Lighting The lighting in the hall should be as dark as possible. The musicians should use stand lights if necessary.

Program Notes The piece is based on the poem Beyond the Silver Pit by British poet Adelle Stripe. Using archival research and her own family history, Stripe has created a narrative poem in ten parts that reveals the story of her great great great grandfather, Matthew Gains Mudd, who was lost at sea on Dogger Bank in the great storm of December 1894. The poem can be heard online, read by Russ Litten: https://soundcloud.com/adellestripe/beyond-the-silver-pit/s-FeUi0 A second movement to this piece will be composed in collaboration with the poet and the arts-led production company Curated Place in Manchester, and is anticipated to be premiered in Hull, the UK City of Culture 2017.
