DALTILE:
Outdoor Living Meets Design Freedom WITH NEW XTERIORS ALL-WEATHER TILE by Christy Heitger-Ewing 6 H AV E N
Just in time for spring, Daltile has four new amazing all-weather product solutions available from their Xteriors collection. These products range from pavers and complementary wall accents, to panoramic porcelain tiles, as well as a durable porcelain roofing tile. These new products give you the freedom to create stylish designs using coordinating products that are all outdoor rated. From the TREAD Porcelain Pavers to the VERTICALS Wall Complements, to the Panoramic Porcelain Surfaces for walls, floors, and countertops that are available in three selections: elemental, industrial, & metallic, the Xteriors collection offers just what you need for your outdoor space. “You know how some people have a lanai and it opens into the kitchen and they want all of that to seem like one space?” says Sandy Sipes, Daltile’s Showroom Designer. “You could do the pavers outside and go to the floor tile inside. Having that capability to switch between the two types of product within that same visual is pretty cool.” Let’s say you wanted to create an outside fireplace or bar area and make the back of the wall a complementary mosaic slat. You could start with a 2 cm paver to define the area, then use the wall tile and carry the same look to that feature wall or fireplace. “I wasn’t really interested in my outdoor space until I saw this,” says Sipes. “But when you see the pavers with the grass growing in between, it’s stunning.” Another new product to the Xteriors collection, Daltile offers Perennial Porcelain Roofing, ranked #1 out of the top 20 best new building products for 2020 by This Old House. Not only is it more durable than timber, clay, and slate roofing, it is also fire resistant and won’t fade or grow algae. Upgrade your outdoor space with these beautiful new products from Daltile. Visit their design gallery showroom in Fishers to see the array of new styles.

to Upgrade Your Home Entertainment Features by Courtney Walker Pope
When a national pandemic or shelter in place order happens again, will you be prepared? We don’t mean with an excess stock of paper towels and hand sanitizer. Although those items are important, will you be prepared with the audio and visual features that make your home a desirable place for month(s) at a time? Start making your list for local experts Digital Sight and Sound! “The time is now to make the plans for improvements. Make your home a joyful retreat, think strategically, if you need to stay at home for a week or two this coming fall or winter, what would you like to have in place for that event?” says Ray Rice, Owner of Digital Sight and Sound, as he puts on an outdoor concert for his nearby neighbors. Quite literally, he hired a professional musician to play guitar and sing for fellow neighbors all sitting around (ten plus feet apart) and enjoying the company and great tunes. “I’m exploring the strategy for my family’s home and encouraging others to do the same for their homes,” says Rice. We all likely have a list of desirable features and functions that would take our homes to the next level. Take some time now and contact Digital Sight and Sound to begin a custom audio and visual design for your home. DSS Indy can be reached at 317-848-0101 or dssindy.com.

STONE ARTISANS:
Designed to be the
Heart of the Home: Stone Elements Bring Warmth and Charm to the Kitchen Article and photos by Angela Jackson
Kitchens are where our stories are shared, laughter is spread, and delicious food prepared. For many people the kitchen is the heart of the home, where family and friends are always made to feel welcome. The Pratt family wanted a kitchen that was visually stunning, yet maintained that welcoming, heart of the home feel. With the help of Stone Artisans, the Pratt’s combined multiple textures with clean lines and colors that made for an impactful and complementary design that still feels warm and inviting. 1 0 H AV E N
The true appeal of this kitchen is in the continuity of colors, layered textures, and materials that finish the space with seamless design. The warm, woodsy tones in the beams and wood-paneled hutch fridge area, combined with the cool colors of the cabinets, neutral hues of the quartzite and kitchen accents, and a touch of iron from lighting fixtures and bar stools create a marriage of contemporary concept and old-world charm. The Pratts also chose quartzite with a suede finish for the countertops. This
slight texture of suede not only enhances the warmth of the space but its functionality as well. Stone Artisans recommends a suede or honed finish for quartzite and marble in kitchens. A matte finish on these surfaces is easier to maintain, keeping your countertop looking amazing for years. To lend a minimalistic appearance to the Pratt kitchen, Stone Artisans added a full-height backsplash, made from the same materials as the countertops. The look creates more fluidity throughout the room. Custom fabricated and installed quartzite shelves were also added in the prep bar area complete with inlaid under-shelf lighting to accent and highlight the stone and decor.
Elements like the balance of warm and cool tones, the slab backsplash, and layers of texture are key ingredients for contemporary and transitional kitchens – balancing modern form with traditional materials while adding timeless flair. The result for the Pratt family is a kitchen where everyone feels at home, in a room designed be the heart of the home and family. Learn more about adding texture and visual intrigue to your space with stone. Contact Stone Artisans by calling 317-874-8955 for guidance on your project and to schedule a consultation.

