Photo Archive As part of the 50th anniversary of the club we are hoping to gather together an archive of as many photo images as we can that relate to the club and its activities. This will be available online as a fully searchable resource. The beginnings of the archive is now live, online, and can be found by following the link on the Gallery page of the clubs website - www.lancashiretec.co.uk Everyone is invited to add images to the archive through a simple form on the archive page. Digital images can either be uploaded and added or, if they are already available online, they can simply
be linked to the archive. However, if your images are sitting in a box somewhere, in the form of slides or prints, we have the technology to turn them into digital images. Please contact me (Hazel) to discuss this further.

engine notes By George Coles The Acton Bridge Steam Party brought to an end one of the best season of steaming that I can remember in 47 years. The party itself attracted 23 engine, more than any previous event. Phil Braithwaite held a party over the weekend to celebrate finally completing the restoration of his Thomas Green Roller. I was very pleased to see Brian Allison’s Aveling Tractor ‘Oberon’ arrive under its own steam. It is good to see it back after being off the road for a number of years for extensive repairs.
Astle Park rally celebrated 50 years this year with the biggest event ever. Most people agreed that it was also the best ever. We had a new event at Ashley Hall in May which was well supported, and the Lymm festival weekend was enjoyed by all who attended. The rallies at Slaidburn, Kelsall, Daresbury and Malpas all had fine weather and big crowds. All that remains now is the Boxing Day run. After closing in January ‘The Olde No3’ is open again so it can still be a destination for the run.

lymm historic transport day In June the LTEC were involved with the Lymm Historic Transport Day by sponsoring the new steam section of the event. 12 full sizes steam engines filled a town centre car park for the whole weekend, adjacent to the Bridgewater Canal, which was also filled with scores of narrow boats of all shapes and sizes. The Transport Day itself was a one day event, on the Sunday only, so the Saturday was taken up with the engines arriving, all under their own steam, and some choosing to park up around the pubs in town to attract attention for the events the following day. The Sunday began with a large parade through the town. Cars, bikes, busses and, of course, the steam engines all took part. The town was full of spectators and visitors, all come to see the spectacle. Most vehicles then went on to the May Queen field where there were stalls and other entertainment laid on. The Steam stayed around the town where they attracted large crowds.

Feedback we have received from the event organisers as been great. “ From the point of view of the impact the steam had on the experience of the event for visitors was overwhelmingly positive. It was clearly a hugely popular aspect of the day overall for visitors.” was one comment. There is no doubt it was a good event for the club to be involved with; the club’s name was mentioned at every opportunity, in all publicity and, as a result, we have see interest in the club’s activities rise and membership increase. No commitment has been made by the club to next year’s events. The committee will discuss this in due course.
