunications, through the E-Government Agency has distributed 4244 laptops to teachers in Regions 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7, Levi said. The distribution exercise moved to Region 8 today, where 200 laptops were handed out. Over the next two weeks, the E-Government Agency will close out the distribution with 3200 of the devices. Former Haitian President Accused Of Inciting Election Violence "In accordance with the provisions of Chapter VIII of the Electoral Decree, which deals with the electoral campaign, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) invites you to come … in order to shed light on certain statements made during your electoral campaign in recent days,” stated a letter addressed to the candidate, dated Wednesday and bearing the signature of Léopold Berlanger, the president of the CEP. Former Haitian president Jean Bertrand Aristide PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti -- Following statements regarded as incitement to violence issued by former Haitian president Jean Bertrand Aristide, as part of the election campaign of Maryse Narcisse, presidential candidate under the banner of Aristide’s Parti Famni Lavalas, in Cité Soleil last Sunday, the

Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has summoned the Lavalas candidate to appear and explain the statements. Aristide had called on his supporters to resort to dechoucage (violent protests) if the elections did not take place on November 20, calling such violence a means of self-defence against those who oppose the victory of Famni Lavalas, HaitiLibre reported.

They must refrain from any incitement to violence and any act jeopardizing the life and property of the population subject to penalties under the Penal Code.” The CEP may remove anyone convicted of a breach of the law from the list of approved candidates and suspend political parties or political groups for up to five years. Several members of Fanmi Lavalas believe that this decision of the CEP to summon Narcisse proves that some members of the CEP are always hostile to the party. St Lucia Government To Address 'Gross Mismanagement' Of Tourism Board

Tourism Minister Dominic Fedee CASTRIES, St Lucia -- Saint Lucia’s minister for tourism, Dominic Fedee, spoke at length in Parliament on Tuesday concerning what he described as the perilous state of affairs at the Saint Lucia Tourist Board (SLTB), resulting from “gross mismanagement”. He said that the SLTB is now entering a period of significant transition, which explained why government was compelled to make some pivotal moves to restore the viability of the island’s main economic driver and foreign exchange earner -tourism. He noted that the government of Saint Lucia aims to achieve greater results from the tourism sector in the areas of visitor arrivals, cruise tourism and yachting. The minister told the House that the emerging statistics on visitor arrivals for the island along with a diagnosis of the financial standing of the SLTB both present dismal findings. Fedee surmised that some of the responsibility can be apportioned to a lack of clear direction. “There seems to

have been a focus on the land based tourism sector and there wasn’t any clear mandate to promote the island as the destination of choice that it should be for cruise passengers,” he said. “Cruise passenger arrivals year to date to Saint Lucia records a 19.6 percent decline,” the tourism minister added. Fedee said it is very concerning that the SLTB fell below its target figures in several key areas, including the UK and Canadian markets, cruise and visitor arrivals. “We also found our main entity to market our destination, the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, in a very bad financial state. In fact, the financial statements are showing that the Board started the financial year at 2016 – 2017 with payables from 2015 to 2016 of over $6 million. So while the Board had to contend with dwindling budgets because of policy decisions made by the previous dispensation, we saw that they were starting flat-footed with a debt of $6 million,” he explained. The 2016/2017 budget of the SLTB, the minister disclosed, appears to have been almost exhausted by September. “With a

budget of $34 million for the financial year 2016/17, the Board had already spent $26 million by the end of September and so, of the remaining $8 million, $4.8 million was allocated for administrative expenses and $3 million was committed to contracts to UK airlines to operate as marketing, creative and public relations agencies. “No allocation was made in the budget to cover the payables, which continue to be of much concern to the functionality of the Board. Eleven million dollars was allocated to the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival and in actual expenditure was in excess of $14 million. “This represents gross mismanagement and did impede the Board from carrying out its main function of marketing Saint Lucia as effectively as it should,” Fedee said. In the circumstances, he announced that the government will take the bull by the horns and usher in a period of transition and transparency to address the perilous state of affairs at the SLTB. The minister said the time has come for change and the industry has begun to take steps to rescue the island’s mainstay from suffering further losses. Fedee said that, when the financial audit of the SLTB is completed, he will report on the findings and make the results public. (Caribbean News Now!)

subject to these legislative changes, also gave approval for allisland exclusivity to be granted to the Preferred Bidder for a period of 15 years. “Any further period of exclusivity will be determined by the government of the day,” Shaw said.

Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw, emphasises a point while addressing the House of Representatives on November 1. Photo: Donald De La Haye By Latonya Linton KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) -- Debate began on two Bills in Jamaica’s House of Representatives on Wednesday, to establish a regulatory framework that will attract and support investment in the island’s horse-racing industry and facilitate the development of Caymanas Track into a modern world-class racing complex. The Bills – Betting, Gaming and Lotteries (Amendment) Act and the Jamaica Racing Commission (Amendment) Act – were piloted by minister of finance and the public service, Audley Shaw. Shaw said Caymanas Track Limited, being the sole promoter of horse racing in Jamaica, has over the years been affected by inadequate funding to invest in improving its infrastructure and facilities for better revenue generation. He noted that as a result of the recognition of the need to modernise and transform the horse-racing industry in Jamaica, the decision was taken to privatise the entity. “The process of divestment is far advanced, as the negotiated terms of the divestment transaction have been approved by the government. The passing of these two pieces of legislation, the provision of which would enhance the process, is necessary,” Shaw said. The minister noted that one of the main policy objectives these amendments seek to achieve is to provide the legislative support for the grant of geographic exclusivity with respect to the racing promoter’s licences. Shaw explained that the issue of an investor being provided an exclusive licence is not unusual in a divestment, as investors will want to be assured that they can recoup their investments. “Among the terms of the divestment transaction is the long-

He added that the Bills, as drafted, would facilitate all-island exclusivity, as the legislations allow for the terms and conditions of the grant of the licences, such as duration and area covered, to be specified in the licences. The minister further said it is important to note that the licences to be issued by the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission and the Jamaica Racing Commission would be subject to periodic reviews by the regulator. In terms of the Betting Gaming and Lotteries (Amendment) Act, it enables the regulator – the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission – to grant to any promoter, a licence to carry out track betting in prescribed geographic areas. For the Jamaica Racing Commission (Amendment) Bill, it proposes to give the minister the power to grant a licence to operate a racecourse in respect of exclusive geographic areas. “The passage of these Bills is imperative as the final terms have been negotiated for the long-term lease of Caymanas Park in St Catherine and the sale of all personal property owned by Caymanas Track Limited to Supreme Ventures Limited, the preferred bidder,” Shaw said. This would be the second Monday since we made our submissions. So we would expect an early response by Tuesday . . . . [However], if the response is not what we are looking for, we already have a strategic plan in place to continue. And as usual I am not going to leak any activities, but we will see the outcome,” Smith warned. She also said all of the unions “are supporting us one hundred per cent”. “Each and every one has membership that this matter can affect them somewhere down the line. So we are very cohesive in this operation because as I said, if it affects one, it could affect all,” she added. The NUPW sees Akanni McDowall’s reversion as an act of victimization against its president for taking the fight to the Freundel Stuart administration in a number of industrial relations battles, including over the Sanitation Service Authority and the National Conservation Commission. The union has already said it would settle for nothing less than McDowall’s reinstatement to the senior post in which he acted between June and October this year. (St. Lucia Times)