President’s Message Very few times in our history have Americans spent as much time in their homes than they are right now. However, even with mandated orders to selfquarantine and stay inside, homes are still selling in Indianapolis. With today’s technology, builders have been able to quickly transform their businesses to a virtual selling platform. Offering virtual appointments using Facetime or chat communication tools, communicating through Facebook Messenger, and offering 3D tours that allow you to virtually walk through a floor plan design are all ways new home builders continue to operate and stay open. While most builders and sales teams choose to

IS HOUSING RELEVANT ON THE HEELS OF COVID-19? With all the change and uncertainty happening in our world right now, it is understandable to think that a new home could be placed on the backburner. COVID-19 has turned our world and our industry upside down and caused us to reconsider our priorities and approach to the services we provide. However, despite such a time of transition, the demand for new homes remains steady.
After being confined in our homes for weeks on end, homeowners are more aware of their families’ needs and priorities than ever before. People have a better understanding of what they want in a home, and a new home can meet those needs. That homeowner awareness and steady demand, coupled with record low interest rates and the demonstration of industry adaptability, makes RIGHT NOW an incredible time to consider building a new home. Let’s explore some of those benefits:

LIFESTYLE, FUNCTIONALITY, & WELL-BEING A NEW HOME EQUALS A HEALTHY HOME
HOME OFFICE SPACE
At a time like this, who doesn’t want to live in a brand new, CLEAN home that has never been lived in?
Does anyone dislike their work from home space after all this? Between working from home and the kids needing space to do e-learning and schoolwork, the desire for more effective office space has become an increasingly larger priority for households.
Many smart home technologies that are being incorporated into new homes such as touchless controls on sinks, motion sensor lights, and voice commands, are all equipping you to be more handsfree (and touch less stuff)… Plus, new homes right now are often emphasizing more natural light as well as indoor-outdoor features that allow the homeowner to feel less confined in their home and more connected to the outside world.
OPEN, FLEXIBLE SPACE Many families are probably realizing how much they would appreciate more open spaces today after being confined to their existing homes for weeks on end. A new home can provide the solutions to your family’s ever-evolving needs and priorities.
SUPERSIZED PANTRIES
MULTI-GENERATIONAL LIVING This experience with COVID-19 has really put the focus back on families. While multigenerational housing has increased in popularity, we anticipate seeing this increase continue as families desire to help take care of aging grandparents, have a space for young children, teenagers, or even post-graduates moving back in.
LIFE DOESN’T STOP Aspects of our lives may have changed over the past two months, but life does not stop. People still need to move due to relocation, growing families, downsizing, and various lifestyle changes
Many homeowners are realizing how important a LARGE, organized pantry is for their family now that the kids have been in the home and a lot of households have been serving 3 meals a day.

FINANCES
Builders and suppliers are quickly adapting to the changing environment we live in. The necessity of new processes to be developed during COVID-19 will impact the way our industry offers solutions and does business long-term. Many industry professionals are now offering virtual tours, video walk throughs of move-in ready homes and model homes, virtual design centers, and progress videos during construction meetings, plus curbside closings and online notary approvals, to accommodate your safety and schedule while efficiently continuing your home project.
INTEREST RATES ARE AT AN ALL TIME LOW. We repeat, an ALL TIME LOW! Take advantage of this opportunity while it exists and connect with your bank today.
AFFORDABILITY INDEX IS HIGH People can afford more home now than they will be able to in the future.
SHORTAGE OF AVAILABLE HOUSING Existing home inventory does not come close to meeting the housing demand in our market right now, so building a new home is the best means for getting what you’re looking for.
BUYING TRUMPS RENTING When financially comparing buying a home to renting, it is important to consider that your mortgage payment will not change or go up, but your rent will. If you can buy a new home at a lower payment (see incredibly low interest rates!), and have that payment for the next 30 years, then why would you not buy?
We may have to conduct our business a little differently these days, but BAGI Members are here and ready to make your new homeownership experience the best it can be. Visit BAGI.com to find your Builder, Remodeler, Supplier, or New Home today and learn more about what our members have to offer!

