Park Improvements Haverford Township maintains 34 parks with a total of almost 450 acres; for the active and passive enjoyment of our residents and guests. Parks strengthen the community, conserve nature, enhance our health and increase the value of our homes. Parks are the jewels of the township. Surveys show that by a margin of over 3 to 1, citizens favor increased spending for the care of parks. Our township code designates types of parks based on geographic area and population served: Community Parks (4), Neighborhood Parks (12), Sub-neighborhood parks (17) and Gateway Parks (1). Included in the parks are over 7 miles of trails, 23 playgrounds, 18 basketball courts, 19 tennis courts, 4 pickle ball courts, 2 beach volleyball, 2 hockey courts, 19 softball/little league fields, 7 baseball fields, 12 football/soccer/lacrosse fields, 3 t-ball fields, 8 pavilions, 1 skate park and 1 dog park.

Fitness Center Guided Strength Workouts

Barre Fitness

A fun and empowering class focusing on postural strength and alignment. This class incorporates light weights for the upper body and a ballet Barre to sculpt the lower body, abs and for flexibility training. Fee: $65 or $115 for 2 classes in the same session. Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, improve range of motion and enhance activities of daily living. Hand-held weights, resistance bands and Silver Sneakers balls are used for exercises. Total Body Stretch

Improved your flexibility and reduce joint and muscle stiffness. This class offers focused stretching on all the major muscle groups, to increase range of motion and flexiblity throughout the body. T’ai Chi Chih

T’AI CHI is a series of 20 slow, gentle and movements that balance the vital energy within us called Chi. Chi promotes improved health, peacefulness and serenity. This class also promotes balance and good posture, improved flexibility, focus and concentration and relaxes the joints. Spin

These classes have something for everyone: intervals, rolling hills, sprints and climbs all to music hand-picked to motivate and inspire. This is a great workout if you want to burn calories and increase endurance. All levels welcome. Power Yoga

This is a vinyasa-based class with an emphasis on following the breath as we move from posture to posture. Students will build strength, flexibility, and concentration while focusing on proper alignment of the body as well as calming the mind. This class is not appropriate for beginners. Hatha Yoga

This class uses postures (asanas) and stretches in combination with breathing to develop flexibility and relaxation. Our Hatha Yoga class will encourage proper alignment of the body and bring balance, strength, and calmness to the practitioner. Slow Flow Yoga

Enjoy a perfect combination of breath and movement by slowly working your muscles with alignment based yoga postures. You will gradually build heat in the body through a flow of poses that will clear the mind. We will modify traditional yoga poses so that all levels can enjoy. Beginning welcome. Secrets of Cobbs Creek Walk, The Hidden and Visible

Saturday, 2/4 (10am-1pm) Meet at SEPTA Ardmore Junction station parking lot (Haverford Ave and W. Hathaway). Join biologist Rich Horwitz on a walk to discover how our history impacted Cobbs Creek, including the most severe and cryptic – burial! 3 miles of easy walking along the partly buried course of Cobbs and its tributaries, a mix of streets, paths and stream side.

Spring Peeper Walk

Saturday, 4/8 (3-4:30pm) Meet in CREC lobby Be a spring peeper and find all the new growth within the Haverford Reserve. Wetland Ecologist, Derron LaBrake will lead this walk and talk and hopefully we will hear the many sounds of the spring peeper frog.

Insect Identification

Saturday, 1/21 (9am-2pm) Location: CREC Environmental Lab Understanding insects is a small step in understanding the world we live in. Come join Alan Samel of DCVA, an Aquatic Ecologist and Entomologist, as he exposes some of the subtleties of the insects we live with.

Stream Hike

Sunday, 5/7 (1-2:30pm) Meet in the CREC lobby. Bring your boots and prepare to get in close to the creeks at the Reserve. Find out who lives in the streams and how the environment impacts them.

Hilltop to Collenbrook Farm Hike

Sunday, 5/14 (1-4pm) Meet at Hilltop Park/Steel Field parking lot on Steel Rd. Hilltop spur & Darby Creek Trail through the Pilgrim Gardens “lost forest” to a new Upper Darby Trail to Collenbrook Farm historic site. You may linger and tour the historic building or press on to Aronimink woods, then return with us or loop back via sidewalk to the start. ~4 miles, mostly easy, 2 stream crossings, some mud!

Wear appropriate footwear for hikes. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required.

Trail News Pennsy Trail Dedication

On Sat., June 11, Haverford Township officials dedicated the Pennsy Trail, the old railroad line running through the Llanerch, Brookline and Oakmont sections of Haverford Township. The most recent segment of the project was partially funded from a DVRPC grant.

Trails Summit

Saturday, 2/25 (9am-noon) Location: CREC Anyone interested in walking and biking in Haverford Township is welcome to attend and review progress, identify opportunities to improve walking & biking and prioritize future trail connections in our community. Scout Saturday

Darby Creek Trail Study

A committee has formed to work with the Recreation Department and our Township engineer to explore the possibilities to create a continuous trail along Darby Creek. There will be opportunities for public input over the next 3 months. Look on our website for details.

Darby Creek Trail Walk

4/22 - Earth Day (11:30am) Join us for our 10th Annual 3 mile walk from Merry Place to Haverford Reserve. See the route and hear about the plans to create a continuous trail. A bus can bring you back. Meet at Merry Place.

Martin Luther King Day Monday, January 16th. The Rec Department and Haverford College are teaming up for a Basketball Clinic. The proceeds will benefit needy families in Delaware County. Girls Lacrosse Clinic

Girls Lacrosse Leagues

Grade: 2--This program incorporates fun drills and games to help kids build their skill level and confidence. Merry Place...A Place For All Merry Place is an area designed and built by volunteer contributions for people of all ages and abilities, especially families of children with special needs.

Merry Place Permit Policy

Merry Place is an ideal location for family, school, scout and church gatherings. In order to allow the greatest use by township residents, we limit time to 3 hour blocks and give township residents priority. For a permit and policy information please go to our website www.haverfordtownship.com.

Summer Preview Camp Counselors

We are looking for a few good men and women ages 18 and over to join our All-Star summer staff. If you have strong leadership skills and are enthusiastic, see the Recreation website in February for an application. Group Interviews will be conducted in February and March. Full Day Summer Camp

The Recreation Department offers a full day program (8am to 6:00pm) for ages 6-12. The program begins Monday June 26 and continues through August 4 Information on time and fees will be available on our website in early March. Registration begins March 13.

HavaGood Times

Summer Sports Camp

The Recreation Department offers summer sports camps in lacrosse, field hockey, basketball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, tennis and cheerleading. A full list of dates, times and fees will be on our website in early April. Online registration for Summer Sports Camps begins April 3.

Park Maintenance Positions