GUYANA DAILY NEWS Francis Calls For Commission To Appoint Diplomats PAGE 23

Outspoken Human Rights Activist, Mary Francis, has called for the appointment of a special commission to appoint Saint Lucian diplomats. “I am not saying that the political parties when they form the government they cannot select the persons of their own persuasion, but to ensure that we get the best type of representation we should have a committee or a commission in place ,” Francis told the Times. The Attorney at Law explained that the body could select from a cadre of persons who are nominated. She noted that in the United States, the Senate has to confirm some appointments. Francis asserted that the time has come when the persons who represent Saint Lucia overseas are trained in international relations and international trade. According to her, appointments should not be based solely on political

party affiliation. Her comments were made against the backdrop of the appointment of former National Security Minister, Guy Mayers, as Saint Lucia’s High Commissioner to London. The appointment came despite concerns expressed via an opposition letter to the Prime Minister that was copied to the British High Commission, calling attention to the former Minister’s alleged role in Operation Restore Confidence, an anti crime campaign that resulted in the alleged extrajudicial killing of twelve suspects. The Coordinator of the National Centre for Legal Aid and Human Rights observed that Saint Lucia’s overseas representatives may have to act on behalf of Saint Lucians whose rights are violated by immigration authorities. She disclosed that Saint Lucians overseas are seeking her help and she is unable to assist. “Right next door in Martinique there is a Saint Lucian who is a suspected case of trafficking – she actually sought the assistance of our Consulate in Martinique; up to now I have written the Minister of Foreign Affairs in recent times – not a word,” Francis told the Times. The Human Rights Activist noted that with the heightened spate of criminal activity in Saint Lucia persons who are

witnesses to crime and are afraid of reprisals are “running” overseas to places like England and Canada to seek refugee status. However she said that was not a basis for gaining refugee status. “I am trying to assist a woman in England right now who was a witness to a crime and only recently – in July I think, her brother was murdered,” Francis revealed. She said the British authorities are wondering whether the woman qualifies for residence in the UK. Francis spoke of cases in Canada where gay persons were seeking refugee status, claiming they were victims of persecution. The Attorney at Law told the Times that those were important issues – the protection of citizens at home. “We need Witness Protection schemes so that Saint Lucians will not have to run overseas and try to invoke some kind of refugee status to gain residence in the UK or Canada – these are issues that we have to find solutions to, so I am saying that we have to be careful when we appoint those persons so that we can get credible representation overseas,” Francis declared. She spoke of the need to ensure that government serves the people. (St. Lucia Times)

Bail Granted To Suspect In 2011 Murder Of Former St. Lucia Carnival Queen Contestant Alisha Hunte was found stabbed to death in her home. The man accused of murdering Alisha Hunte, a former St. Lucia Carnival Queen contestant, was granted bail in the sum of $100,000, when he made an appearance at the Criminal Court on Friday. Tristan Francis, the boyfriend of the deceased, who was represented by Attorney-at-Law Leslie Mondesir was charged with the capital offense.

He appeared before Justice Francis Cumberbatch. Francis is expected to pay half of the total sum of bail in cash and the rest as suitable surety. The 22-year-old woman’s body was discovered lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds in the bathroom of her Trouya apartment on May 18, 2011. SLP Says Chastanet’s Actions “Unjustifiable, Wicked And for Vindictive” consistently supporting the owned accommodation for the

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet PRESS RELEASE – The Saint Lucia Labour Party has been advised that the Government of Saint Lucia has decided to terminate the construction of the NIC financed Administrative Complex in Vieux Fort. This project was commenced by the NIC prior to the General Election and was intended to serve the people of the South, from Soufriere to Micoud, by ensuring Government

delivery of vital government services. Further, the construction was intended to boost the economic recovery of the island and provide badly needed employment opportunities to the people of the south. It seems that this Government has no compunction when it comes to wasting public funds to serve its vindictive and discriminatory ends. To date, at least $10.0 million has been spent on the project in preparing designs and undertaking site preparation and foundation works. Why then, should the project be terminated when such expenditure has been incurred? The Administrative Complex has now suffered the same fate of the Soufriere Square which was at least 80% completed when it was unceremoniously stopped by Prime Minister Chastanet. The Saint Lucia Labour Party is fully aware that the action of the UWP is purely to victimise the people of the south

Saint Lucia Labour Party and humiliate former Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Vieux Fort South, Dr Kenny D. Anthony by sending a message that “the UWP is now in charge.” According to the Saint Lucia Labour Party, “when the SLP was re-elected to office in 2011, it met plans to construct a financial complex at Pointe Seraphine. Despite its misgivings about the location of the complex and its cost, the SLP did not stop the project because it understood the need to provide employment particularly to persons in the Castries Basin. It is decisions like the arbitrary stoppage of the Soufriere Square and the Administrative Complex at the whim of the Prime Minister that causes, festers and sustains political anger in our country. These decisions by Allen Chastanet are unjustifiable, wicked and vindictive.” (St. Lucia News Online)

