Editor’s Notes Like St. Paddy’s Day in March, Cinco de Mayo gives us another reason to celebrate - this month with cerveza, tequila and margaritas.

Hashers will celebrate the merry month of May at Pan Africa Hash in Lagos and at Philippines Nash Hash in Cebu. Africa correspondent Head Mistress offers a convincing preview of why we should hightail it to Lagos for what is likely to be the Dark Continent’s event of the year. San Miguel Beer will flow freely from 19-21 May in Cebu for PI Nash Hash according to Disco Dick, who ought to know by virtue of his vast experience as a San Miguel Connoisseur Extraordinaire.

ome would say that a good lesson to keep in mind when travel hashing is plain and simple: Keep your expectations low! Imagine if you will, a couple of San Diego hashers traveling outside their beloved hash community for the first time. Leaving their sandy beaches and sunshine to venture up to the Pacific Northwest ... in February. So there they were (fan-tastic, in-credible, holy ‌.), Creepy Cock Porker and Rush Hour Rubdown in Seattle to explore a new hash culture and experience how the rainy city gets down with their Red Dress Run. So of course there were some unknowns: How cold would it be? And would it rain the entire time they were on trail? Would there be a Yeti? Do they serve Fireball at drink checks (nobody likes that)? You get the picture.

he Budapest Hash meets every Sunday, 11:30 AM at Batthyany Square, on the Buda side of the Danube river. This meeting point, on the upper riverbank parapet wall, directly above a M2 Metro line stop, is directly across the river, from the very picturesque Hungarian Parliament Building.

Early Sunday morning 26 March, Hungary and other parts of Europe converted to daylight saving time, by moving their clocks forward one hour. Possibly as a result of this, by 12 noon only 6 hashers had gathered for this Sunday hash. The assumption was made that other regulars may have failed to adjust their clocks or had possibly overindulged during or after watching the Saturday night soccer match between Hungary and Portugal. Unfortunately, the final score was not in Hungary’s favor.

s a schoolboy philatelist, I was familiar with the names of the four States which formed the Federated States of Malaya, as each State issued its own postage stamp, usually with the picture of the Sultan. There was, of course, the British Resident to oversee. The first British Resident in Perak, J.W.W. Birch was apparently inept in British diplomacy (read duplicity) and had to lose his life in the hands of the then Maharaja named Lela. Even today, a small monument dedicated to the incident stands ‘in a little village beside a slow river’ Ipoh, the capital of Perak, as elsewhere in Malaysia, has many keen hashers. The Ipoh chapter has the maximum number of registrants for IH2002 Goa. As such, as an IH Committee Member, I was interested in doing a run there and meeting them. When I expressed my desire to some of them in Langkawi, Murugan “MGR – M.G. Ramachandran”, GM of Selama H3, offered me the hospitality of his bungalow in a rubber and palm oil plantation in Ipoh, and to take me to their run on Tuesday.

This day suited me very well. So, I took a bus South on Monday from Butterworth to Ipoh and he met me at the bus station.

It later transpired that Selama is a district town near the Perak/Kedah border, 100 km away from Ipoh. Murugan has been the GM of SH3 for the last nine years. He is also the Asstt. Treasurer at the Malaysian Hash Council. He became GM when he was posted as the Manager of an estate near Selama, and has continued to be re-elected even though he is now living so far. He travels every Tuesday afternoon to the run. Orang gila, lah – mad guy.

fter far too many Tsingdaos and Margaritas at the famed Mexican Wave in Beijing, Rick “Ratchucker” Head of the Beijing Hash suggested their upcoming 1,000th run be the Nash Hash to encourage participation from across China. An email was dispatched to Doug “White Trash” Barrett in Shanghai and John “Roomboy” Malins in Chengdu, and so the word was spread and the All China Nash Hash was born.
