4 Letter from the presidentw Hi Gators! With the changing weather, I'm happy to say that our club faced some positive changes this past month as well! September was a blast--we raised $200+ with our car wash and lemonade fundraiser to help our club and Children's Miracle Network; finally broke our 1,000 service hours line, running towards our goal of 2,500 hours for the year; and elected our Freshman Representative. We are on an incline for our service hours and dollars raised for service as well as membership, and I can't wait until we further grow as a club in these few months left of 2013! Going back to September events, there were some interesting and fun events prepared for this month! From washing cars to working on posters, Green Valley Key Club had a variety of ways to serve our home, school, and community this month. Be sure to check out articles and photos for those old businesses in the following pages of this newsletter. Well, October is ahead of us; although not all of us are attending Region 5 Training Conference (RTC), I know we will still find rigid participation in all of our other events in October. And I hope that many of us can attend District Convention (DCON)! There is one more thing I'm super duper excited about in the month of October: interclub! Yes, in the month of October, we're going to have an interclub event where we meet Key Clubbers from other neighboring clubs and do some fun service with them while bonding via eating! It's going to be a potluck, so please feel free to begin brainstorming for food ideas now! Also in October, we're going to continue to fundraise for DCON. Hopefully, we can reduce DCON fees to the maximum, because it is my personal wish that we get as many members as possible to DCON this year (well, next year, 2014-DCON is in April 2014). Even though schoolwork is getting busier by day, our board members are gaining even more Key Club spirit as we expand our club. And I hope that's the same for you. We are ready to do some amazing things this year, and we need YOU, yes YOU!, to participate in this journey with us. Looking forward to another productive and fun month, Ji Eun Bae Green Valley Key Club President 2013-2014

Welcoming Kate ! Let’s welcome our new board member, Kate Rockey - Freshman Class Representative ! "My goals for being a good Freshman Rep this year is to try to bring in more freshman members and spread the word about key club. Another one of my goals are to listen and pay attention and try and contribute as much as I can as Freshman Representative. I'm really enjoying my freshman year so far. I came from a really small private school and having huge classes like these are wonderful. The people are really nice and it's a great school. I'm so proud to be a gator!" -Kate Rockey Green Valley Key Club Freshman Class Representative 2013-2014
CONGRATULATIONS KATE !!! We are more than happy to have you in our club board ! - The Board members
6 Old business ! Teacher Help 9/11 Kylie Teruya: “I personally liked to help out the teachers and volunteering made me more sociable with other people! (More friends woop woop!) I would love to help the teachers again and plus it's easy hours to get! (It sometimes gets you on the good side of teachers too). Overall this was a fun experience and fantastic key club teamwork ! I can't wait to do it again!
Carwash Prep 9/13 Ji Eun Bae: At the Car Wash Prep, we created posters to present at the date of the car wash. My favorite part of this service event was getting to know other members of the club I serve while having fun and bonding with them through brushes and paint, if that makes sense! The clean-up was a little difficult at the end but through teamwork we made it possible to clean up quickly. It was a pleasure getting to know other members and it was fun talking to them for the first time. Plus, drawing and painting is always fun. I know we're having another car wash in the future and certainly another poster prep service project; can't wait for the next one!
7 Carwash Fundraiser 9/14
Ji Eun Bae: At the car wash fundraiser, my fellow Key Clubbers and I worked to advertise on the streets, wash and dry cars, and sell lemonade. Knowing that all of this was set up to benefit our club and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, many people made a few extra donations, which was heartwarming to witness. Although I found the work was hard and rigorous, at least in the beginning, it got better as we all got the hang of it. Later, we even found ourselves relaxing in the water sprayed by the hose and just having fun while we're slow! Overall, the car wash was a great experience, and I can't wait for our next one!
Christina Steinberg: I spent my birthday at the car wash, and it was a unexpectedly neat experience. I've never actually washed a car before, so that was something new! I think it's a great thing that the proceeds went to a good cause. It makes me feel like I'm actually helping others. Angelina Howell: I had a lot of fun and a great experience at the Fall Car Wash! We all worked great as a team and were able to rotate different jobs so we got to experience working each of the positions. Although our lemonade stand wasn't as successful as we would've liked we still were able to wash a good amount of cars and enjoy the day! I look forward to our next car wash coming up soon!
8 Old Business DCM 9/17 Michael Camino: On September 18th, I went to the DCM with the other key club members and we watched the presidents give their speech. I also took pictures , had some pizza and had fun playing games with my friends that came to the DCM as well !
RTC Prep 9/18 Kylie Teruya: On September 18th we did RTC preparation and we helped make the Gator visors! Vania, Richard, Pamela and I cut out the mouth part of the Gator or the outlining while Ji Eun, Vincent and Chase helped cut out the Gator's teeth! Jerry, and some other girls made the spikes for the Gator's back and all of us helped make the eyes! Nia got to put together some of the gators and they looked super cute! I had fun in this event because it was a great way to spend time with friends and help out at the same time. I would definitely do it again ! Ji Eun Bae: On Wednesday, September 18th, members and I gathered in Mrs. Santee's classroom and cut out foam to prepare for RTC supplies. Although not everyone in the room was going to RTC, it was still nice of them to volunteer to help out with the supplies. While cutting and drawing and gluing, I got to know a few new people and talked to them, even if just briefly. I wanted to stay longer but had to go early, but hopefully, I can stay the whole time next time! The crafting was fun and it's always nice to bond with members through service