The phrase, “You can’t control what happens to you, but you can control how you respond” has been appropriate during this season of uncertainty when our world got flipped upside down and inside out many times throughout the spring. Deemed by the State of Indiana and the Department of Homeland Securities an essential infrastructure, the team at Custom Concrete has continued to work. But, as Jason Ells, Senior Vice President of Custom Concrete, says, it is not business as usual. “We care deeply about our employees and customers and we want nothing more than for Custom Concrete to be a beacon of hope during this storm,” says Ells. As such, they have taken extreme measures to ensure the safety of their employees & customers. For starters, many of their staff are working from home. For those who do go to the job site, they have staggered start times & lunch breaks, installed hand washing stations, and continually sanitize their tools & equipment throughout the day. “I’m thankful to be surrounded by people who are wise and calm,” says Ells. “I’ve been amazed at the creativity, determination, and compassion of our team and partners.” For instance, one of their project managers worked with a

WINDOW TREATMENTS
DRAPERY STREET:
MOTORIZATION Doesn’t Mean Boring
The last thing you want when shopping for window treatments is a bland look that adds nothing to the aesthetic of your home. You’ve worked hard to curate the décor to develop your style, and your window treatments should complement that. 2 2 H AV E N
Motorized window treatments are convenient, luxurious, and downright cool. But if you’ve been shopping at the wrong places, you might think motorization means basic and boring. The custom motorized window treatments at Drapery Street are anything but boring! They can motorize nearly any type of treatment.
ROMAN SHADES
SHUTTERS
PRIVACY SHEERS
Drapery Street offers a variety of Roman shades, all of which can be motorized. This includes custom fabric Roman shades. The fabric of these motorized blackout Roman shades was purposely rotated to keep the hand-painted effect instead of matching the exact pattern on all three shades. It’s the small details that make the biggest difference in creating a stunning visual!
It may come as a surprise, but Drapery Street even offers a shutter product that can be motorized. Hunter Douglas Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Shutters are built using a UV-resistant material that prevents warping, cracking, fading, chipping and peeling even when exposed to intense sunlight and moisture. PowerView® technology allows for hands-free louvre tilt operation.
Luminette® Privacy Sheers are a great alternative to vertical blinds. They filter light beautifully while still providing privacy. Motorization adds an extra level of convenience to maintaining your privacy.
OUTDOOR SHADES
DRAPERIES
SHADES
Drapes can be motorized, too! When installed on a motorized rod, you can open and close your drapes with the push of a button, flip of a switch, or even the sound of your voice.
Whether roller, honeycomb, or woven wood is your favorite style of shade, Drapery Street can motorize your shades for effortless operation. Motorized shades are a perfect addition to a sun room letting you enjoy the sunshine or gradually lower the shades to control the brightness.

HOMESENSE HEATING & COOLING:
Essential Comfort & Peace of Mind WITH HOMESENSE by Matt Keating
While understanding how far down the priority list heating and air conditioning is within a national emergency, the team at Homesense Heating and Cooling have been taking their essential role very seriously. “Since before any restrictions went in place, our team was practicing all recommended safety protocols by wearing gloves, masks, and employing appropriate distance,” said Brian Schutt, Homesense co-owner. As clients across Central Indiana have been spending increased time in their homes, Homesense has continued to serve homeowners

with A/C tune-ups, repairs, and HVAC replacements. One particular area of concern as warm weather moves in, and financial uncertainty is still prevalent, is their desire not to add increased anxiety for homeowners who need to replace their air conditioners. “At the heart of Homesense is the desire to operate with integrity,” said Schutt. “While we know many people will have A/C’s that need to be replaced this summer, it felt like there needed to be a creative way to help customers.” They found it with equipment supplier Daikin, the world’s largest air conditioning company who manufactures equipment in Houston. Daikin, along with some financing partners, have put together a program where customers will pay nothing for an entire year. The “Daikin Stimulus,” is meant to add some extra peace of mind in what could be an uncomfortable next few months. “While we know this is a small financial reprieve in comparison to the anxiety many people are feeling, we hope it can help those in need of a new air conditioner feel a little less stressed,” Schutt concluded. While still offering the at-home estimates, Homesense has built a virtual estimating form that allows clients to receive a free replacement estimate while limiting in-person contact. For questions about the Daikin Stimulus, on-site or virtual estimates, contact Homesense today at 317-868-1038.

