Proactive Ponderings about Common Challenges by Shellene Van der Beke Challenge: Acceleration Is it just me or does ‘news’ come and go so fast these days it’s head spinning? Be it words on the street, a cable TV broadcast, YouTube video, Facebook post or Twitter tweet, it seems the world’s hunger for “new news” is insatiable. Not brand new? Toss it like Tuesday’s trash. The magnanimous Stuart McLean

A doddler by nature, I am one of those folks easily overwhelmed by the volume and speed of today’s media. Some news I simply refuse to listen to (TV: mute, radio: off) while some happenings in the world lastingly linger in my mind and heart.

The recent passing of broadcaster, researcher, documentarian, humorist, monologist and author Stuart McLean is one such occurrence.

Over the past two decades, so very many of us near a radio on Sunday around noon enjoyed a moment to take in Stuart’s Vinyl Café. If at home, it sat us down. If in our vehicle, it was known to pull us over. That voice, those Dave and Morley stories, and the wonderful musical guests resonated with us in such a heartfelt and human way. Laughing out loud was a given along with a good many tears.

One episode each year, Stuart dedicated his broadcast to the Arthur Awards. Created by Stuart, they honored acts of kindness that might otherwise go unnoticed. Recently, while on our way to Masset, my Husband and I were listening to the CBC tribute to Stuart and I was delighted when a lady came on nominating an Arthur Award to one of Haida Gwaii’s kind souls, dearly departed Wendy Riley. Wendy, who owned and operated Tow Hill’s Moon Over Naikoon Bakery, had generously let the lady on the radio and her camping partner sleep in the bakery after hearing their tent had flooded in a heavy rain.

Proactive Solution: Deceleration

People like Wendy, Stuart and the Vinyl Café team cultivated taking a pause in our busy and often challenging lives to tune into something positive. Souls connecting. Is not the true spice of life about spending less time “doing” and more time simply “being” with people, places and things we truly love and admire? Flashy or cutting edge? Perhaps not. Worthwhile? For all of us doddlers in the world: a resounding yes.

“There is more to life than increasing its speed.” -Mohandas K. Gandhi ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Health and Harmony: Taoist Tai Chi on Haida Gwaii

To an outsider, it looks like effortless, slow motion dance; a foot carefully placed here, the arms lift gracefully up, and then to the side, the foot slides back slowly to find a new position there to the right, a gentle turn of the torso, and on it goes. The group moves quietly, as one. This is Taoist Tai Chi® (TTC), a gentle, ancient practice dedicated to spiritual and physical well-being. The health benefits of TTC are undeniable. From back pain relief to decreased drugs needed for chronic asthma; from avoided surgeries like knee replacements and carpal tunnel release to increased bone density; from lowered anxiety to increased balance and coordination – these improvements and more were captured in a 2016 survey of 6000 Canadians practising TTC.

55 Haida Gwaii residents practice, ranging in age from early 30’s to mid-80’s. Four accredited instructors offer classes in Sandspit, Tlell, and Queen Charlotte. “I can’t imagine stopping Tai Chi” said Beatie. If I did, my back and joint pain would return. My energy would go down. But more than that, we are a community. We take care of one another, we learn how to move together. There is harmony and joy in that!”

Over half of respondents said their practice had a positive impact on their energy, endurance, posture, and coordination. Almost a third identified improvements in muscular issues and circulation and noted less depression, stress and anxiety. A decrease in the intensity and frequency of pain was experienced by a quarter of respondents. Their stories are compelling. “My back pain has gone with Taoist Tai Chi® . I do not use analgesics or need to go to physio” said one respondent. “When I first started Tai Chi, I could not stand up straight when getting out of bed in the morning. It took 30 minutes to do so. No longer an issue”, said a woman in the 40 – 59 age category. “I have scoliosis and a recent x-ray showed it’s almost gone (curve of the spine is lessening)”, reported a woman in the 20-39 age category. None of this is a surprise to Queen Charlotte’s Beatie Maxen, practicing for 23 years. “I was dragged to my first class when I moved here. I watched how everyone moved so naturally in a dignified, graceful manner. I decided I want to look like that!” Now a volunteer instructor of 20 years, Beatie is committed to this path of lifelong learning. “First we learn the movements, then it becomes more about developing and cultivating ourselves as human beings”, she said. TTC can be done by anyone, young or old. Approximately

Art Show Time!

