Welcome back Happy Munkey Fam to the September installment of Munkey Munchies! This month I am overjoyed to share with you one of New York’s most illustrious cannabis dining experiences, The 99th Floor. Curated by none other than star chef and fellow Dominican Miguel Trinidad and his partner Doug Cohen, the 99th Floor has been elevating cannabis consumption experiences for foodies and canna-enthusiasts alike.

On a drizzly night, Danielle and I got dressed up and headed into Williamsburg for what we knew was about to be next-level night. We arrived a little late to the sent address and it was an entire restaurant closed off for the 99th Floor Dinner Party. On the walk-in, after having checked in and our Vax cards checked, we were seamlessly handed cocktails and ushered to the main dining space. On the tables were name cards with a wax seal, which 1) removed the awkwardness of picking where to sit, and 2) was some high-class shit for a dinner party (cannabis-infused or not!).

Our timing ended up being perfect, within 3 minutes of us getting situated at our table Chef Migs came out of the kitchen and gave his opening remarks to formally kick off the experience. In his speech he highlighted that the entire dinner was curated around a specific “Strain of the Night”, which lucky for us was one of my favorites, Wedding Cake. Taking the intention one step further Chef Migs explained that the dinner was going to be an edible cannabis journey guided by Wedding Cake’s unique terpene profile. Additionally, the entire 99th Floor experience was conceived as a rebuttal to the all too common occurrence of edible experiences that were way too intense for the consumer. So instead of a THC macro-dosed dinner, The 99th Floor masterfully puts together 5 courses totaling only 25mg for the entire meal. While I’m not normally used to eating weed and it not being a knockout, I was hype to get eating!

The 1st course was an insanely tasty and infused amuse bouche: Potato Coin stuffed with bacalao mantecato & a pea emulsion… yes you read that right, Chef Migs is really out here doing it big fancy with these cannabis dinners. I am not going to lie for the 2nd course I spaced on writing down exactly what chef Migs described the dish as (because I was high). But in short, it was a refreshing summer salad with a dressing so delectable I saw multiple people tipping their bowls over to drink the last drops of it. The 3rd course was Pulpo a la plancha with a white bean puree, lardoons, salsa verde, and infused chili oil. Each bite paired the char of the octopus and the accompanying sauces to perfection.

Before the next course was served we snuck out for a little smoke break to kick start the THC metabolizing in our systems. As we skipped back to our table, the servers had just placed the 4th course, duck breast topped with honey (infused with Wedding Cake and OG Kush) on a bed of Polenta made with cannabis butter. Elevated from the meal and our quick smoke break, the duck and polenta blend melted so effortlessly my jaw clenched from the mouth-watering flavor! The last course of the dinner was a dessert that flawlessly consisted of caramelized milk chocolate, chocolate sable, candied cocoa nibs, espresso, & whipped cream all curated by a guest pastry chef Torkster Vee. The icing on the cake was a to-go case of 100mg THC-infused hard candies to keep the cannabis party going or to kick start it another day!

All in all the dinner was nothing short of cannabis perfection. The entire night, conversations were flowing and happy people were enjoying their time out! No question some Dominican hospitality sneaks into the vibe and energy of the space, coupled with the attentive wait staff, the house was on point all dinner. True compliments to the chef and kitchen staff! My hat is off to the level of excellence, class, and progress that is being delivered during these dinner parties. Happy Munkey prides itself on pushing the cannabis needle forward more mainstream, and Real truly recognizes Real when it comes to what the 99th Floor is putting together!
