Over the course of this project, I was given a pre-existing column from the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. The objective of this project was to transform the column into an inhabitable space through a series of operations such as: bending, splitting and repeating. The end result was a place of meditation and reflection that connects the user to nature and their environment. The first stage of the project focused on creating space from the column. The second stage focused unifying the space by adding enclosure. The third stage added horizontal and vertical circulation to the space and the last stage focused on adding structural support. The building was created by repeating, mirroring and rotating different elements of the original column. Each piece you see in the final structure was created from a part of the original column. There are three levels to the building and as you ascend, the spaces become more private and enclosed.