2020 OUTDOOR LIVING PLANNING GUIDE
Over the past few months we have had the opportunity to experience more time at home than ever before. Many of us have been staring out of our windows and perhaps dreaming about what we could do to repurpose our bland outdoor living space into something beautiful, both in form and function. Our goal is to provide a seamless transition from your home to your outdoor space and make it a part of your overall floorplan. We want to help you create the backyard of your dreams, an outdoor oasis for relaxation and so much more.
PRO TIP
TIMELESS & TRADITIONAL This style can be executed in a trendy way with a creative design layout, unique elements and newer hardscape materials.
PLANNING YOUR OASIS OUR PROCESS 1. Initial Meeting Oasis Outdoor has modernized to offer initial meetings virtually or in person, enabling homeowners to show their space and share their vision for the project from afar. Whether it’s an in-person meeting or a virtual consultation, together we can tour your property, highlighting elements you want to include, any issues we might see, and honing the details of your vision. In addition, you can upload photos of your home or share pictures of landscape and hardscape designs that inspire you to give the designer a better idea of the aesthetics you are seeking. Once we’ve set a budget for the project, we will have a landscape architect come out to conduct an independent site analysis, record comprehensive measurements, and take additional photos. We will also assess conditions such as slope, sun/shade, privacy, drainage, health of existing plants, and views. This visit can be done without you there and will give our designer the details they need in order to put together an accurate design.
2. Design Rendering
DESIGN SERVICES We start with an individualized approach for each project. Working to create a custom space that becomes your outdoor sanctuary. Whether it be a lush landscape, a backyard oasis with a luxurious water feature, or an alfresco kitchen to entertain family and friends, our team will guide you through a step-by-
The next step in our process is to turn the conceptual design into a visual rendering of your project. The design will detail the individual landscape elements discussed as well as include 3D renderings and material selections. This visual rendering will aid both the client and the design architect throughout the process. Our goal during this process is to take your ideas and bring them to digital life.
3. Build Process We not only design your outdoor space; we construct it to meet all your needs. We are hands on during this process to ensure the same level of quality is met from day one to the finished product. Rob Delaby, owner of Oasis Outdoor, and his team will use their expertise, knowledge and design background to make your outdoor space your personal oasis.

MAKING
VIRTUAL YOUR NEW REALITY ACo Modernizes with Virtual In-Home Design to Help You Love Where You Live
T 3 0 H AV E N
by Christy Heitger-Ewing
here is no doubt about it – 2020 will be remembered as the year in which the world was forced to change. As government officials imposed mandates to temporarily close businesses and shared strict social distancing directives, suddenly all of society had to learn to adapt to a new normal. But as the old adage goes, “The only thing that is constant is change.” As such, individuals, families, and businesses all modified their way of life in order to help the greater good. “Adversity inspires innovation,” says David Decker, owner of ACo, a Fishers-based remodeling company that specializes in floorings, cabinets, kitchens, and baths. “That’s why at ACo, we have modernized our business to work virtually as much as possible. Virtual design services are the new reality.” Now, more than ever, community members are looking forward to looking forward. People have no interest in putting their plans on indefinite hold. Quite the contrary, they want to look to the future. Between jobs, family, and life’s many obligations, often home improvement projects take a backseat priority as homeowners struggle to carve out the necessary time to do the proper research and discuss viable options. Right now, however, society is presented with a unique opportunity to take a breath, open one’s laptop, and, without feeling rushed or frazzled, dream big. Whether a homeowner is planning a new kitchen, master bathroom, or replacing flooring, ACo can guide folks through the challenges of designing a project, taking measurements, and selecting the perfect finishes using a virtual, safe, worry-free approach.
ACo MAKES IT EASY! When you’re ready to tackle a home improvement project while practicing social distancing but aren’t sure where to start, ACo is here to help. Using video conferencing, in-home measuring apps, virtual reality, and our flooring visualizer, our designers will guide you through planning and executing your project from afar.

