NEWS Important stuff in this journal
This year’s AGM will take place at the monthly meeting on 2nd March. The agenda for that meeting plus the minutes from the last can be found on pages 4 and 5. Also, on page 6 you will find a copy of a new form devised to resolve any future problems arising from membership data. Following a review of the membership situation it has been decided that members should reaffirm their details each year, as is the usual course of action for many clubs similar to the LTEC. Therefore we are including this new form in this journal. If you usually pay your subs at the AGM, please fill in the details and bring the form, with your payment, to the meeting. Otherwise please post the form back to Aidan (the Membership Secretary) with you subs payment. Thank You. If you receive your journal by email I have made it easier for you to print off the form by including it as a separate attachment. The notes, paragraphs and articles of association, referred to in the text at the top of the form, were on your original membership application form. If you would like to remind yourself what these are they are available on the club website - www.lancashiretec.co.uk
The Front Cover Photo was the winner of this year’s photographic competition. Taken on board PS Waverley on 28th September last year, in the Thames Estuary, just before disembarking at Southend-On-Sea following a cruise to Clacton and back. The photographer was Hazel Bregazzi. And it was a clean sweep for the Bregazzi family at the December meeting, as Jonathan was declared the winner of the quiz hosted by Aidan Fisher and Peter Flitcroft. His prize is to host the quiz next year so may I suggest you do some research on ships, aeroplanes, the Isle of Man and one-off steam buggies before then!
Obituary
I am sad to report that Cheshire engine owner and long time LTEC member and supporter, Arthur Bridge, passed away last October. Arthur was well known on the North West rally circuit with the family’s ex. WJ King Burrell Roller no. 4004, YB2010, ‘Pride of Somerset’ which he restored many years ago. Arthur and his son, Richard, were also part way through the ground up restoration of a Foden Wagon. He was an exceptional engineer and the Burrell was evidence of this talent. His engineering skills were limitless and he would think nothing of going to such lengths as cutting the differential gears for the Foden in his home workshop in Grappenhall. I knew Arthur from my very earliest days of rallying. He was a friendly, knowledgeable and very unassuming man. I am sure he will be missed on the rally circuits of the North West. Our condolences go to Mrs Bridge and Richard, Sue and Danny. Anthony Seddon

engine notes By George Coles The Boxing Day run was a great success despite engines not being made welcome at the Jolly Thresher due to a large party being booked for the dining room. The Wheatsheaf had to be made the first port of call this year. The turn-out of engines was very good and included several ‘new’ faces. Particularly pleasing was the Fowler 8 ton Compound Roller 16519 of 1925, owned by Sam Bozson of Dunham Massey. He had only had this since November. How good it is to see our younger members acquiring engines. This was the first time I had seen Rob Houghton’s ‘new’ engine, Burrell 3135, and I was quite impressed. It is a very nice engine. Another engine I had not seen before was the Marshall Agricultural No 78085 owned by Alex Hewitt of Marston near Northwich. This is also a very fine engine that I have just realised I have seen before, at a Lower Withington Rally over 50 years ago when it first came into preservation. It was good to see the Dibnah boys with their roller and the whole day was very enjoyable. Not so our journey
back to the crane yard 3 days later when we got very wet! I have heard a disturbing rumour that The Old No 3 is closed. Now that could be a problem next year if there is only one pub available. Richard Fairhurst tells me that he is having the rear rolls off his Fowler roller rubbered with about an inch of rubber and he hopes that this will produce a smoother ride and a better grip. He is not doing the front rolls as he thinks this may affect the steering. It will be interesting to see how this works out.
