Why AIESEC? As the world’s largest student run organisation, we know exactly what students want. We are students too, Who better to facilitate your exchange? The process of going on exchange is completely managed by a fellow student who has dedicated time to developing themselves through the AIESEC program. This means while you’re going through exchange processes such as project management or service delivery, these services are carried out by the members of the organization. In choosing AIESEC you’re not only developing yourself, but also the students facilitating this for you. What’s more is that you could be funnelling your money, upwards of R20 000 into other exchange agencies. But AIESEC programs are far cheaper and open up to a diverse network of like minded young people.

Cost Breakdown Our exchange fee is R2000 per person per exchange. AIESEC is run as a non-profit organisation and our main source of income is volunteer fees so without charging a fee we would not be able to exist. Volunteer fee levels are set to match costs. We charge a fee to volunteers for all our placements in order to the costs of running our organisation. We keep the fees as low as we can but we have to ensure that we can provide the level of support that we promise. The exchange fee goes towards: • Maintaining our AIESEC Opportunities Portal • Stipend for our National Team comprised of 7 internationals working full-time • Our operational costs such as governance and administration, marketing, insurance and legal, etc. • Our Local Commitees that also have operational costs such as marketing, administration, etc. Please note that AIESEC will NOT be paying for your visa fees or flight to the country.

Bevani’s exchange sto ry On an impulse, I decided to spend 7 weeks in Mauritius. I had no idea what to expect, I wasn’t going because of some grand plan, with set expectations or any notion of what I wanted to achieve. I knew that I wanted an experience. I wanted to do something valuable. I wanted to see the world. The 7 weeks that followed my tearful goodbye with family and friends were some of the most incredible of my life. The experience was a culmination of feeling fulfilled, meeting diverse people with unique stories and going on some of the most indescribable adventures. It was a whirlwind of learning and growing, not only about myself and my limits; but about other people and my ability to influence the world around me. My experience may have been a tiny drop in the ocean of change happening around the world, but it was something. I talked to people and changed their lives and perceptions in whatever small way I could. The work was rewarding; especially because we needed to overcome the barriers of working with kids that did not speak English. Finding a way to connect with the local population was a learning experience in itself, but we also got to understand the realities of the country. Above and beyond learning about Mauritius, I was able to truly live as a global citizen. It was in the moment when I walked into the living room and every one of my 12 housemates was calling home and speaking a different language that I truly realized what a unique experience this was.