MORPHILLIO MOOD BOARDS help reflect a client’s style preferences and project vision.
The process starts when a homeowner like you connects with ACo via their website. You can start by using the ACo Budget Calculator to get a baseline for your remodel or go straight to requesting your free virtual in-home consultation. An ACo designer will reach out to establish which apps you will utilize for videoconferencing, measuring, and design inspiration. After helping you download the apps to your phone, tablet, or computer, the designer will conduct the initial virtual design consultation.
HOW A VIRTUAL DESIGN CONSULTATION WORKS As part of the process, you will give your designer a tour of the space you want to remodel via video conference before discussing design inspiration, project details, and budget. Homeowners may choose to utilize Pinterest, Houzz, or Morpholio Board to exchange ideas, find inspiration, or brainstorm possibilities. The designer will then walk you through how to measure doors, windows, trim, and any odd spaces. This is when more of those virtual apps like the Measure App, MagicPlan, and CamtoPlan will come in handy, helping you measure and helping your designer get the full picture of the layout of your rooms. Your ACo Designer will then provide you an estimate and selection mood 3 2 H AV E N

As a designer, I love the reaction I get when I pull their inspiration together and present a Morpholio Mood board,” says Carlie Suski, ACo Design & Sales Consultant. “It has a definite wow factor.” Then comes the selection process where the designer will virtually walk you through choosing your flooring, cabinets, and finishes from the ACo showroom utilizing video conference. Dani Kohl, Design and Sales Consultant with ACo, maintains that there is no magic in achieving a great virtual design. “It’s all about my creativity and commitment, combined with my team’s hard work, to keep clients engaged,” says Kohl. “But most of all, I like to keep the fun and enthusiasm in any and all of my designs.”

You can try out different designs and styles, save and organize the options you like best, and have your ACo designer help you determine what color, style, and material complements the aesthetics of your home. “I’ve been using the Flooring Visualizer with clients for a few months now,” says Todd Moretto, another of ACo’s Design & Sales Consultants who specializes in flooring. “Clients’ love that they can use this augmented reality to get a clearer picture of how new flooring will transform their home, as well as decide what truly looks best in their space.” After creating a new design board and sharing the selections you have made via Morpholio, the designer will drop off samples on your front porch that you want to see in person. When it comes time for in-home measurement and scope review by the designer and pre-construction manager, all necessary actions and sanitary precautions will be taken to ensure all parties are healthy – for instance, thoroughly washing hands & using hand sanitizer upon arrival, wearing shoe covers & rubber gloves, maintaining a social distance of six feet or more, and wiping down doorknobs, light fixtures, counters, and other surfaces. Following revisions and contract acceptance (all done virtually), installation will follow the same safety precautions noted above, as well as include a jobsite sanitation station for the duration of your remodel. “When homeowners are ready to tackle a home improvement project while practicing social distancing but aren’t sure where to start, ACo is here to help,” says Decker. “Using video conferencing, in-home measuring apps, virtual reality, and our flooring visualizer, our designers will guide you through planning and executing your project from afar.” Contact ACo for your free virtual in-home design consultation. ELECTRICITY & LIGHTING
BURTNER ELECTRIC:
5 WAYS
to Improve Your Garage Lighting by Matt Keating
USE AMBIENT LIGHTING for a soft overhead light in the garage. This can really light up the floors and walls for safety, parking, and work projects.
3 6 H AV E N
You probably spend more time in your garage than you realize. Whether you are parking the car, taking care of your outdoor spaces and equipment, or working on a special project, you need proper lighting to get things done. Here are five great ways to improve your garage lighting:
1. LED Lights They can be used to lower your electric bills and effectively light the garage. They give you the same effective lighting at a lower wattage and cost. Mike Lamb of Burtner Electric says, “Using led strip lights in place of open bulb keyless fixtures will save you energy and will modernize the look of your garage lighting.”
2. Ambient Lighting Use ambient lighting for a soft overhead light in the garage. This can really light up the floors and walls for safety, parking, and work projects. Task lighting is also perfect for storage and work areas. It lets you avoid eye strain when you are organizing the garage, or really concentrating on a detailed home improvement job. Lamb noted that “adding more fixtures over a work area, or a work bench, will dramatically improve how you see your garage projects, and permanently installed fixtures are safer than job lights that you plug in and have to remember to unplug when you are finished using them.”
3. Motion Sensors Install motion sensors to lower electricity consumption. Motion activated lights not only turn on when you walk into the space, but they shut the garage lights off within a short time frame if no one is moving in the garage, saving you money.
4. Bulb Wattage Buy bulbs that have enough wattage. Garages have different lighting requirements depending on the size of the garage and the number of windows. High wattage bulbs might be your best option if you have a big garage or little natural light. Be sure not to install a higher wattage bulb than your fixture recommends.
5. Fixture Type Select light fixtures based on function and type. It helps to choose fixtures that will light the garage evenly. If you opt for several flush-mount fixtures, make sure they are placed at an equal distance to each other. You will find yourself more relaxed and in a better mood when you have the right lighting for working in your garage. Contact Burtner Electric at 317-773-7663 or online at burtnerelectric.com for help lighting your garage more effectively.