by Jamie Mcdonald, Coordinator of the 2017 AIAS If you were able to get your art piece ready and submitted by March 4th, get ready to put on your swankiest outfit and head on down to the Haida Heritage Centre for the big reveal on Friday March 10th! That’s when the All Islands’ Art Shows’ (AIAS) Grand Opening is taking place with doors opening at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome to this free event which features new works from many of the Islands’ artists, regardless of their level of proficiency. As Sandra Price shared, the idea is to allow adults, whether they consider themselves artists or not, to have a space to show their art and receive feedback. “We’ve seen people who had never considered themselves as artists enter a piece of art for the first time ever in this show and then go on to have their own solo shows after receiving encouragement from the community and tips from the adjudicator”. So come and be blown away by these Islanders’ creativity. Can’t make it? Don’t fret, the exhibit will run until April 8th. Speaking of receiving great tips from the adjudicator, this year’s visiting adjudicator Janice Tanton will be available by appointment on March 31st to give guidance and helpful feedback to participating artists. That evening, Janice will present her work and talk about how her artistic projects engage the community in innovative, collaborative works that re-envision the texture and cultural makeup of contemporary landscapes. This free event will be held at the Performance Hall at the Haida Heritage Centre (doors open at 6:30pm). Finally, don’t forget to register for the Egg Tempera workshop led by Janice on April 1st from 9am to 5pm. For $40, you can go home with knowledge, pigments and 3 canvases on which you will have tried out this unique technique!

Surf Scoter’s Up

The waves are big and the black shapes of surfers can be seen bobbing away as the swells roll in. Closer to shore the hardy Surf Scoters feed undaunted by the active ocean. The 20” black, male sea ducks (females are dusky brown) are winter residents along the coast of Haida Gwaii. Non-breeding flocks will stay the summer while the breeding birds will fly to the Arctic tundra for mid-June, where a down-lined hollow will be home to half a dozen youngsters tended solely by the female.

The male Surf Scoter is recognizable from a distance by the white patch or patches on the back of the crown and nape. Closer inspection will

show a large bill marked with orange, black, and white. Females have light spots on the side of their heads. While feeding close in, the large ducks will dive down, pull a mussel from a rock and swallow it to be ground up in the bird’s strong gizzard. They are quiet birds, maybe uttering a low grunt or croak here and there. Often seen with Goldeneyes and other types of Scoters, they continue to ride the stormy waves long after the surfers have packed up their boards and gone home. Multidisciplinary artist Thomas Arnatt specializes in murals inspired by birds, nature & meditation. His studio is located in the beautiful Tow Hill Road community on Haida Gwaii. Summertime Adventure & Learning on East Limestone Island By Lindsay Seegmiller

Every summer for the past 28 years, Laskeek Bay Conservation Society has welcomed a team of local and global volunteers to our research station on East Limestone Island in the K’uuna Gwaay Conservancy. Arriving three at a time with Moresby Explorers, these “citizen scientists” spend a week working with our Lead and Assistant Biologist to monitor and conserve the local marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

Over the past 28 summers, activities such as these have helped LBCS compile some of the longest, continuousrunning seabird data sets in Canada. The data gathered through our low-cost and low technology methods has contributed to a wide range of research and conservation plans, and it has helped us and other researchers identify the many links between offshore marine and coastal rainforest environments.

In a given week, this might mean hiking the trails with a pair of binoculars seeking out wildlife trees that are actively home to cavity nesting red-breasted sapsuckers and hairy woodpeckers. Other days, you might find yourself out on the boat, quickly counting marbled murrelets, rhinoceros auklets and pigeon guillemots along a series of transects. In May, you can probably expect a few late nights as you monitor funnels for ancient murrelet chicks with the help of visiting students, while later in the summer you might spend more days removing debris and pulling out invasive plants.

Some volunteers are avid ornithologists, and others are experienced citizen scientists. Most, however, come for the learning and the adventure. Each year, we take delight in the group of Haida Gwaii residents who immerse themselves in our work, and return home with a deeper understanding of our local species, the threats they face, and the difference we can make.

Late afternoons are reliably spent in the cook cabin, preparing a fantastic meal. From the elevated table, you have a perfect view for observing congregating seabirds and watching for whales. After dinner, you will likely spend some time looking through the scope counting ancient murrelets in their gathering grounds, before heading to your tent to fall asleep to an orchestra of bird song.