Trump: Obamacare Key Provisions To Remain US President-elect Donald Trump has said he is open to leaving intact key parts of President Barack Obama's healthcare bill. Mr Trump, who has pledged to repeal the 2010 law, said he will keep the ban on insurers denying coverage for pre-existing conditions. He told the Wall Street Journal that he also favoured allowing young adults to be insured on their parents' policies. "I like those very much," Mr Trump said of the two pillars of the bill. It was his meeting with Mr Obama on Thursday that had made him reconsider his calls for an all-out replacement of the Affordable Care Act, he told the newspaper. Asked whether he would implement a campaign promise to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate his defeated Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server while secretary of state, Mr Trump said: "It's not something I've given a lot of thought, because I want to solve healthcare, jobs, border control, tax reform." Meanwhile, protesters angered by Mr Trump's election gathered in several US cities for a third night on Friday. Thousands took to the streets of Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, voicing anger at the presidentelect's comments about immigrants, Muslims and women. Police in Portland are investigating the shooting and wounding of a protester on a bridge where anti-Trump demonstrators were marching. Officers had earlier used stun grenades to disperse a crowd of hundreds of people in the city centre. In a separate interview with CBS, Mr Trump said the parts of Mr Obama's healthcare bill he was "going to try to keep" were "the strongest assets". He said that while the bill would be repealed and replaced, the changes would provide Americans with "great healthcare for much less money". He made the statement during an interview with the 60 Minutes programme, which is due to air on Sunday Also on Friday Mr Trump put VicePresident-elect Mike Pence in charge of his transition team, replacing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. "Repeal and replace" - with emphasis on the former over the latter - has been the Republican mantra when it comes to Barack Obama's healthcare reform for the past six years. Candidate Donald Trump echoed this when he labelled the programme a "disaster" and promised something much better if he were elected president. Just days after the US public gave Mr Trump the keys to the Oval Office, however, he said there were parts of Mr Obama's signature legislative achievement worth keeping. The challenge for the president-elect is that the Obamacare features he praises - such as its mandate that insurers cover pre-existing medical conditions - are made possible by portions of the law he has condemned, like requiring all Americans to obtain insurance. Keeping the law's carrots while abandoning its sticks could prove difficult. Complicating the matter is that a "revise and reform" effort may not fly with Mr Trump's ardent supporters and the cadre of archconservative politicians in Congress, who want to tear up the law "root and branch". Mr Trump often broke with Republican orthodoxy while campaigning and didn't pay a political price. He may learn that as president he won't get far without his party establishment's help. During the election campaign, Mr Trump said the government-run health insurance marketplace was "a total disaster" and "a catastrophe". "Obamacare is just blowing up," he said only last month, while promising his own plan would deliver "great healthcare at a fraction of the cost". While running for president, Mr Trump did not offer much detail on what he envisaged would be Obamacare's

replacement. The Republican's plan included tax-deductible health savings accounts and allowing insurers to sell coverage across state lines. His apparent change of heart on Friday comes amid a surge in applications to join the plan from Americans possibly fearful it is about to be overturned. More than 100,000 applicants snapped up Obamacare health insurance on the day after Tuesday's election, this year's biggest sign-up, the Obama administration announced. About 22 million Americans would be without insurance if the law was repealed. Congressional Republicans have voted more than 50 times to undo the law. Though the Republicans have maintained control of the Senate, they cannot repeal the Affordable Care Act in its entirety because under Senate rules, the Democratic minority remain in a position to block the move. The Republicans could, however, starve parts of the bill of funding through a budgetary process called reconciliation. The law has not been without its difficulties. Last month, the Obama administration said the average cost of medical coverage under the bill was expected to rise by 25% next year for those Americans who do not qualify for subsidies. And about one in five consumers would only be able to pick plans from a single insurer, it added. Former President Bill Clinton last month called the unsubsidised portion of the law "the craziest thing in the world". In the US - unlike in many other Western countries - private companies, rather than the government, provide health insurance for most citizens. Controversial trade deal Meanwhile, the Obama administration has suspended its efforts to win congressional approval for a Pacific free-trade deal before Mr Trump succeeds him in January. The deal covers mostly agricultural products and involves 12 countries around the Pacific, but not China. Officials said that after eight years of negotiations the fate of the deal, known as the Trans Pacific Partnership, was in the hands of the next administration. Mr Trump has criticised the accord, describing it as a disaster which would send more jobs overseas. BBC business correspondent Joe Lynam says a collapse of the agreement would be likely to increase Chinese dominance of the region and damage America's global reputation. (BBC)

Bagram Blast: Bomber Kills Americans At Afghan Base A suicide bomber has killed four Americans inside Bagram airbase, the largest US military facility in Afghanistan. US Defence Secretary Ash Carter said two members of the armed services and two contractors had died in the attack. A further 16 US service members and one Polish soldier were injured, he added. The Taliban said one of their fighters had carried out the attack, a major security breach in one of the best protected places in Afghanistan. Bagram has been targeted by militants in the past but this is the first time a bomb has exploded inside the base. Just north of the capital Kabul, it has been used as the main military base and airfield by the US-led forces and Nato over the past 14 years. A local government spokesman said the attacker had entered the base early in the morning and was among Afghan labourers reporting for duty when he detonated his vest. Bagram is a heavily guarded military base with many layers of security and protection. The outermost layer is guarded by Afghan forces and second and more inner layers of security are guarded by US forces. High walls, security cameras, and watch towers on the outer perimeters and inside the base are just some of its formidable security measures. A surveillance balloon also watches the entire area. Every person entering the base is searched, in many cases escorted, and must have a pre-arranged meeting with someone inside. The security measures serve not only to protect military personnel on the base, but also to safeguard expensive state-of-the-art military tools, including fighter jets and unmanned aerial technology. US presidents visiting the country fly into Bagram, one of the most heavily guarded places in Afghanistan, because it is seen as more secure than landing in Kabul. General John W Nicholson, US Army commander in Afghanistan, said in a statement: ''[To] the family and friends of those wounded in today's attack, let me assure you they are receiving the best care possible, and we will keep them in our thoughts today." He said the incident was being investigated. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the attack had been planned over four months. Last December, a Taliban suicide bomber riding a motorbike killed six US soldiers in a village near Bagram in one of last year's deadliest attacks on

foreign troops. The attack on Bagram comes just a day after the German consulate in the city of Mazar-eSharif in northern Afghanistan was hit by a Taliban suicide bomb blast that killed six civilians and wounded some 120 others. The Taliban said on Friday that those attacks were carried out in retaliation for a recent coalition air strike in Kunduz which reportedly killed some 30 civilians. Correspondents say the Taliban are stepping up their attacks before the onset of winter. No confidence' Meanwhile, MPs in the Afghan parliament have dismissed the minister of foreign affairs, public works and social affairs for failing to spend development money allocated to them. A BBC correspondent in Kabul says if the money is not spent, it will have to be refunded to the foreign donors. Mr Ghani's national unity government has been plagued by infighting since it was formed in 2014. Ministers in Afghanistan are nominated by the president, and several more are due to face confidence votes by MPs. (BBC)

Australia's prime minister has been told he will not be welcome at next year's Mardi Gras parade because of his handling of the gay marriage issue. Organisers passed a motion on Saturday not to invite Malcolm Turnbull, who was the first sitting prime minister to attend the last gay pride event. Mr Turnbull, a supporter of marriage equality, backed his party's calls to allow a national vote on the issue. But the stance has angered some who fear a vote would be divisive. Currently, same-sex couples can have civil unions or registered relationships in most Australian states but they are not considered married under national law. Cat Rose, who put forward the motion at the Mardi Gras parade's annual general meeting, accused Mr Turnbull of using last year's event as a "media opportunity". Since then, she added, he had been "nothing but a conduit for homophobes wanting to derail marriage equality through a vindictive plebiscite". "We wanted to express our disgust at his prime ministership as a community and to say that we don't need his phony friendship," Ms Rose said in a statement released on Facebook. "For this reason we are not extending an invitation for him to attend the parade while we wait for equality." Despite opinion polls indicating that most Australians support same-sex marriage, some believe a plebiscite - which would be expensive - could unleash a homophobic campaign. A survey of 5,500 LGBTI Australians conducted in July by advocacy group Just Equal found that 85% opposed holding the referendum. Instead, they want Mr Turnbull to allow parliament to vote on the issue. This week,

