World Citizen
Why AIESEC? As the world’s largest student run organisation, we know exactly what students want. We are students too, Who better to facilitate your exchange? The process of going on exchange is completely managed by a fellow student who has dedicated time to developing themselves through the AIESEC program. This means while you’re going through exchange processes such as project management or service delivery, these services are carried out by the members of the organization. In choosing AIESEC you’re not only developing yourself, but also the students facilitating this for you. What’s more is that you could be funnelling your money, upwards of R20 000 into other exchange agencies. But AIESEC programs are far cheaper and open up to a diverse network of like minded young people.

Cost Breakdown Our exchange fee is R3999 per person and deadline for full payment is June 1. AIESEC is run as a non-profit organisation and our main source of income is volunteer fees so without charging a fee we would not be able to exist. Volunteer fee levels are set to match costs. We charge a fee to volunteers for all our placements in order to pay the costs of running our organisation. We keep the fees as low as we can but we have to ensure that we can provide the level of support that we promise. The exchange fee goes towards: • Maintaining our AIESEC Opportunities Portal • Stipend for our National Team comprised of 7 internationals working full-time • Our operational costs such as governance and administration, marketing, insurance and legal, etc. • Accommodation in Botswana, transportation to and from Botswana included. Please note that Botswana is visa-free for South African citizens only for 90 days.

Matthias’ exchange st ory Dumela! My name is Matthias, I am 22 years and study English and History at the University of Cologne in Germany. I felt welcomed here from the first day on. It has been very easy to deal with this new culture because it is very open compared to my culture which is a little bit more distanced. During the time here I have been very well supported from all sites; from AIESEC, at school, from my neighbor, and most of the time from people in public if I needed help finding my way. Of course the nature here is awesome. All of the Big Five animals are living here. I did not manage to see all of them but still I have seen quite a lot of the nature and the animals of this country. I hope that I can come back one day and experience the rest of the country I have not seen yet, especially the Okavango. I did my internship at a preschool in Kanye, which is about 100km away from the capital Gaborone, and I enjoyed the teaching there as well. Even if the conditions cannot be compared to Germany, 44 students in my class, no blackboards, more than 80 students in two classes and usually only two teachers who have to do the cooking, organizing and everything else that comes up when you have to care for children in the age between two and six years. During my time there we have been four teachers because there has been another intern from Botswana. All in all I enjoyed my stay very much and I do recommend this sadly quite unknown country.