Should you have a spare week this summer, come join us on Limestone. It’s a unique learning experience and transformative adventure – and we only ask for a small donation to help cover the costs of your transportation and food. In joining us, you will become an essential part of our annual field team – we cannot complete all that we do without the support of our volunteers. For more information, visit www.laskeekbay.org. Volunteer spots are available in May, June and July but spaces are limited and filling up quickly.

The Past, Present, and Future of Haida Gwaii Basketball By Pete Moore and Jason Alsop

“When we came out of Residential School, 56-57 years ago, there was about 5 of us. We got together and started playing basketball. That’s how the first team started,” Dull Brown tells the audience at the 2017 Clan Tournament. On the way to a tournament in 1963, the original team heard the song “When the Saints Go Marching In” playing, and the rest is history. 54 years later, the Skidegate Saints teams venture across the Hecate Strait to Prince Rupert to compete in the annual All Native Basketball Tournament. The tournament has been dominated by the Saints Senior team, with 5 consecutive victories already to their name. This year, the Kitkatla Warriors posed a particular threat to the Saints continuing their title. Having beat the Saints convincingly earlier in the tournament, the stage was set for an exciting rematch in the final. Trailing for the majority of the game, the Saints pulled off an unbelievable comeback in the fourth quarter to force the game into overtime. The Saints took a 2 point lead, 74-72; Kitkatla’s final 3 point attempt hit the rim and bounced up and hit the support system above the rim, meaning the ball was out of bounds. Against all odds, the Saints had won. As the buzzer sounded, the Haida Gwaii-ans erupted in a rendition of the Haida national anthem. People in the stands rushed onto the court to congratulate the players. When giving Jason Alsop a high five, he responded by saying, “that one was for the kids!”

With time, Alsop has found further meaning in the victory: “After a couple days of reflection, I would like to say a big HAAWA to the people of Skidegate who inspire us, to all the great players out there that motivate us to be better, to the future generations of Haida ballers who watch us and hold us accountable by forcing us to be role models and to my teammates who keep on showing up to the gym and in life with the goal of being better than you were yesterday. Winning is an elusive thing. It can be one play, one word, one event that can potentially change the energy and outcome of a situation. I’m proud to be a part of group that understands and believes in this phenomenon. In this way, the game of basketball is a part of our spirituality as men/warriors of our community. This understanding can teach the power of positive thinking and the power of thought, preparation and a respect for others (opponents) and how everything is truly connected within our world. I’m so proud to share this experience with all of the players, coaches and fans of the All Native Basketball Tournament who can appreciate this collective experience and our role as leaders to make positive change within our communities. With the loss of some of our traditional systems, basketball and sport has provided a platform and filled a void we are temporarily filling while helping our people and communities HEAL and get HEALTHY physically and spiritually!! HAAWA HAAWA HAAWA!!! Everyone for all that you do to make this possible.”

CONNECTING WITH CULTURE: OUTDOOR CAMPS ARE FLOURISHING ON HAIDA GWAII

Since the late 1970s, thousands of youth from Haida Gwaii and around the world have attended outdoor camps here, taking advantage of a unique opportunity to live on the land, learn about Haida culture, practice traditional skills, and build new friendships. Haida Gwaii now has three outdoor camp organizations, offering different experiences but sharing the common goal of bringing young people together in a remote wilderness setting. • At the north end of the islands, Rediscovery Haida Gwaii offers cultural camps at T’alaang Stl’aang, within the Duu Guusd protected area.

12

This past summer, all camp sessions were full, with 167 young people and three elders attending the revitalized program. • At Swan Bay, within Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site, the Swan Bay Rediscovery Camp offers youth the chance to spend eight days living in traditional longhouses, learning to survive off the land, and practicing Haida stewardship laws. • The Mount Moresby Adventure Camp Society operates a camp facility at Mosquito Lake on Moresby Island, and also organizes outdoor education experiences for students in local

communities. Last year, grade 5 classes at Tahayghen and Sk’aadgaa Naay schools enjoyed full-day excursions every three weeks with local experts, exploring food harvesting, fishing, fire making, surfing, swimming, kayaking and more. At the Mosquito Lake facility, the society once again offered week-long camps for all district students in grades 5, 9 and 11. A partnership with Gwaii Haanas allowed the grade 9s to spend three days and two nights at Windy Bay, exploring old-growth ecology and Haida cultural history.

