HARRIER MAGAZINE EDITOR JIM EDENS. November days get shorter while the nights get colder and longer in the Northern Hemisphere. Snow bunnies with an iron constitution head to Helsinki for the sub-zero, clothing optional Hole in the Ice Hash. Survival gear, including a flask of your favorite schnapps is definitely recommended for those hardy souls who brave the elements to submerge themselves in the infamous Hole in the Ice. Those of us with a healthy aversion to cold can head to the south-central Texas town of San Antonio for the Underground Hash where temperatures can top 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius in the shade. They say there is nothing as good as a cold beer on a hot day, and San Antonio is out to prove that this is more than just a cliché. If the Southeast Asian tropics are more your cup of tea, say Good Morning Vietnam
at the 150th running of the Nha Trang Hash House Harriers on December 5th. Having visited Nha Trang for the Vietnam Nash Hash, as well as their inaugural run in 2013, I must agree with Dingo Dave who dubs Nha Trang as one of the most Hashworthy cities in all of Southeast Asia. Every summer we can rent a cottage on the Isle of Wight if it’s not too dear, We shall scrimp and save. Grandchildren on your knee, Vera, Chuck and Dave. -The Beatles, When I’m 64 Confessions of a young runner who finds herself surrounded by hashers in the Great North-South R#n on the Isle of Wight. Next time she might even sample a pint or two at one of the tavern stops along the scenic course. Enjoy sublimely irreverent Hash Humor with John Denny’s Stockholm Absolut Hash Trash, and Nut & Honey’s Adventures of Hash Boy. With scores of great events coming up in the months ahead, I hope to see you on trail soon. On On Forever, Jim Edens, Editor-in-Chief & Founder Harrier Magazine - Fun on the run since 2002 International Edition with readers in 50 US states & 100 countries www.HarrierMagazine.com

he Fins are not known for their conversation, yet they are well known for their saunas. It is deeply entrenched in their culture. Adjacent to the sauna, one might find a carefully crafted hole in the ice. Imagine hashing through a winter wonderland of deep snow whilst drinking bizarre Finnish liquorish schnapps, jumping in the icy cold water and then running very quickly to the sauna. After the sauna, there is a big fire where the dinner is prepared. This very unique hash event is hosted by the Helsinki Hash House Hashers and Harriettes on 11-13 March. On Friday, the hashers gather for some beers in central Helsinki waiting for the party bus to take them with wilderness. This year, they will venture to Kotoranta, Kiljava to find The Hole in The Ice. (Note that there is strict sauna etiquette in Finland. Only hashers capable of following the etiquette are welcome.) http://hiti.harrier.ch.

nce a year I visit San Antonio Hash for their Friday night; normally in the summer when the temperatures are in the 100’s F (that’s hot …. And something near 40 C for Mexicans or others using the metric system!). Normally the runs are fairly short and designed for drinkers with a running in the heat problem – one had countless shot and beer stops.

Hashing in Nha Trang More crabs than a seafood buffet

Hundreds have tried.
only a handful have died. We have only found 1 unexploded bomb in 3 years, and that was in a tree!

eer is so much more than a breakfast drink. It is one of world’s great social lubricants and the catalyst of many a fine idea. So it was with Nha Trang Hash. Expats, Ah Shit (Madison H3, USA) and Dingo (Bayside H3, Australia) bumped into each other in a bar and within 2 beers had decided to form a hash. They were fortunate to have some other experienced hashers in town, and with Dosage, Good To The Last Drop, Panty Liner and Andy Capp there were enough old hands to form a mismanagement committee and Run #2 was set in Feb 2013. Using Hash accounting principles, Run #1 was held over for a couple of months until they had their act together and the NTH3 boat cruise tradition began.
