by Julie “Yark Sucker” Burgess & Larry “Big Bore” Maxwell Photos by Alan Winter Haacht Brewery: Haacht Brewery is the Brussels 2014, A Beer Odyssey Brewery. The Brewery located in Haacht, is the largest family owned brewery is Belgium, brewing since 1898, and now producing 7,200 Hectolitres per year. At the evening venue, Primus, a pilsner, similar to Stella Artois, yet better, will be served from a 5,000 litre tanker. There will be a second truck containing 9 tanks with 1,000 litres each. In an earlier article, we mentioned the Tongerlo Blond and Brown Abbey beers. These, along with White by Mystic and Charles V Ruby Red will be served in 1,000 litre tanks. On Sunday, there will be a beer university where, if one is sober enough, beer lovers may be able to find the other beers that Haacht has to offer. As Brussels 2014, A Beer Odyssey is an environmentally friendly weekend, Haacht is a good fit. The waste water from the brewing process is organically purified, and the resulting sediment is used by local farmers to improve their soil quality. Haacht has installed solar panels to produce 30,000 kW-h of clean energy every year.

The New THai Nash Hash 20 Harrier
T
hai Nash hash 2014 has concluded and I am happy to report this was a well run event that went off without a hitch as far as I could tell. This is no surprise as anyone who has hashed in Pattaya knows the hash
clubs there have a wealth of experience in organizing events going way back to the interhash they hosted in 1986. If any of you are saying: “what about PanAsia last year? Wasn’t that a fuckup?” Yep, it certainly was, but the Pattaya hash clubs weren’t associated with it. That was the malacca monkey hash in Malaysia and one person in particular, Rasputin, who in my opinion should be banned for life from the hash. In fact, one of the reasons Pattaya hosted the Thai Nash hash was to remove any stigma about Pattaya hashers and their ability to organize a quality hash event. So let’s review this event in more detail so that other hash clubs organizing an event can learn how to do it right.

s you are flying across our great country, gazing out the window at what you enjoy calling Flyover Country, a.k.a. Kansas, just know that you are probably missing some remarkable hashing experiences. Kansas boasts five kennels but only one is the famous Tornado Alley Hash House Harriers. No, you won’t find any mountains, alligator-infested swamps, or ocean beaches to run by, but there are plenty of woods, creeks, rivers, lakes and fields to provide a variety of shiggy.

O
n January 24, 1935, shoppers in Richmond, Virginia, had the opportunity to do something novel. They were able to purchase beer in cans for the first time. Brewing firms were none too certain that the public would buy canned beer. American Can Co. had to offer to install canning equipment for the test marketing and remove it again for free – should cans prove a failure – before Gottfried Kreuger Brewing of Newark, New Jersey, would agree to put their beer in cans.