It brings hundred of thousands of people to Australia from around the world, adding an estimated A$30m ( $22.6m/£17.9m) to the local economy. The first march was held in June 1978, on a global day of activism to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969, which followed police raids on New York's Stonewall Inn gay bar. But participants were met with police violence. This year, the New South Wales parliament apologised to the group, now known as the 78ers. (BBC)

Paris Attacks: Bataclan To Reopen With Sting Concert anyone who needs. "The whole world is going to see the

A concert by Sting will reopen the Bataclan hall in Paris for the first time since 90 people were killed by jihadists from so-called Islamic State. Scores of survivors are expected to attend the concert, which is being held on the eve of the first anniversary of France's bloodiest terror attack. Organisers said they decided to reopen the famed Paris concert venue to prevent it becoming a "tomb". Sting will donate the proceeds from the concert to two victims' charities. The Bataclan was the last place the militants targeted on Friday, 13 November 2015. The co-ordinated attack had already struck the Stade de France and restaurants filled with people enjoying their evening. The 130 people who lost their lives that night will be remembered in a series of low-key events over the weekend. But the concert at the Bataclan, where about 1,500 people had been watching American band Eagles of Death Metal when the gunmen burst in last year, is one of the most symbolic. Jules Frutos, who has co-run the venue for the last 12 years, told AFP news agency: "We had to go on after such horror and not leave a mausoleum, a tomb." Mr Frutos contacted British rocker Sting, who first performed at the Bataclan in 1978, about the concert after reading he wanted to help. Sting says he hopes the concert will "respect the memory as well as the life affirming spirit of those who fell". The 1,000 tickets on offer for the concert sold out within 30 minutes of going on sale. Hundreds of tickets were held for survivors, and there will be psychologists and counsellors on stand-by for

Bataclan live again," Jerome Langlet, of the venue's owners Lagardere Live Entertainment, added. The concert venue will be closed on Sunday, the actual anniversary, when a plaque is due to be unveiled in memory of those who lost their lives. The Bataclan, the interior of which has been completely replaced, is opening again on Wednesday for a series of concerts by British singer Pete Doherty, Senegalese star Youssou N'Dour and British Sixties legend Marianne Faithfull. Pakistan Shah Noorani Shrine Bomb 'Kills 30’ At least 30 people have been killed and more than 70 wounded, including women and children, in an explosion at a Sufi Muslim shrine in Balochistan, according to Pakistani media. Emergency services are struggling to reach the site in remote Kuzdar. Worshippers at the Shah Noorani shrine were performing dhamal - a trance-like dance - when the bomb hit. Sufism, a tolerant, mystical practice of Islam, has millions of followers in Pakistan but is opposed by extremists. A BBC correspondent says Sufi devotees have flocked to this popular shrine from all over the country, and from neighbouring Iran. Those critically injured are being transported to hospitals in Karachi 100km (62miles) away, according to local officials. Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and called for speedy rescue efforts. Imran Khan, former cricketer and head of the Tehreek-e-Insaf party, condemned the attack that targeted the "core of our society". Extremist groups in the province of Balochistan have frequently targeted civilians this year. In October, dozens were killed in an attack on a police college in the city of Quetta and in August an attack on a hospital there killed 70 people. (BBC)

Facebook Bug 'Kills' Users In 'Terrible Error’ An unusual bug on Facebook briefly labelled many people as dead. The error on Friday caused the social network to show a memorial banner on user profiles for people who were still alive. Users posted status updates to reassure friends and family they were not dead, despite Facebook's message. "This was a terrible error that we have now fixed," a Facebook spokesperson said. "We are very sorry that this happened." The message, intended for "memorialised profiles", erroneously appeared on the profile pages of a large number of users including Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. "We hope people who love Mark will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate his life," the banner on his page read. Technology reporters and Facebook users, however, saw a humorous side to the story. "Why Is Facebook Saying I'm Dead?" asked the New York Times' Katie Rogers. "At first, I was indignant. I was definitely not dead. Then I thought I had been hacked. Then I asked a few of my colleagues. Also dead." "Facebook is capping one of the longest weeks in American history by telling everyone that they are dead," quipped The Verge, a technology website, in reference to the presidential election. The memorial feature was introduced by Facebook in 2015 because of a number of high-profile cases where

family wanted to access the social accounts of deceased loved ones. User can opt to have their account turn into a memorial page upon their death, where Facebook contacts can leave message and share memories. An alternative option is to have your account deleted after your death. (BBC)

Syria Conflict: Aleppo Rebels Pushed Back By Assad's Forces Syrian government forces have retaken areas of the city of Aleppo that were lost to rebels in recent fighting. The loss of the territory on the city's western edges was confirmed by the rebels themselves, as well as state media and UK-based monitors. An estimated 275,000 people live under siege in the rebel-held east, where the UN says food rations are running out. Meanwhile a Russian naval force led by an aircraft carrier is said to have moved into position off Syria. Capt Sergei Artamonov, commander of the Admiral Kuznetsov, told Russian state media the battle group had arrived at its designated point in the eastern Mediterranean and was carrying out "joint tasks". The naval deployment has raised fears that Russia, one of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's closest allies in his fight against the rebels, will step up air strikes reported to have caused heavy civilian casualties. 'It has failed' On 28 October, rebels and Islamist militants in Aleppo began what they called an "epic battle" to break the siege, pounding government-held areas with hundreds of missiles. After early advances, their progress slowed but they took over several strategic points in the west of the city. On Saturday, it was confirmed that government forces had regained control of the al-Minian district and advanced into the al-Assad district. "The epic battle for Aleppo has failed," Rami Abdurrahman, of the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, was quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency. The fighting left 508 people dead, including civilians and fighters from both sides, according to his organisation.Ninety foreign fighters were among those killed on the rebel side while 83 Syrian soldiers, 28 Hezbollah militants and 41 other fighters from Iran and Iraq were killed on the government side, the Observatory estimates. "We fought them in every street, house, neighbourhood and schools, and they used mosques to launch attacks,'' a Syrian government commander who identified himself as Nabil told al-Manar TV, the channel run by President Assad's Hezbollah allies in Lebanon. Zakaria Malahifji, head of the political

office of the Fastaqim rebel group fighting in Aleppo, confirmed the army's advance. "Of course, when the regime takes control, it has a negative effect, but there is persistence," he was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency. 'Rations running out' The last remaining food rations are being distributed in rebel-held eastern districts of the city, UN humanitarian adviser Jan Egeland warned on Friday. Without a resupply, there would be no food left to hand out next week, he said. Mr Egeland ruled out airdrops of food, explaining that they were not possible in densely populated urban areas. In other besieged towns like rebel-held Madaya north-west of Damascus, shortages of food, medical supplies and electricity have led to cases of severe malnutrition. Aleppo, Syria's economic hub before the civil war began in 2011, has been divided between the two sides since 2012. Heavy bombardment of rebel-held areas by Syrian and Russian aircraft this autumn provoked an international outcry. Russia's air campaign in Syria, which began in September 2015 using planes mainly stationed at Hmeimim air base near Latakia, has shored up President Assad's position. An air campaign by Western powers has focused on the Islamic State group, which controls large parts of north-eastern Syria. (BBC)

