The most important challenges that we face in the 21st century will require a scientifically literate global population. In order to solve these problems we recognise as STEM educators that we need to fundamentally change our approach to science education. This was recently recognised by The Institute of Engineering and Technology in a report published in 2021 that found 89% of STEM businesses had difficulty hiring staff with the required skills, resulting in a shortage of over 173,000 workers. The Haileybury CubeSat programme is a unique opportunity for our pupils to gain the skills that the UK aerospace industry so badly needs and will enable them to stand out amongst their peers. Our pupils will flourish under the guidance of experts from BAE Systems and we believe they will inherit the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly STEM-demanding world.
