CENTRAL WAREHOUSE FOR COMBINED FORCES Procurement logistics | Warehouse logistics
EFFICIENT LOGISTICS WORKFLOWS If a company expands and develops new locations, transport routes become more complex. Gebrüder Weiss (GW) helped Grundfos in Hungary with this logistical restructuring – in an efficient, reliable, and cost-saving manner.
AT A GLANCE:
GRUNDFOS
Grundfos is a global market leader in the area of pumps. The company based in Denmark mainly produces circulator, submersible and displacement pumps, including the associated motors and electronic control systems. The company is active in 57 countries around the world, with Hungary being one of its most important locations.
THE CHALLENGE
THE CHALLENGE Grundfos Hungary was looking for a logistics service provider to optimize and coordinate transports between its central warehouse and the four different production locations. The challenge: ● Storing and delivering the raw materials to the factories ● Managing the finished products and forwarding these to the distribution centres ● Optimizing the supply chains between the central warehouse and the plants
THE SOLUTION
THE SOLUTION Gebrüder Weiss (GW) created a warehouse with a crossdocking area for all four factories. All incoming raw materials and the end products are stored and managed here, and forwarded to the 48 distribution centres in 22 countries. The services at a glance: ● Storage space for 15,000 pallets with raw materials ● Establishing a 2,000 square-meter cross-docking area ● Enlarging the storage space by a further 2,000 square meters thanks to the successful market position of Grundfos ● Coordinating the raw materials of more than 100 suppliers ● Warehouse logistics in three shifts ● Integrated management interfaces – information from all four factories is pooled in a central warehouse and can be quickly processed.
THE BENEFITS
THE BENEFITS Efficient logistics This solution allowed Grundfos to reduce delivery costs by ten percent and annual storage costs by up to three percent. Just-in-time deliveries eliminate expensive empty runs and warehouse costs. Administrative expenses have also been reduced considerably.
Higher customer satisfaction The synchronized management makes production and distribution more reliable and efficient, and also easier to calculate. There is a quick, shared solution for each problem, leading to shorter response times and more satisfied customers.
Quality assurance The management system provides comparable KPIs that form the basis of quality assurance. The customer uses these KPIs on an ongoing basis to further improve workflows.