Seoul Protest Targets South Korean President Park Geun-hye of dollars from big companies, including Samsung, on the

Hundreds of thousands of protesters have gathered in the South Korean capital, Seoul, to demand the resignation of President Park Geun-hye. Large numbers of police officers are being deployed to prevent demonstrators reaching the presidential palace. Ms Park is accused of allowing her friend, Choi Soonsil, to access government documents without clearance. The president, whose approval ratings have plummeted over the scandal, has said she is "heartbroken". Organisers said one million had turned out to protest on Saturday, while police put the number at 260,000. It is the latest in a series of mass rallies against her over the issue. Ms Choi is accused of trying to extort huge sums of money from South Korean companies and is under arrest on charges of fraud and abuse of power. She was detained last week on suspicion of using her friendship with Ms Park to solicit business donations for a non-profit fund she controlled. The protesters are more raucous than they were last week - still peaceful but there's more chanting than there was then. The focus of the protest is President Park Geun-hye, whose presidential compound (known as the Blue House because of its blue roof) is a short distance from the march and the main stage of the rally. If she is at home there, the noise will be inescapable. Between 20,000 and 30,000 officers are on stand-by around the perimeter of the Blue House. Many are in riot gear. Huge barricades have been erected, with water cannon in position. At the moment, President Park does not face any criminal charges, but people close to her are being investigated for corruption. Her close friend of 40 years' standing has been charged with setting up two foundations and soliciting millions

strength of her closeness to the president. Perhaps worrying for President Park is the fact that two officials from her office are also being investigated. She remains untouched but with the investigators circling. So are the crowds. Ms Park has apologised following the revelations, saying she "put too much faith in a personal relationship and didn't look carefully at what was happening". "Sad thoughts trouble my sleep at night. I realise that whatever I do, it will be difficult to mend the hearts of the people, and then I feel a sense of shame.'" She said anyone found to have done wrong would be punished, and that she was prepared to be investigated by prosecutors. Prosecutors have also said they are expanding their official investigation. India Rupees: PM Modi Says Move Had To Be Secret The plan to withdraw high-value rupee notes in India had to be kept secret, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said. Four days after the launch of the anti-corruption move, long queues continue outside ATMs as people try to exchange the 500 ($7) and 1,000 notes. "It had to be done suddenly but I never thought I will receive blessings for this," Mr Modi said. He hinted that other measures aimed at fighting corruption and the black economy might follow. Urging people to be patient, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that it would take a few weeks for banks and ATMs to completely replace the old notes, estimated to make up some 85% of the total currency in circulation. Mr Jaitley said that nearly $30bn in the old notes had so far been deposited in banks across the country. But chaotic scenes can still be witnessed outside banks as public patience is beginning to wear out, says the BBC's Sanjoy Majumder in Delhi. Some traders and small business owners have threatened to go on strike because they have been badly affected, our correspondent says. The opposition has also been critical of the move, saying the rural and urban poor have been hit hardest. But Mr Modi thanked his fellow countrymen who had "accepted the decision in national interest". And he warned that there was "no guarantee" that new measures would not follow after the noteexchange scheme ends on 30 December. He said "no-one would be spared" in the drive against corruption. But "honest people will not face any problem", he added. After Mr Modi's surprise announcement on Tuesday night, the banks were closed on Wednesday. Thousands of panicked Indians have been flocking to banks since they reopened on Thursday. There are limits on cash withdrawals from ATMs and banks. How long have people got to change their old notes? The 500 ($7; £6) and 1,000 ($15; £12) rupee notes are the highest denomination notes in the country and are extremely common in India. Airports, railway stations, hospitals and fuel stations will only accept them until the end of today. People will be able to exchange their money at banks between 10 November and 30 December. How much 'black money' is there in circulation? The actual figure is unclear but correspondents say the issue of "black money" -

which may have been acquired corruptly, or is being withheld from the tax authorities - is a huge problem. India's government hopes to flush out tax evaders and make money that is unaccounted for visible for tax purposes. There have been reports of tax raids in many parts of India. Is there a limit on the amount an individual or household can cash in? An individual can put as much as he or she likes into the bank - but withdrawals are limited so the banking system may end up being flooded with cash. Government guidelines say it is possible to exchange up to 4,000 rupees per day up to 24 November - anything over this will be subject to tax laws. People can also withdraw up to 10,000 rupees from a bank per day and a maximum of 20,000 rupees per week. Are the new notes safer? New 2,000 and 500 rupee denomination notes with new security features are being given to people to replace those removed from circulation. A new 1,000 rupee note "with a new dimension and design" will also be introduced in due course, a senior government official said on Thursday. What will foreign tourists carrying the banknotes do? They can purchase foreign exchange equivalent to 5,000 rupees using these bank notes at airport exchange counters until midnight on Friday. (BBC)

Egypt Wins Approval For $12bn Loan From The IMF The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a threeyear $12bn (€11bn) loan for Egypt to help the country out of its deep economic crisis. Egypt will receive $2.75bn immediately, with the rest subject to its economic performance and further reforms. IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said the bailout would "address longstanding challenges". Egypt's President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi is facing high unemployment and a budget deficit of 12% of GDP. The country has struggled to attract foreign investment since the political turmoil in 2011 and the so-called Arab Spring, which saw former president Hosni Mubarak overthrown. Tourism - traditionally a leading source of income for Egypt - has declined sharply over the past five years. Last week Egypt floated its currency in a move that reduced its value by almost 50% against the dollar in an attempt to strengthen confidence in the economy. The government also increased interest rates by three percentage points to 14.75%, and raised the price of basic commodities and fuel. The moves led to widespread criticism of the president and a drop in his popularity. A big security operation was put in place in Cairo to pre-empt mass demonstrations that had been expected on Friday. Ms Lagarde said the latest "home-grown economic plan" was intended to tackle the country's large budget deficit, low growth and high unemployment rate. She said that further reforms, such as reductions in fuel subsidies and legislation to

reduce Egypt's public sector wage bill, were necessary for the country to move forward. "Resolute implementation of the policy package is essential to restore investor confidence," Ms Lagarde said. In 2013, Egypt's first democratically elected president, Mohammed Morsi, was ousted by the military, led by Gen Sisi, after only one year in power. Mr Sisi was later elected president in May 2014. A Day Like Today in Neo-Nazi times, called the attention of critics and directors

