Front of House Assistants (casual) The Hawth Theatre, Crawley Background: Parkwood Theatres, a division of leisure support services company Parkwood Leisure, which is part of Parkwood Holdings plc. Parkwood Leisure operates in excess of 80 facilities nationwide employing over 6,000 employees. Our aim is to deliver high quality services to our customers; the Company also prides itself on its exemplary health and safety record and a commitment to our staff. The Hawth, Crawley opened in May 1989 and is managed by Parkwood Theatres on behalf of Crawley Borough Council under the terms of a 10 year management agreement, which commenced in February 2012. A very high standard of Customer Care is a priority for both the Company and our Client. The Venue comprises of an 850 seat proscenium arch Main Theatre and a 146 seat Studio Theatre. Both spaces, as well as the grounds surrounding the Venue, are capable of being used in a multitude of formats and layouts which is reflected in The Hawth’s extensive range of programmed arts events and activities.


Organisational Structure: The post holder will report directly to the Duty Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Primary Objectives for the position will be:

To maintain a comfortable and welcoming environment for all customers

To assist with the smooth running of functions and shows at the venue

To provide an excellent level of customer service to all users of The Hawth

To maintain a safe and clean environment for all visitors

To proactively sell products as required

On duty, the FOH Assistant may undertake the following tasks:

Maintaining the general safety and comfort of customers

Checking tickets and directing customers to their seats

Serving drinks from the bars & collecting glasses etc.

Selling programmes, merchandise and ice creams and reconciling income to the required standard either manually or using EPOS till system

To proactively upsell products

Serving meals, waiting on tables and other catering duties

Litter picking and light cleaning duties

General stewarding for conferences and Festival events

To ensure that all duties are carried out in compliance with statutory provisions and in accordance with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy

To ensure that all duties are carried out in compliance with the Company’s Equality & Diversity Policy

To undertake any other duties as may be required by the Duty Manager or FOH Supervisor

Assisting with Emergency Evacuations and other emergency situations

Predominantly evenings & weekends with occasional weekdays Hours are not regular, as required


THE CANDIDATE: Experience: •

The candidate must have some retail & customer service experience

Previous Bar experience would be a strong advantage

Personal: Among the personal characteristics sought, the applicant must have: •

A positive attitude towards customer service issues

Ability to communicate clearly & cohesively with the public at all levels

A considerate, friendly, warm & approachable temperament

Excellent communication skills and a good telephone manner

Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative

Access to private transport is required due the location of the venue and shift patterns
