Context Village bookstore is an art book store, gallery and publishing house located in the exchange, Leeds. As well as their selection of contemporary artist books and creative magazines they also sell self-published zines from independent artists and publishers. They are produced using a range of printing methods including risograph, digital and screen printing etc.

Brief or Tasks The brief is to create a zine to be sold in Village bookstore. The zine must generate a positive response in the consumer, be mainly illustrative and be A5 in size. Instead of informing customers of why they should be happy I will tell them how things in their life could be worse in the form of monochrome hand drawn type and illustrations, by showing them in s light hearted, humorous tone of voice other possible scenarios. Time allocated: 2 weeks

Preparation/Research suggestions Research into the best processes used for printing zines, this could be screen printing and digital printing etc. Also, look at the current zines available in Village bookstore to understand what the niche target audience who visit the store are prepared to pay for. Lastly, gaining inspiration from exiting illustrators will be beneficial when designing.

Evidence – for this project students should submit A final A5 screen printed zine, bound and covered ready for sale.
