Editor’s Notes

T

he HHH event of the year takes place this month when 2,700 hashers from 69 countries converge in Brussels for what may be the greatest celebration of beer culture outside of Oktoberfest. Higgins and his team of co-conspirators welcome you to Beer Paradise, and to the multitude of Pre & Post Lube events that make Europe the place to be this summer. Jump a plane, board a boat, or hop a train…and meet us in Brussels. On the other side of the pond, USA Nash Hash heads to… Indyscent, Indiana. Put that peddle to the metal, and burn some rubber on the Indianapolis Speedway. Take the French Lick Exit for some Indyscent fun at Camp Camocooch. If radical self expression in a community like no other is your cup of ambrosia, head to Black Rock City, Nevada for Burning Man 2014. Can The 10 Principles of Burning Man be applied to hashing? You are the non-judgmental judge and the jury on this one. Miss Saigon has given birth to not one, but several new kennels of late. But wait….

there’s still time to head to the city that bears Uncle Ho’s name to celebrate 24 years of hashing in Saigon this September. If you are one of the lucky 300 who registered for Indochina Mekong Hash 2014, we’ll see you in Chiang Rai. This event sold out faster than popsicles on a hot afternoon. Be sure to register early for the next IMH in….Myanmar! Those who attended the last IMH in Yangon know that this is as good as it gets. Pick your events, plan your hash holidays, and register early so you can enjoy the treks and camaraderie of like-minded Hash House Harriers across the planet. The monthly digital editions of Harrier Magazine can help keep you up to date on HHH events around the world. Subscribe now for less than a dollar month and stay informed. I hope to see you on trail soon or for a frosty brew or two after the run. elcome to Brussels! Almost 3000 hashers will be descending on the European capital at the end of this month for Brussels 2014, a Beer Odyssey. Higgins and the committee are working non-stop to bring the hash world a one of a kind event, with a variety of Belgian Beer, European wine, International cuisine, and of course, trails in the forests, cities and countryside. There will be 27,000 litres of beer in the form of tankers and cans. The countdown has begun! The following is some information from locals that will help the reader enjoy Brussels and the Beer Odyssey to its fullest.

Welcome to Brussels! 10 Harrier

Belgium is a rather small country with a population of 10 million people. It is split into two parts: Flanders, where they speak Flemish, similar to Dutch, and Wallonia, birthplace of Higgins, where they speak French (There is also a small section of German speakers.). Brussels is a combination of all of the Belgian cultures, plus it is one of the most international cities in the world. With 27% of its population originating from countries other than Belgium, it is truly the capital of Europe. Don’t be confused with the long names on the street signs, as they are in 2 languages, French and Flemish.

Grand Place

Brussels dates back to the 13th century, and much of it was virtually untouched by war. The Grand Place is probably the most impressive town square in Europe, if not the world. Visit Brussels is an excellent guide to the city. Check out their top 10 attractions: http://visitbrussels.be. Brussels is a warm and welcoming city, yet beware of pickpockets.

nce a year, during the last week of August and culminating on Labor Day, tens of thousands of participants gather in Nevada’s desert to create a community dedicated to art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They call it Black Rock City (BRC) and depart one week later; having left no trace whatsoever.

Saigon Hash Has a New Baby!

T

he Saigon Hash has never been for the faint hearted. Whilst being politely called “vibrant” in refined circles it is known in others as the most politically incorrect of all. And its female members are renowned for giving as good as they get – and they get plenty!

But hashing on a Sunday wasn’t enough for the female contingent – they wanted to run their own show – and yet another excuse to get lashed on a Friday night. And so launched over a few buckets of frozen margaritas – and honed at some all you can drink pot luck suppers - the Saigon Hash House Harriettes F3 was born with the avowed intention to run and walk on the first Friday of each month – somewhere central in sultry and sensual old Saigon. Nice girls all - including Head Mistress, Runny Yolk, Maple Muff, Safe Sex, Phuc My 2, Inflight Service, Down Underwear, Cunning Lingus, Good Lay, Muyumi Vice, Happy Flasher, Tall Red, Bar Bitch and Monk Molester (aka Mary Poppins when she is good) -formed the Mismanagement Committee and the date of the inaugural run/walk was fixed for Friday 4 April 2014.
