Context Oh Deer is an online collective of illustrators designing products to sell both online and in selected retailers. They have been up and running since 2011 and have been going strong ever since. From a small handful they now work with 35 illustrators over a number of different countries. They are a primarily illustrators as they believe that some forms of art are alienating, illustration is art for everyone! Oh Deer aims to bring you quirky illustrated products, with the creators themselves getting a direct cut of the products.

Brief or Tasks This is a quick turn around brief that simply requires me to create 1 design (minimum) to send into Oh Deer as part of their Pillow fight competition. There are no visual requirements, any design is accepted and the designs are judged based on the popularity of the cushion and how many are sold. The 4 Winners will have their work produced on faux suede cushions. They will be sold in Ohh Deer’s stockists (including the Saatchi shop, Tate Modern and the Millennium Gallery) and online store. The (winning) artwork remains the property of the artist, and it is licensed unexclusively to Ohh Deer for the use on cushions with the view to more formats. Previous winners have become contributors. Deadline: 25th of Sept (Midnight) Artwork Size: 45cm x 45cm 300dpi Colours: No Limit File Types: You won’t be asked for the final artwork initially, just the templated image which should be a JPEG or a PNG and 530px x 530px winners will be asked to provide a layered PDF. Work submitted earlier than the deadline will be uploaded onto the competition section so people can see it, like it, retweet it etc. We will take the popularity into consideration, but ultimately we will select work that we think best fits the brand. The winners will be selected shortly after the deadline and all work sent in an incorrect format won’t be uploaded. It is a maximum of 2 entries per person. Time allocated: 1 day Deadline: 4th November 2013

Preparation/Research suggestions The competition is open so it will be hard to research into a specific theme. However, in order to increase my chances I can research into the current submissions for the competition already, and the past competitions to see which ones have been successful. It could also increase my chances to look at current ‘trends’ in terms of interiors. Although this is something that I usually steer clear from it can only increase my chances of the cushion being bought, and getting the design printed.

Evidence – for this project students should submit The submission or the competition is the simple. An artwork size of 45 cm x 45 cm at 300 dpi needs to be submitted. The initial file format should bejpeg or png and 530 px x 530 px.