The Gwaii Trust is a strong supporter of these camps. We know they bring enormous benefits, to individual campers as well as the islands community. We know that stable funding is important, allowing staff to leverage additional grants, and focus on strengthening their programs instead of fundraising. In 2016, we distributed $90,000 in regular funding to the three camps - $30,000 to each. In addition, we approved a Major Contributions grant of $137,467 to Rediscovery Haida Gwaii to replace the old and unsafe cookhouse building at T’alaang Stl’aang.

Available to the World, For the Community The Haida Gwaii Museum Archive goes online By Pete Moore On Saturday, February 25th, the Haida Gwaii Museum officially launched their brand new eMuseum function that features a digital archive. The website features over 2500 scanned photos from the museum’s photo archive, as well as images of some of their physical collection. However, this is just the first phase of the digital archive, as the eMuseum is still growing, and will continue to do so. What is on the website now is just a portion of the museum’s full archive; the museum has about 10,000 physical images in their archive, so what is available online is about a quarter of their holdings. “What that means,” explains Nathalie Macfarlane, the Haida Gwaii Museum Archives and Curatorial Advisor, “is anybody with an internet connection can [...] access the archives online.” Increasing the museum’s online presence has been a goal for quite some time, and the first step was establishing their own website. With the website in place, and built with the intention of holding lots of content, creating the eMuseum was the next step. “In terms of intensive work, it’s been two years to get to this stage,” says Macfarlane. To get everything to the point that it is at now, a lot of groundwork had to be laid, starting with getting the museum archive and information into a digital database, which required taking information from hard copies, and putting it into a digital form. “There was a tremendous amount of documentation to do,” Macfarlane says.

Above: Cherie Wilson gives a demonstration at the launch Left: Three Haida canoes, possibly in Masset Inlet / 1915

Below: Kerouard Island with Grey Rock Breaker in righthand distance / 1939

Making the archive more easily accessible is something with worldly possibilities. However, although this is something the Haida Gwaii Museum is excited to offer, their primary goal with the digital archive is to engage the local community. With the eMuseum established, the buzz around its potential has inspired some imagination of future ways it can be utilized by Haida Gwaii. “We are hoping, also, that people will be able to give input on what we do have,” says Cherie Wilson, who was also very involved in the digital archive project. “We have unidentified photos of people, and we are hoping that community members will reach out and let us know [...]

so that we can put a name to the face.” Wilson continues, “If we’re missing important events that happened on the islands, then hopefully community members will contribute to the museum; let us get copies of important moments of life on Haida Gwaii.” Although not yet fully functional, the framework is in place for people to eventually be able to make accounts on the website and create their own collections. Pictures can not be downloaded or reproduced from the website, but users could still curate their own exhibitions directly on the website.

How to Access the Haida Gwaii Museum

Digital Archive 1. Go to haidagwaiimuseum.ca

The digital archive not only extends the museum’s reach, but also has the potential to revolutionize the museum’s purpose to some degree. “The old idea of a museum was to collect original images or photographs, but now, with digital technology, the idea of a digital archive is that it is kind of like a community memory collection,” says Macfarlane. Pending community participation, Macfarlane looks forward to the possibility of it serving as a central database for the community’s images, collections, and memories. The potential of the digital archive is very exciting for the museum, but that does not mean they’ve stopped building the archive. Digitizing the audiovisual collection has already begun, with cassette and reel-to-reel already completed. “There’s really valuable information there, because a lot of it is oral history,” says Macfarlane.

2. In the top right corner, select the “EMUSEUM” tab

The Haida Gwaii Museum’s digital archive serves many purposes: it is a collective memory, a means of preservation, and a method to make Haida Gwaii’s history worldwide. All of these help make Haida Gwaii available to the world, but ultimately the archive is for the community.

3. You have various options of ways to navigate the archives displayed in the tabs

Longhouses and totem poles at the village of Tanu

One great way is to go ‘Thesaurus’ > ‘Attributes’ > ‘Objects’ > ‘Subject Headings’, this allows you to go by category

Haida Gwaii Film is set for the big screen By Pete Moore Local filmmaker Patrick Shannon is gearing up for the release of his new film Red Girl, shot entirely on Haida Gwaii. Patrick has taken a brief hiatus from filmmaking, but was still able to do some film work through his business. “It wasn’t until the past few months that I’ve decided to make a return to filmmaking with my latest short film Red Girl,” Shannon says. Red Girl is a supernatural horror film that follows the story of Jess, a 29 year old Haida woman who returns to her village after 15 years. Along her journey, Jess struggles with her identity as a young indigenous woman, and is forced by these struggles through the powers of supernatural beings. “The idea came out of the desire to have more conversations about our identity as young indigenous people,” says Shannon. “The story and emotions that Jess experiences are the same that many young indigenous people experience, especially those removed from the culture for a long period and the guilt and lack of identity that often results.”

