With nearly four decades of experience in space systems engineering, Professor Underwood has been at the forefront of small satellite missions, specializing in mission analysis, groundstation development, thermal design, and radiation effects analysis. In this captivating presentation, Professor Underwood will explore the evolution of satellite technology, from the early days of large, expensive vehicles to the cutting-edge nano-satellites of today. He will share insights from his extensive work on the University of Surrey’s pioneering UoSAT programme and discuss the groundbreaking SNAP-1 mission, which demonstrated remote inspection and autonomous orbital manoeuvring.

MUN is a role-playing activity, in which pupils assume the roles of delegates representing various countries in the committees of the United Nations tasked with solving a range of global issues through research, lobbying, and debate.
