design design hypothesis
Badan Warisan Based on the site analysis, there are two major issues. Therefore, the building is lack of attraction and poor indoor air quality. This project is to improve the building aesthetic value and also to enhance the visibility to the public. Moreover, natural ventilation can be implemented to build up the air quality inside the building. The building of Badan Warisan is a British colonial architecture with the combined elements of Malay traditional houses. The design can carry out an out standing feature to highlight the elements together with the material used on the building. Bandar Warisan is not only a resources center, it also a place for exhibition and they provide activities as well. However, with limited space inside the building, the interior usage need to be fully utilized with better circulation. There are several things need to be improved, such as space planning, interior ventilation, and space circulation. By improving the natural ventilation, Malay traditional house ventilation systems can be enhanced from the design concept.
design hypothesis
precedent This contemporary house is designed with modern features but not losing the principles of a Malay Vernacular house. It is built with modern materials such as lightweight steel and glass to merge with the natural surroundings seamlessly. In terms of the design principles of Malay Vernacular house, it is build on stilts. This highlights the considerations of cooperating with the climatic to cool the building eectively without the needs of technological systems. Outdoor deck leaded by a staircase was designed as the entrance of the house.
This focuses on the contextual surroundings through blurring the lines between interior and exterior. This feature reflects the concept of covered porch and steps in a Malay Vernacular house where the porch acts as the transition space between outdoor and indoor. In terms of the internal layout, The Deck House reflects the idea of Malay house by having open-plan spatial arrangement. In the aspects of sustainability, this is to allow sufficient natural cross ventilation with minimal walls obstructing the wind flow. In the aspect of functionality, it provides maximum use of spaces which encircle multi-functional spaces.