One of the major takeaways of making a film on Haida Gwaii for Shannon comes from his cast and crew. “We have so much untapped talent on Haida Gwaii,” he says “I am very excited to work with friends and other young up-and-comers who are taking every opportunity to follow their passions in filmmaking.” Shannon’s crew was largely

composed of youth film enthusiasts that he has been working with for a few years now.

The film is set to be completed by the end of March, with a release date to hopefully come shortly after that. “I’m really excited about two things in particular,” says Shannon. “For the themes of the film to spark dialogue regarding indigenous identity and what does it truly mean to be a part of a community like ours, and to showcase the talent and hard work of the amazing local actors and crew who helped bring this story to life.”

“I was inspired by many of our traditional Haida stories. I love how many of them use hardships and trials to instill values and lessons upon the characters. I wanted to make a sort of contemporary Haida legend.” Behind the scenes photos are courtesy of Red Girl and were taken by Cora Camire. HAIDA GWAII LOCAL FOODS PROJECT Food Security, Year-Round Featuring Marylynn Hunt

Here on these misty isles, we’re at the end of the line. It doesn’t take much, a ferry cancellation or highway closure, and we might not have fresh food. This can often cause a sense of panic for folks ...but all is not lost. Did you know we can actually grow fresh food inside and out (with only a bit of cover) year-round? The wonderful thing about gardening on Haida Gwaii is…well… we’re not “four month growing season” Winnipeg! Yes, we have blow-your-hat-off desiccating winds, challenging soils and limited access to often expensive soil amendments. The good news? Our temperate climate results in ground that can be worked and planted in, yes, early to mid March! Need proof? Long-time green thumb and farmers’ market vendor Marylynn Hunt harvests edible greens from her St. Mary’s Spring Estate Farm pretty much year-round. “There is no need to wait until May,” affirms Marylynn “even if it snows. Cool season seeds will

be fine so long as they are planted at the proper depth.” “Many people think a vegetable garden is done and over with at the end of the season,” continues Marylynn “remember those perfectly smooth, turned over plots our Grandparents used to till each fall? Well, here’s the thing: you can’t eat dirt!” Bare dirt in a garden is an invitation for unwanted weed seeds to blow in and get established and our seasonal storms bring soil eroding winds and nutrient leaching rains. Marylynn recommends you let your edible greens selfseed in the fall so you can enjoy eating the plantlets all winter and then turn your soil over when you are ready to plant again in the spring.

“You can’t eat dirt!” - Marylynn Hunt

Fresh greens picked in January! Photo from Marylynn Hunt

St. Mary Spring Estate Farm Early Planting Tips:

Around the 1st week of March (when soil crumbles in your hand): some examples of seeds you can directly sow into the garden include cress, arugula, winter purslane (also called miner’s lettuce or Claytonia), mizuna, kale, garlic (if you missed planting it in the fall) and leeks. Mid March: direct sow kale, broccoli, swiss chard, lettuces, beets, peas and spinach, etc. ✓ Make a garden map: rotate your crops (to avoid root maggots and to alternate heavy and light feeders) every year. A four quadrant garden design makes it easy to rotate crops and to keep track. A great book to check out (available at our local libraries) is the “All New Square Foot Gardening” by Mel Bartholomew. ✓ Collect seeds in the fall from your most vigorous plants, let them dry completely and then store them for your spring sow. ✓ For those seeds you purchase, be sure they are open–pollinated seeds. This way, the seedlings will look and taste like their parent plants. “The more people that are growing food,” explains Marylynn “whether it’s just a window sill, patio or sun room planter or sprouts in a jar on the counter…the more food security we will all have.”

