Our Objectives Ongoing Product Evaluation
Both clinical and laboratory products are used and analyzed by our team of evaluators. Findings are shared with manufacturers for product improvement and development. Variations in techniques are shared and information exchanged to benefit all parties whenever practical.
Program Evaluation and Development
Through written surveys and direct feedback from participants, we are constantly evaluating the needs of the market. Current feedback indicates shorter, more topic specific programs. We have found that both doctors and technicians prefer two to three day programs for maximum learning benefit, in addition to less time spent away from the office or lab. Technicians prefer practical case courses to learn and apply new skills on realistic cases. All participants favor a more casual environment with some down time to interact with other participants.
Speaker Development
An integral part of all programs held at the Center is the speaker/course evaluation by participants. Results from a list of multiple choice and short answer questions are tallied and supplied to the speaker and Center’s executive director for immediate performance review. The Center’s advisory board is made up of many professionals who are able to provide coaching on various aspects of professional presentations. We are able to offer consults and reviews in public speaking, writing, computer presentations.
To support he American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s “Give Back a Smile” program, the Center hosts its annual “Golf and Dentistry Retreat.” Student and Auxiliary Support
Each year the Center offers a Lunch-n-Learn day for dental technology students at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College. We also offer all dental students a generous discount on tuitions for courses held at the Center throughout the year.
Staff Support and Training
There are few areas in dentistry we can have a more direct and positive impact with doctors than staff training. This has become one of our highest priorities for the future. By facilitating communication and understanding of their practice objectives, as well as providing convenient, affordable classes for direct training, we are helping to make doctors more effective in their treatment. Group and private training is ongoing through the year. We also support the assistants and hygienists associations as they maintain their own respective education programs.
Study Club Support
Nearly a dozen regional study groups meet here at the Center throughout the year, including specialists, restorative groups, practice management, auxiliaries, technicians, implant groups, and more. It really is the nucleus for learning in the Mid-Atlantic part of the country.
Market Surveys
As part of our CERP certification, we conduct regular surveys to monitor market needs. This is done both through exit surveys following each course as well as an annual survey of prospective participants. Our current course schedule is a direct result of feedback from participants requesting shorter, more affordable, topic specific programs. Participant feedback is only valuable if you listen and respond. One of our greatest strengths is the ability to change and programs based on needs and results. We are here “to make a difference in dentistry.”
The Mid-Atlantic Center’s Annual Golf & Dentistry Retreat has become one of the most talked about events in dentistry. Held each year in early fall, the format includes three days of education, golf

and networking. Leading speakers in dentistry present power session updates each morning, then participants are off to play a different golf course each afternoon. Evenings are reserved for fellowship and review of the days’ events. This year our Golf & Dentistry Retreat is on September 16-18, 2010 and will head north to Kohler, Wisconsin to play the courses of Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run. Open, rugged and windswept terrain defines the walking-only, links-style Straits Course sculpted along two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. A masterpiece in the world of golf created by Pete Dye, Golf magazine listed the Straits #3 in the 2008 Top 100 Courses You Can Play ranking. The contrasting Blackwolf Run is no less challenging. Melded into a river basin, formed by the flows of a glacial runoff, Blackwolf Run was named “Best New Public Course” by Golf Digest magazine in 1988. It has continued to accumulate awards and honors including regular ranking on the list of “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses” by Golf Digest and the “Top 100 You Can Play” by GOLF Magazine.
