Week 16- Sketch up

Importing an image -file -import -import the image (studio plan) If you can’t find the image, make sure you change the file type, probably under Jpeg. To Scale: - Use the tape measure tool from the 0 point to the 100 point - Click one - Type in 100,000

When using components if you change one, the rest will change as well. -To only change one RIGHT CLICK, MAKE UNIQUE. Image Textures- Curved textures -import as texture -right click -texture -projected -paste with drop clicker

Week 17- EPP Sketch Up

Intersecting Faces • • • • • •

You cannot push up a circle out of a cylinder shape You have to make the sections separately Place the circle on the other object Select all Right click- intersect faces Select the sections going through and delete

For more complex designs you will need to make a group, expand the group and then intersect faces.

Another way of doing this: • • • •

Open solid tools tool bar This is called boleem This works best with minimal and simples shapes With no internal lines

LAYOUT • • • • • • • • •

Save work View- animation- add scene Set views Scenes Change camera to parallel projection mode Save view Update Save Send to layout button under file

To import to CAD • • • • •

Change the raster to a vector (sketch up model- view- vector) Change style (style- default styles- hidden line) this changes into a line drawing File export- dwg file Auto cad- layout Model space

Week 18 Creating a landscape. Add Sandbox toolbar

Use the scratch tool to create a grid, 3000mm grid spacing

Then use the smoove tool to create the lumps and bumps of a landscape

Creating a contour landscape • • • • •

Draw a rectangle Use the freehand tool to create the contour lines Delete the inner section so you are just left with lines Separate the contour lines by using the move tool on the blue axis. (tip- use the up arrow to stay on blue axis) Then select all and click the contour button

Using the stamp tool • •

Draw the shape you want above your hill grid (the first one we made) Use the stamp tool to combine the two, can create steep ridges

The drape tool • • • •

Start by drawing a rectangle and drag it over your landscape Use the freehand tool to draw the shape of your river Then delete the areas surrounding your river shape in that rectangle Then use the drape tool and drag down to create your river.

Use these tools and the ones you have learnt to create a Victorian folly to place on your landscape

Importing Trees • • • • • •

Google search for a PNG tree Go to settings Advanced search Select file- PNG file Save image, make sure the image has a transparent background On sketch up, import image, file type-PNG file

• • • •

To make the tree as a ‘face me’ image Explode the image Turn the image back into a component When doing this make sure you press always face camera

Digital Practice- Summative skills audit Throughout this module I have learnt an array of different digital skills which have then in turn helped me develop my ideas for the design modules. Here is a list of just some of the skills I have learnt: • • • • • • •

Saving work effectively and as a PDF How to minimise PDF files A range of different keyboard shortcuts How to turn on and off the IDLE timer Publishing work online through ISSU Creating a Title page in Photoshop Creating a Wix website

AutoCAD • • • • • • •

Orthographic and OSNAP tool Trim tool Offsetting a line Fillet tool Using layers How to put on dimensions Isometric drawing using AutoCAD

SketchUp • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Drawing simple shapes Creating groups Manipulating shapes such as using the push pull tool Creating a house Creating a figure Multiple copying Scale tool Creating a spiral staircase Importing an image Image texture on a curved surface Intersecting faces Layout How to import the drawing into AutoCAD Creating a landscape Importing trees ‘face me’ images

Achievements: In summary this module has taught me a range of skills which has enabled me to create more complex shapes and to combine these skills to show a well-developed design. By being able to create a 3D model of my design it enables me to be more creative and explore different ideas. Improvements: I believe I need to improve these skills by practice. However, there are a few skills specifically I need to improve. These include: Using Sketchup to add texture to and manipulating curved surfaces. I would also like to improve my intersecting faces skills and creating a landscape. I hope to be able to create more realistic visuals to represent my designs.
