Context Print Club London is a London based print studio, focussing on the availability for printing processes, such as screen printing of all. They are a teaching facility which also has it’s own studio producing limited edition prints and printed ephemera. Their Millers Junction studio contains 30 illustrators and designers who are individual freelancers and part of small collectives. This years Blisters sound session exhibition has been based on the previous years successes of the Secret Blisters and Blisters on my fingers. The exhibition itself will be the fifth held my Print Club London and will be held on the 12th, 13th and 14th of September 2014.
Brief or Tasks The brief is set by Print Club London as part of their ‘Blisters sound sessions’ and requires the designer to design and produce a poster. The completed piece must be distinct to your own style and be inspired by your favourite band/song/musician/tour/gig. However, there are restrictions in the design as the artists/bands name, song or musician must not be used. Typography and imagery can be used but any image created must be stand-alone and cannot be supported as part of a series or require an explanation. The artwork itself needs to be prepared for print in a B2 format of 500mm x 700 mm. the work must be completely new and original with a never seen before project. This is essential and submissions displayed anywhere else, including personal blogs and portfolio will not be accepted. Time allocated: 2 days to design 2 days to screen print Official Deadline; March 31st 2014
Preparation/Research suggestions Research into suitable visual styles will need to be undertaken as well as careful consideration into appropriate imagery and typography associated with the chosen song. A look at previous winning submissions would also be beneficial to understand what factors make the pieces a winning print to apply these to my own designs.
Evidence – for this project students should submit The poster design itself as well as accompanying development. This is a short turnaround brief that requires no extension. Perhaps an accompanying poster of the artists name could be submitted but this isn’t essential.
