SEASON

Depending on snow and weather conditions, the season will vary from year to year. 15.06-15.09 Recommended season (average year). 16.09-28.10 Recommended with a guide only. 29.10-16.02 NOT recommended, highly dangerous. 17.02-14.06 Recommended with a guide only (snowshoes/skis).

ABOUT HIKING TO TROLLTUNGA

• The trail starts in Skjeggedal, 7 km from Tyssedal. • This is a demanding hike. 28 km in total, minimum 10-12 hours. Ascent about 1200 meters. • The start is a steep 400 meter ascent. • Start early in the morning. After 1 September, start before 8:00 AM. • The weather in the high mountains may change fast. Check the weather forecast before starting. Do not hike to Trolltunga in heavy rain or in foggy weather. • It is always colder in the mountains than down by the fjord. • Intermittent mobile phone coverage along the trail (Telenor). • The nature is vulnerable, and camping is not recommended. Bring an emergency bivvy in case of bad weather or injuries. • The hike to Trolltunga is long and demanding and unforeseen situations may arise. Because of this, it is recommended to hike with a local guide.

BRING WITH YOU ON THE HIKE

• Sturdy mountain boots, warm clothing and rainwear, an emergency bivvy, plenty to eat and drink, a headlamp and a simple first aid kit. • Bring back all garbage.

Norwegian Scenic Routes in Hardanger The Norwegian Scenic Routes comprise 18 selected motoring trips through majestic natural surroundings in Norway. Viewing points and rest areas have been created along the routes employing innovative architecture and thought-provoking works of art that reinforce the experience of the beautiful landscape. All of the 18 routes, from JĂŚren in the south to Varanger and in the north, have their own unique character in terms of the roads, the natural surroundings and history. Norwegian Scenic Routes Hardanger and Norwegian Scenic Route Hardangervidda transport us back to sceneries and landscapes associated with national romanticism. Here you can experience mountains, fjords, waterfalls and glaciers around valleys of fruit orchards. Along the tourist routes, there are places where you can stop to enjoy a meal, go for a swim, try your hand as an angler or just enjoy the view and the silence. nasjonaleturistveger.no/en