Still Keeping

Calm and

Burying On By Shellene Van der Beke The fact of the matter is, Haida Gwaii does not have the population to support (nor afford) a funeral home or a mortician. And yet, death care services are undeniably essential and deserve to be offered with dignity and respect. Speaking of respect, on Thursday, February 16th, one of our deeply valued members of our islands community, retired bookkeeper, recipient of the Order of QC and volunteer Community Undertaker for past some 25 years, George Westwood, was invited to Victoria to receive a formal apology in the Legislative Assembly of BC. An apology that was, in many folks’ minds, long overdue. “I was treated like royalty,” George shared with me, while sipping on his Queen B’s coffee. Five years ago, the BC Funeral Association registered a complaint against George with Consumer Protection BC, saying he was an ‘unlicensed funeral director taking advantage of people grieving’. Following this complaint he was investigated in depth and at risk of a possible year in jail and a $10,000 fine. In her February apology, after once saying that George was “unsuitable for the job,” Justice Minister Suzanne Anton graciously and humbly retracted her words, saying she repeated misinformation that she was given and that she had misspoken. In stating what his real reason for going to Victoria was George said “I didn’t require an apology, I require better services. Burying the dead is one of the basic obligations of humanity…to feed, to give drink, to clothe and to shoe. To visit, to console the sick, poor and afflicted and to bury the dead. That’s all that’s requested of us, the rest is either trim or greed.” With this in mind, George had the honor of a rather lengthy sit down (well over an hour) with Corporate Policy and Planning Executive Director Toby Louie. “We discussed workable ways to set up after death services for remote areas,” reports George. “Once the powers that be (3 BC Acts, Consumer Protection Branch, Funeral Directors Association, etc.) get to the point of approving a rural death care precedent, the idea is that an appropriate person

interested would apply to take on the role of (suggested titles) a “Funeral Commissioner” or “Community Undertaker”. They would have to be community-approved and backed by authorities such as the town mayor, RCMP, etc.” Although there is much work to be done, it is a worthwhile cause and George is a champion of getting it off the ground. “This is not for me or for you (or for anyone’s term in office); it’s for all of us, forever.” When asked if he is retired from community undertaking, he quipped “Heck no, you retire when they bury you.” Although he will continue to assist with local, after death care needs, his key message for us all is: • Email your MLA. George has the ball rolling. Now, we need to keep it rolling. AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE: email Jennifer Rice, our North Coast MLA at jennifer.rice.mla@leg.bc.ca and let her know you’ve heard of an after death service for remote areas, what’s to become of it? What are you doing with it? THIS IS AN ELECTION YEAR: if MLA’s from all over BC report that they have many constituents asking about this, it has to be dealt with. • Have an Advance Care Plan in place. This will not only ensure your wishes are honored but greatly reduce the stress and risk of unnecessary conflict, arguments and added grief for all involved. Give your death care plan to your doctor to put into your medical records. • Northern Health also puts out a very helpful and informative pamphlet called “Responsibilities of the Next of Kin for Burial on Haida Gwaii”. Ask for a copy at your local health centre (in Queen Charlotte you can get a copy at the Health Information Office, located on the second floor of the new Haida Gwaii Hospital).

“If you’re graceful in life, you’ll be graceful in death” - George Westwood

Being that George assists with anywhere between 12 to 50 deaths annually, it is understandable that he is often asked, by folks of every age: What happens when you die? His response will be sure to make everyone smile: “When you go into the sea, you put a wetsuit on, while you are here, you have an earthsuit. When you leave, you will leave your earthsuit behind. The zipper in the back will pop open and the spark will nip out and go onto the next adventure.” George continues with “If you’re graceful in life, you’ll be graceful in death. Everybody has that spark, some people have a bit more baggage than others…you just have to be able to see through the baggage.” With his standing as an accepted and respected after death care service provider restored, George can now get back to, for the most part, enjoying his retirement with his lovely wife Heidi along with their dogs, ducks, geese and a cat. If you have any general death care questions on what to do, George is more than happy to help. Messages can be left @ 250-559-8086.

On the Water

In part or complete-Power Boats/Sail Boats

Stolen stuff...reward for info. My beloved kayak and the outboard for my beater skiff were stolen earlier this fall from the Nadu river mouth on Masset inlet. They’ve been there for six or seven years with no issues, but it seems like someone finally decided they need them more than I do. The kayak is fiberglass, Greenland style with high bow and stern- no rudder. Screw-on hatch covers. The boat motor is an old beater Johnson my kid and I used to get out camping in the inlet with. I’m not so worried about the boat motor- it’s easier to replace than my kayak is. If anyone has seen anything or knows anything about this stuff please get in touch - no questions asked. I’ll offer whatever money I can scrape together at the time, as a reward- should be at least a couple hundred dollars. Thanks. Call Tyson at (778) 871-7817 or email Juskatla@gmail.com Skiff wanted.