G&G CUSTOM HOMES:
HOME IS WHERE THE TECH IS by Courtney Walker Pope
“Home is where the tech is” has never been more accurate! For the clients who have built with G&G Custom Homes over the past several years, they have been able to spend their recent days with powerful WI-FI, video conferencing, outdoor landscape audio and a media room to catch up on the latest Netflix series. Building a custom home is a smart move. Adding smart home technology only adds to the functionality and performance of your space. It’s possible to control your home remotely and utilize a host of features designed to enhance your life, and this is what the partnership of G&G Custom Homes and TRI Phase Technologies give you. A few of these desirable smart home technology features are further explained with Sean Bartram, a Design Specialist at TRI Phase Technologies. “Joe, with G&G, does an excellent job incorporating a technology budget for his custom home build clients. I meet with every client and go over a list of needs and goals, and then provide annotated prints and options that meet those desires,” said Bartram. “We are also cautious not to disrupt the interior and exterior design features of a home with technology. Some of our favorite discrete options will be included in G&G’s 2020 Home-A-Rama home like the Leon EDGE media frame and a powerful outdoor landscape audio system.” The Leon EDGE media frame is an entirely 4 0 H AV E N
custom TV frame. It includes a high-quality sound bar, a 6” deep wooden frame that hides all cords and can be customized to any finish the client or interior designer desires. This includes wallcovering, wood types, and custom paint – the possibilities are endless and the finished look is seamless with the home design. Outdoor time while social distancing has been important for mental health in the past few weeks. It’s human nature to desire and thrive from the light of sun and breath of fresh air. TRI Phase recognized this need for uninterrupted audio in an outdoor living space and incorporated a beautiful outdoor landscape audio plan for the upcoming G&G Home-A-Rama house. “The home design plans for eight speakers and two subwoofers in the back of the home and four speakers and one subwoofer in the front. It’s important to have complete surround, even sound, without any soft spots. Our design and installation will provide audio that fills the yard,” said Bartram. LOW RE/MAX AT THE CROSSING:
INTEREST RATES Make it a Great Time to Buy a Home by Matt Keating
“The spring market is going to be delayed, but when things get back to normal, it is going to be a very, very good market.” – PHIL HOTLE Re/Max at the Crossing
4 2 H AV E N
Phil Hotle with RE/MAX At The Crossing has some strong advice for home buyers in the current climate. “There are extremely low interest rates, and now is a great time to buy or refinance,” Hotle said. “The spring market is going to be delayed, but when things get back to normal, it is going to be a very, very good market. People are going to have a severe case of cabin fever, and this time at home is just reaffirming what they have been thinking about.” For empty nesters, Hotle says the increased time at home is just reconfirming that they have too much home to take care of. “They need to right-size to a home that now better fits their needs,”he said. “I call it right sizing, not downsizing. They may be asking themselves if now is a good time to stay or move to a ranch style home or retirement community. They may also want a quality house that can still accommodate family gathering.” “For families, the recent time at home may be showing them that they have outgrown their present home and need a new one that better fits their family’s needs. All of this recent time at home may have convinced them now is the time to search for a bigger home,” Hotle said. For first-time home buyers, Hotle says that now is an excellent time to take the plunge and buy their first home. “The rates are low right now,” Hotle says. “They should enjoy the fruits of home ownership and build a new home or buy an existing home.” Hotle noted that new home sales are going to explode. “There is a lot of new construction going on now,” Hotle says. “Another hot segment of the housing market is the remodeling and updating of homes. A lot of people are replacing their flooring and making other updates to their home.” If you would like some more guidance with your next real estate transaction, please reach out to Phil Hotle at 317-919-8504.