Ryan Gosling, Canadian actor better known for his versatile presence in stage, and his charming ways to conquer each and every character that he impersonates, is turning 36 today. Ryan Thomas Gosling was born on November 12th 1980, in London, Ontario. He grew up in the bosom of a humble family. His father was a salesman and his mother a secretary. The family split in 1993 after their parent’s divorce, forcing Ryan to move with his mother and his older sister Mandi. Growing up with a dominant female presence helped the young Gosling to build a strong respect toward ladies, often bringing up his subtle and tender side. Gosling assisted to the Gladstone Public School, Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School and Lester B. Pearson High School. Succeeding academically, was a challenge for Ryan who was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at a young age. He was prescribed with Ritalin (a central nervous system stimulant) and placed in a class for special-need-students. His mother didn’t support the idea of keeping Ryan in a class for special children, so she decided to quit her job and give him classes at home for a year. In that short period of time, his improvement was immense. Something that he is been grateful to date. He was always drawn by acting. Growing up he would normally perform in weddings and local events with his sister. He later joined the ballet school, institution, that helped him build his confidence on stage. Crawling into different characters would become an easier way to deal with his ADHD, necessity that became a passion during his teenage years. He dropped high school at the age of 17 to follow his acting career. Ryan became a ‘child star’ at the age of 12, when Disney gave him a two-year contract in the 90s American television show ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’. After the contract was due, he continues to work in television shows, but he needed to venture into something more challenging. He stopped accepting television works and focused on getting a role on the big screen. His debut on the cinema was in 2001, with the American Drama film ‘The Believer’. Marquez Proud As Mexico Trump USA

Donald Trump's election and incendiary rhetoric about Mexicans cast a shadow over Friday's game, where Rafael Marquez scored decisively. Mexico captain Rafael Marquez hopes his lastgasp winner against the United States will help to lift his compatriots at a "time of intolerance". Friday's World Cup qualifier in Columbus was played out against the backdrop of Donald Trump's shock victory in the US Presidential elections. The controversial Republican candidate used incendiary rhetoric against Mexican immigrants to the United States during his campaign, pledging to build a wall across the 2,000 mile border separating the countries at the Latin American nation's expense and accusing Mexicans entering the US of "bringing drugs, bringing crime… their rapists". Veteran defender Marquez was on hand to glance home an 89th-minute corner from Miguel Layun, whose 20thminute opener was cancelled out by Bobby Wood early in the second half, as

Mexico handed the USA a first ever defeat at Mapfre Stadium and the match-winner acknowledged it was a victory that would resonate beyond football. "Maybe now there [has been] a bad time," Marquez said. "I don't know about bad time, but a time of

intolerance. "But now, with this win [Mexicans] can forget a little bit about what happened here in the United States." Mexico lost 2-0 in Columbus during each of the past four qualifying campaigns, prompting the mocking "dos a cero" chant from US fans. Head coach Juan Carlos Osorio was pleased to break the cycle. "As one of our assistants said well, we're not trying to change the history, because it's impossible to change it, but we're trying to make our own history," he said. "In this match, we showed that we have the mental fortitude to compete anywhere, that the team is able to overcome adversity, that it's capable of winning games in the last minute like many good national teams do on the international level." Marquez added: "It was the best opportunity to change this story. It was what we were thinking about the last couple of days. "There were a lot of times we didn’t have a good game here and right now we are very happy. It is very important for us." (SportsMax)

Klinsmann Not Concerned B y M e x i c o D e Mapfre f e aStadium, t the visitors

D

efeat to Mexico is not the end of the world for United States' Wo r l d C u p q u a l i f y i n g campaign, says head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Jurgen Klinsmann insisted losing to Mexico was "not a problem" for United States in their World Cup qualifier in Columbus. The

German coach opted for a newlook 3-5-2 formation for his side's opening fixture of the Hexagonal stage on Friday but it failed to deliver the result he wanted as Rafael Marquez snatched all three points for the visitors in the closing stages. Mexico's 2-1 win was the first time the USA have lost at

having lost 2-0 there in each of their past four qualifying campaigns. Despite seeing that run come to an end, Klinsmann was not worried about their stuttering start and is confident they can put it right when they visit Costa Rica next week. "The message is very simple: We've got to go down there [to Costa Rica] and get a result, which we will do," Klinsmann said. "It's the first of 10 qualifying games. “Obviously Mexico is the biggest one we play, but we always know that with Mexico it goes eye to eye, it's going to be a nail-biter, and sometimes it goes their way and then the other times it goes our way. "So it was not a problem but obviously it's disappointing, no doubt about it — we don't want to lose this game." (SportsMax)

T&T Begin WCQ Hex With Home Loss To Costaminute, Rica the dangerous Jomal

C

ristian Bolaños scored a goal and assisted on another as Costa Rica opened play in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win over host Trinidad & Tobago on Friday at Hasely Crawford Stadium. The Ticos remained unbeaten in the competition, improving to 6W-1D-0L, while T&T failed to win in a third straight outing. Costa Rica capitalized on a break down in the Trinidad defense to take a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute. From the right edge of the six-yard box, a determined Cristian Gamboa delivered the ball to the completely unmarked Bolaños, who had time to take

a touch before tapping into a wide open net with his right foot from two-yards out. In the second minute of stoppage time, Ronald Matarrita netted an insurance goal. Joel Campbell lifted a beautifully weighted ball into the path Bolaños. The Va n c o u v e r W h i t e c a p s standout drew in a pair of defenders at the top of the box and then slipped a pass to the right, where Matarrita stationed. He calmly looked up, before poking a left-footed shot past stranded goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams from 12 yards. T&T had opportunities to end a WCQ scoreless streak that was eventually extended to 218 minutes. In the 32nd

Williams blazed just over the crossbar from the top of the box off a spectacular, rightfooted side volley. Eight minutes into the second half, he barely missed on connecting with a lunge after Joevin Jones did well to whip in a cross from the right. With Costa Rica leading 1-0, a leftfooted effort by Carlyle Mitchell looked destined for the lower-left corner, but a diving save by goalkeeper Keylor Navas preserved the clean sheet. The Central American champion also generated other opportunities as Celso Borges nodded wide of the right post in the 17th minute and, with six minutes remaining in the first half, Kendall Waston's bounced header forced a flailing Williams to swat away the ball for a corner kick. Next up for Costa Rica is a Tuesday encounter with the visiting USA. T&T will travel to Honduras for a meeting between two sides looking to bounce back from losses. (SportsMax)

South Africa 2 Senegal 1: Bafana Bafana Benefit From Bizarre Refereeing Call

R

eferee Joseph Lamptey was the villain of the piece for Senegal as his penalty call set South Africa on their way to a 2-1 win. South Africa got their World Cup qualifying campaign up and running with a controversial 2-1 win over Senegal in Polokwane. The Group D match was heading towards a listless stalemate at half-time before referee Joseph Lamptey gave a penalty to the hosts for handball, even though replays showed the ball struck Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly on the thigh. Thulani Hlatshwayo converted and a reeling Senegal were not allowed to recover as Thulani

