Hampton Hall Club has been certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Golf Course since January 2013. Audubon
International’s certification process is quite complex, requiring various projects to enhance the environment for wildlife as well as a lengthy application. Hampton Hall is one of only 24 golf courses in the state with this certification.
Our main Audubon certification project on the golf course and in the community was installing wood duck and bluebird boxes. The 40 bluebird boxes fill up with birds every year and the 27 wood duck boxes typically house a few ducklings as well. The certification process also requires the club to establish a Resource Advisory Group. Members of the advisory group help identify potential wildlife projects to help keep our course certified, perform a bird count every year, maintain bird and duck boxes, and are teachers of good environmental stewardship.
Annette Hausman and I currently serve on the Resource Advisory Group and we are in search of additional volunteers. Please consider joining us. If you are a bird lover and enjoy our Lowcountry environment, you will enjoy it!