GARAGE DOORS
PRECISION GARAGE DOOR SERVICE OF INDIANAPOLIS:
Ensuring Your Garage Door
Will Be Safe by Matt Keating
4 4 H AV E N
Garage door safety is something more people need to take seriously according to Joel Belyew, President of Precision Door Service of Indianapolis. “There are 30,000 people a year treated in emergency rooms for garage door accidents,” Belyew said. “June is Garage Door Safety Month, and I hope more people think about safety before they try to fix or install a garage door themselves.” As a homeowner, there are several things you can do to keep yourself and your family safe around garage doors. The Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association International (DASMA) recommends trained door systems technicians install garage doors. Old door springs should be replaced. They are arguably the most important and dangerous part of your door. Belyew noted that when springs wear out, they break and can cause serious injuries. “When you are using the opener, keep the door in sight until it complete stops moving,” Belyew stated. “Teach children to never play under or near an open garage door.” Another common cause of injuries is playing beat the door, after pressing your garage door opener then trying to run out under it. Both children and adults should avoid doing this Belyew said. “It’s dangerous and can result in serious injury or death. You should know how to use the emergency release in case someone is pinned by the door.” The industry is also constantly working to improve standards and advance technology that helps protect consumers from injury. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has a Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act that requires all residential garage door openers meet the entrapment protection provisions for garage door openers. One of the provisions is that all garage door operators must re-open within 30 seconds of the start of movement in the downward direction if the mechanism senses that the door did not fully close. Precision Garage Door of Indianapolis is a full-service garage door company specializing in garage door repair, replacement garage doors, and repair of garage door openers. Avoid injury and keep your family safe by maintaining or upgrading your garage door, call Precision Garage Door at (317) 943-4737 or check out their website at precisionindy.com.

CUSTOM HOMES
INTEGRA BUILDERS:
FROM INDY TO BLOOMINGTON, McCOMB PELLA WINDOWS AND DOORS PARTNERS WITH CUSTOM BUILDER, INTEGRA BUILDERS by Courtney Walker Pope
The building process is a memorable one and Michael Mercho, of family owned Integra Builders has delivered on some of the finest custom homes in the industry for over 30 years. From Indianapolis to Bloomington, “Our family takes great pride in our ability to create distinctive and creative home designs that feature state-of-the-art and comfortable interiors; combining luxury, functionality and beauty,” said Mercho. Integra believes architectural features in a luxury custom home can add immense depth and character to a home built in the modern day – windows and doors are important details to place heavy consideration on. Mercho explained, “It starts with initial quality, and the Pella brand has a great reputation for quality, customer service (to the builder) and warranty (to the homeowner) especially with McComb Pella Windows and Doors.” Mercho has had a long-standing relationship with McComb’s representative Ryan Lee. “Ryan will come to our office, and go through each and every single window, one by one as we work through the CAD or 3D renderings to make sure everything comes out right. He’s personable, knowledgeable and we appreciate the relationship we have built with him over the years,” said Mercho, “and for the client’s selections, I can send Ryan’s information and he handles it start to finish.” Building a custom home should be an exhilarating and rewarding experience. Integra Builders takes the utmost care in making sure your home reflects your lifestyle and individual taste. With an unparalleled reputation for excellence in today’s custom market, they design each home with the highest level of craftsmanship every step of the way. As an example, the prairie-style grid windows used Pella’s Lifestyle series and Mercho explained the details and problem-solving their 4 8 H AV E N