Serero added a second before the interval. Substitute Cheikh N'Doye scrambled a goal back but South Africa move ahead of their Group B rivals on to four points from two matches, while Lamptey left the field with a substantial security presence. Liverpool forward Sadio Mane flashed a header over from a ninth-minute free-kick but chances were largely hard to come by during the opening stages, with both teams pedestrian in their build-up. Senegal goalkeeper Abdoulaye Diallo handled a sweetly struck Keagan Dolly effort in assured fashion but he found himself

facing a penalty after widespread confusion. No South Africa players appealed when Koulibaly got in the way of Eleazar Rodgers' header and lengthy protests followed before Diallo got a touch to Hlatshwayo's spot-kick but could not keep it out of the bottom corner. The complaints from the Senegal players were still going on after a wonderfully worked South Africa second – Serero wrongfooting Diallo with a clever first-time finish into the bottom corner when Mpho Makola touched Dolly's low cross into his path. Senegal should have reduced the deficit 11 minutes into the second half but Moussa Konate steered his header wide from eight yards, while Dolly shot wide at the other end. Stoke City striker Mame Biram Diouf headed wastefully wide before fellow substitute N'Doye bundled in with 15 minutes remaining. South Africa were indebted to a superb save from Itumeleng Khune as Mane looked to turn home but they held on to ease the pressure on coach Shakes Mashaba. (SportsMax)

Conte Reveals 3-4-3 Was His Plan D

helsea have had great recent success in the Premier League with a 34-3 formation, but it has come via lots of tinkering. Antonio Conte has revealed that Chelsea's success with a 3-4-3 formation has come about by accident after actually being his plan D. Chelsea began the Premier League season well as they recorded three successive wins, but a draw with Swansea City and two defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal in September proved they still had a long way to go. Conte's first four months in charge of the club have seen him tinker with various tactical set-ups, but following the loss to Arsenal the Italian set on 34-3. It was the fourth system he had tried with his team and Chelsea

this system. “I thought it would improve us offensively as well as defensively and we didn't lose our offensive situation. "In this way we have increased it because we scored many goals and created a lot of chances to score the goals and also if you maintain the clean sheet, I think this is the right way." One particularly notable facet of Chelsea's play so far this term has been Conte's ability to get the best out of his players even when out of position. Victor Moses has enjoyed something of a resurgence, playing 10 times in the have picked up five league wins in league as a makeshift wing-back succession since that humbling at after three seasons out on loan, the Emirates Stadium, becoming a while full-back Cesar Azpilicueta more potent attacking force been shifted around and regularly without sacrificing their defensive deployed at centre-back. stability. Panama Edges Honduras In Hexagonal Opener

P

anama kicked off play in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup with a 1-0 win over host Honduras on Friday at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano. Fidel Escobar scored the only goal in the 22nd minute, when his right-footed free kick from 22yards out took a slight deflection off Honduras’ Romell Quioto before hitting the back of the net. Although other chances were hard to come by in the first half, both sides were more dangerous after the break and were unlucky to not generate additional goals. In the 57th minute, Panama goalkeeper Jaime Penedo produced two outstanding stops. He made a diving save off a Diego Reyes effort from the right side of the box and, seconds later,

t h e 3 5 - y e a r- o l d c u s t o d i a n thwarted Alberth Elis at pointblank range. Blas Perez had an opportunity to double Panama’s advantage in the 57th minute, only to miss way wide of the near-left post despite being

completely unmarked in the box. Honduras goalkeeper Donis Escober maintained his side’s hopes in the 65th minute. The Olimpia standout first blocked Alberto Quintero’s initial attempt and then dived at the left post to prevent the ball from crossing the line as the midfielder tried to slot home his own rebound. Elis had an opportunity to equalise in the 89th minute, but was unable to connect from the right side of the box. Outgoing WICB CEO To Run Stanford Facility

W

est Indies Cricket Board CEO Michael Muirhead is to manage the Stanford Cricket Ground and Sticky Wicket Restaurant once he demits office. The facility is to be expanded to house the new headquarters of the West Indies Cricket Board as well as the players' academy. Muirhead will be in charge of identifying funding as well as the overall expansion programme. Already, 12 pitches have been added to the six already in the middle of the Stanford Cricket Ground. The outgoing WICB executive, speaking on the

Good Morning Jojo Sports Show this week, said the deal for him to take over is all but done. “I have not signed a contract yet, but I am moving

towards that,” Muirhead said of the project. “The initiative was totally mine to try and acquire it, and I started this over two years ago. I brought it to the board for the first time in September of 2014 and that was after going independently to the liquidators. I saw the opportunity and what could be derived from it.” Work on the ground is expected to be completed by December. Muirhead will relinquish his position as CEO as soon as the WICB finds a replacement. (SportsMax)

Consistency Pleases Hard-working Rashid

H

aving put in a lot of work in the nets, Adil Rashid was delighted to have taken four wickets to keep England ahead of India. A confident Adil Rashid was pleased with his consistency after claiming a four-for on day four of the first Test between England and India in Rajkot. England secured a slender firstinnings lead of 49 runs as India were all out for 488, before the tourists put on another 114 without loss to hold a 163-run advantage at stumps - though a draw looks the likely outcome. Having helped the tourists' cause with four wickets, Rashid was delighted his efforts in the

nets had paid off. "It was the most consistent I've bowled. I felt confident, and it came out of the hand nicely," he said. "I've been working hard in the nets with [bowling consultant] Saqlain Mushtaq. He is not trying to do anything technical with me – just getting me more relaxed and focused. "I felt quite good. It's from a lot of hard work in the nets and then executing those skills in the middle, assessing the pitch, knowing the pace at which to bowl, the lengths, the lines and the field settings. The more you play, the more comfortable you feel." Rashid's haul included the removal of

Virat Kohli on 40, the India captain knocking off a bail when the back of his heel connected with the stumps for a hit-wicket dismissal. "I noticed it first when [wicketkeeper] Jonny Bairstow pointed to the stumps. Virat was in shock. It was a pretty good feeling. That was the first time I have got a wicket that way," added the 28-yearold. A 114-run partnership between skipper Alastair Cook (46) and debutant Haseeb Hameed (62) helped rebuild England's lead, and the 19-yearold has made quite an impression on Rashid. He said: "He's been very good. He's got a good head, he's a clever and solid boy, works hard in the nets and a great talent. He showed that and hopefully he can carry that on. "He's very calm, he's a very organised cricketer as well and he's got a good sense of humour. I think he's fitted very well into the dressing room and hopefully he can carry that on for many more years to come. "He works hard, is very clued up and to see him get the runs here is a good feeling." (SportsMax)

