Prototyping Ideas and design Properties of an Inflatable - able to expand depending on the amount of air inside the cavity - ability to take up space
When deflated, the material seems to feel like a fabric Happy
Neutral
Angry/ Sad
Design: An inflatable that can be worned as a poncho when deflated. Whenever the user feels the need for having their own personal space, they can inflate the inflatable
Physical
Emotion
Happy = closer distance Neutral= moderate distance Sad/Angry= further distance
Problems from the first prototype Over inflate - Material is too light
Fixing the problem Aesthetic
Not constructed well, - Able to strangle the user Poor aesthetic - Look too much like a cloud/balloon
Incorporate the ‘quilting’ or ‘tubular-like’ pattern into our design to prevent the inflatable from inflating into a balloon.
Can be achieve by creating pleats onto the fabric
Materials
Properties of materials/ fabric needed: - does not allow a large amount of fabric to pass through it - Waterproof - made from synthetic materials - Heavier than the garbage bag’s material
Shot Taffeta 55% nylon, 45% polyester
Party Satin 100% Polyester Stretch weave suiting 100% Polyester
Table Cloth 100% Polyethelyne
Rhino

Creating seams/ Joining
Welding - can give a good seam - Seam can break apart easily if not welded properly - can’t create the pleated pattern Taping - Easy - Not a very strong and durable (can be peeled off) - does not look pretty - can’t create the pleated pattern
Sewing - gives a good seam - Seam can be messy - Able to create the pleating pattern
Creating and assembling process
Sewing the inflatable
Fan
Assembling the fan together r with the inflatable