team executed with Ryan. “We worked with Ryan on the sizing of the windows to be sure they could be installed properly on the arched wall and be able to still properly waterproof the openings.” As summer 2020 quickly approaches, a unique market trend is biophilia – the innate, human emotion connection to nature. Integra loves to incorporate biophilia with McComb Pella Windows and Doors by designing and installing collapsing, bifolding, or sliding windows and doors into wall cavities – it’s a great way to bring the outdoor weather, festivities, and entertaining inside without a large barrier! We all know and appreciate, connecting with nature has been a necessity for humans the past few months! If you’re looking for a solid builder-supplier combination on your luxury home build, be sure to connect with Michael Mercho with Integra. CALIFORNIA CLOSETS:
A COLLABORATIVE CREATION: California Closets’ Design Team Brings Dreams to Life by Christy Heitger-Ewing
The vision at California Closets is to design better lives. “We do that through a collaborative co-creation design experience,” says Marcus Hall, President and Partner of California Closets. Typically, a designer will meet at a client’s home or office in order to see and measure the space. At that meeting, the client talks through what they’re looking to achieve with the project and shares their budget range. They may also provide a picture or inspirational image of a project they admire. “Meeting with the client helps me pick up other things that are important to them,” says Erin Moore, Executive Designer of California Closets. “I can quickly

figure out what their design style is and incorporate it into any designs we’ll do.” Through her expertise, training, and years of experience, Moore takes what she’s given and creates an idea. She then checks in with the client, tweaks the idea, and produces iterations of that design in combination with her client. This collaborative process starts by inviting the client into the showroom where the designer illustrates possible designs on their 80-inch television screen. Then the designer and client combine their ideas to come up with the perfect creation. “Everything we do is custom. There is no, ‘Hey, I want #7,’” says Hall. “Our collaborative experience involves co-creating something together. Then we custom manufacture it and our team of installers come out to your home or office and deliver the product through a white-glove-finished installation experience.” The whole experience is then capped off with a celebration as the designer adds personal touches to each project. “Erin has done some cool things to celebrate a space, whether it’s a little thank-you note on custom hangers or including a special piece of artwork,” says Hall. “It’s all part of designing a better life.” Get started on your custom designed closet with organization and style to suit your life with California Closets, visitcaliforniaclosets.com or call 317-406-6264 to schedule a free virtual consultation.

Carlos Salazar, Owner & Chef at
Fishers Test Kitchen by Courtney Walker Pope
Three exciting new restaurant concepts launched earlier this year at Fishers Test Kitchen, a culinary accelerator that is located adjacent to the new Sun King Fishers brewing facility in The Yard at Fishers District. The accelerator hosts three culinary entrepreneurs who are in the midst of launching their restaurant concepts while learning and gaining real-life restaurant business experience. The concepts include Lil Dumplings global street food, Korave Korean barbecue and Natural State Provisions southern-inspired fare. The Signature Table, a culinary performance space featuring classes, chef dinners and special events, is also a part of Fishers Test Kitchen. The Test Kitchen functions as a small food hall designed to allow diners to sample the restaurants’ evolving menus and then dine in Sun King’s family friendly taproom. But with dining room closures prompted by the current global pandemic, the Sun King taproom was unable to host guests. One Test Kitchen chef powered through the challenging circumstances with delivery options and a curbside pickup menu. Carlos Salazar, chef/owner of Lil Dumplings, has continued to offer his take on creative street food.
Salazar is a graduate of The Chefs Academy, recipient of numerous local accolades and has been a contender for Food & Wine magazine’s People’s Best New Chef award. “My biggest goal was to change Indy in some way with my food,” said Salazar, explaining why he wanted to be a part of Fishers Test Kitchen. Of course, his goals, daily menu and presentation drastically changed in mid-March with mandated dining room closures. But Lil Dumplings’ current to-go menu attests to Chef Carlos’ innovation and creativity as he and his staff adjust to the challenges of a carry-out only business. With a menu that celebrates street food from around the world, Chef Carlos has worked to stay in tune with his customers while unveiling new entrees – including what has become a popular weekly ramen special. “The learning process is going through it day by day, listening to customers, listening to what they’d like, what they didn’t like or what they expect from us,” he said. To support Fishers Test Kitchen and learn more about this new restaurant accelerator program, visit the website at FishersTestKitchen.com.