I Won't Be Like Terry As Belgium Captain - Hazard

E

den Hazard looks set to be Belgium captain for the foreseeable future, but he does not want people to expect him to be like John Terry. Belgium captain Eden Hazard is keen for his leadership skills to not be compared to his Chelsea skipper John Terry's as the winger prefers not to "talk too much". Hazard was given the armband ahead of Euro 2016 due to Vincent Kompany's injury absence and the Chelsea star will remain in that role for the foreseeable future. Kompany has been back in

contention this season, but he continues to pick up niggling injuries which are forcing him back into the treatment room. Coach Roberto Martinez confirmed on Wednesday that Hazard will continue as captain for continuity even when Kompany is present in the squad, though the 25-yearold will not be looking to develop similar characteristics to his skipper at club level. “It's good for me to be the captain," he told reporters ahead of Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Estonia. "I enjoy it. "But I can't be like

John Terry. As captain, I don't talk too much. I try to talk with my feet on the pitch. "My ambition is to lead Belgium to t h e Wo r l d C u p , t o w i n something for the country. I hope we can do it but it's still far away." Hazard has rediscovered his best form this season after struggling at Chelsea last term, and he has already scored seven Premier League goals under Antonio Conte, three more than he managed during the 2015-16 campaign. And Hazard has suggested that Conte's tactical tinkering is why he is finding the net again. "Maybe the system has helped me to find my form,' he added. "We tried it in Belgium, now we do it with Chelsea. "I said after the 5-0 win against Everton, it means I just need to focus offensively as the wingback is there to defend. My fortunes have changed since the system changed. "It's very good to play with my brother as well. I hope there will be lot o f g a m e s t o g e t h e r. " (SportsMax)

Bolt Brushes Off Doping Insinuations: I know I've Done It Clean

C

laims Usain Bolt's success is aided performanceenhancing drugs have been brushed off by the sprint icon, who knows he is clean. Nine-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt is unfazed by insinuations that he is guilty of drug use because he knows he is clean. Bolt burst onto the scene by taking gold in the 100 metres at Beijing 2008 with a world record time of 9.69 seconds, prompting some to claim he did so by illegal measures. The Jamaican has since trimmed that world record to 9.58secs and went on to complete an unprecedented 100m, 200m and 4x100m treble for the third successive games at Rio 2016,

achievements he says will not be cheapened. "I really don't let things like that bother me. It's because, over the years, you know that's going to happen. That's what they're going to ask," Bolt told The Guardian. "I'm going to enjoy this, no matter. When you work so hard for what you have done, and it finally comes, it should feel good. "I'm not going to let somebody else rob me of that moment. I feel good because I know I've done it clean." Bolt overcame long-term rival Justin Gatlin to take gold in the 100m at Rio, the American getting booed as he lined up at the blocks for the final. That reception came as a surprise to Bolt, though he struggled to feel

sympathy following the mudslinging that has occurred between the two. "I was really shocked. In all the years I've been doing track, I've never seen somebody get booed at a championship," said Bolt. "[I felt sorry for him] a little bit. But then, after all the talking that was going on all season, not that much," he added with a chuckle. Given Bolt's superiority in their head-tohead record, he would like to see Gatlin challenged whenever he claims to be capable of winning a race between the pair. "The one thing that always annoys me is when Justin Gatlin always says: 'Oh, I'm going to beat Usain Bolt, blah, blah, blah.'," said the Jamaican. "I'm like, why don't interviewers ask him, why should we believe you? I really want an interviewer, one day, to ask him that question – to say, 'You guys have got up 10 times, you've won one of them. Give me a good reason why we should write that Gatlin's going to beat Usain Bolt?' "People should call you out on it. But if you are actually the best, then I feel as long as you don’t overdo it, it's fine." (SportsMax)

Mohammed Replaces Bravo, Bishoo For Narine In Windies Squad

T

he West Indies Cricket Board's (WICB) selection panel has named Jason Mohammed to replace Darren Bravo for the upcoming one-dayinternational Tri-Nation series with Sri Lanka and hosts Zimbabwe. The 30-year old, right-handed batting allrounder, recently captained the West Indies A Team in a 3-0 series win over Sri Lanka A in Sri Lanka. He was captain and one of the leading batsmen in the three-match series with scores of 105 not out, 58 and 14. Bravo has been replaced due to inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour, which is contrary to his contractual obligations to the WICB. The clause in his

agreement (in clause 4.7.2.2 of your match/tour contract) states that players are not to make any statement in or to any form of media (which shall include, without limitation, print media, television, radio, Internet or any social networking media), or any other public statement,

which would bring yourself, WICB or any official or authorised representative of WICB or the game of cricket into disrepute and your agreement to use all such media in a responsible manner. Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo has been named to replace offspinner Sunil Narine who has withdrawn from the squad for personal reasons. Bishoo was the leading bowler for the West Indies in the recent Test Series against Pakistan in United Arab Emirates – where he took 18 wickets in the three matches. The 31-year-old has so far played 13 ODIs, and taken 20 wickets at an average 23.8; with an economy rate of 4.28. (SportsMax)

lAl Blacks Bounce Back With Italian Demolition Job

I

taly were no match for New Zealand in a 68-10 defeat in Rome, the All Blacks running in five tries in each half. New Zealand responded to their shock defeat against Ireland last weekend by cruising to a routine 68-10 victory over Italy in Rome. The All Blacks were beaten 40-29 by Joe Schmidt's men in Chicago, ending a world record run of 18 consecutive victories by a tier-one nation. But Steve Hansen's side showed no hangover from that setback as they ran in five tries in each half in a real mismatch of a Test on Saturday.

An All Blacks XV sporting 12 changes to the side beaten by Ireland made a strong start Malakai Fekitoa's fourthminute try a first stitch in the Chicago wounds. Carlo Canna got Italy on the board with a kicked penalty, before Charlie Faumuina powered over the line and Aaron Cruden doubled his tally from tee to make it 14-3. Patrick Tuipulotu dived through Italian legs after a driving maul drew the All Blacks within inches of the line, and Israel Dagg exploited a gap in the defence to score New Zealand's fourth try with just 26 minutes on the clock. The

12-minute wait for another try felt like an age following the All Blacks' flying start, but Wyatt Crockett went over under the posts to help the visitors to a 35-3 half-time lead. And it was more of the same after the interval. Codie Taylor popped the ball inside to flanker Elliot Dixon, who showed the pace of a winger to race down the right flank before offloading to Steven Luatua to touch down. It was all too simple for the All Blacks as Fekitoa crossed for his second score of the match, and Dixon followed up his earlier try-making run by going over himself after 62 minutes. Italy did eventually get their try - Tommaso Boni ran from inside his own half following an interception to pull the scoreline back to 5410 with the help of Tommaso Allan's conversion. That joy was short-lived, however, as Rieko Ioane soon restored order, with Waisake Naholo rounding off the scoring three minutes from time. The All Blacks head to Dublin for a second clash with Ireland next weekend. (SportsMax)
