OUGD501: CoP 3 Proposal
To what extent does sustainability impact on the future of Graphic Design? Why this question? When looking at this question it prompted me to think about all the different social responsibilities I could link it to. The most prominent that I could think of being issues around the environment and sustainability. In our society I feel like the issue of climate change is sort of brushed under the rug most of the time. Especially with the government backing fracking for fossil fuels rather than investing more in cleaner energy supplies like wind or solar farms. I am passionate about this subject and feel like learning about the impacts of sustainability on the future of my practice would be hugely beneficial. After completing the essay for this year I realised that it wasn’t something that I enjoyed writing about unlike
last year when I really enjoyed learning about packaging. So this made me think that to do something related to packaging in my CoP 3 dissertation would be more beneficial to both my practice and my interests. To look into ways how packaging could help the environment would be very enlightening. Of course other areas of graphic design will most likely be effected by the issues of climate change and this is something I might explore. However I feel this will be all about the digitization of Graphic Design rather than creating more sustainable print media.
