On Friday, Oct. 20, Jerry and Kristen Braklow graciously opened their home for a reception with HBA members and Overland Park City Councilmen Terry Goodman, Dave Janson, Jim Kite and Curt Skoog. Chris Newlin, who’s likely to win his district, also attended. HBA members, many of whom build and do business in Overland Park, had the opportunity to speak with the councilmen and candidates one-on-one about important issues that affect the industry locally.

The Braklows’ home offered a warm welcome to HBA members and Overland Park officials

Getting to know local candidates has great value for the HBA overall, but more importantly for its individual members — not just in Overland Park but across the Kansas City area. The relationships you form with elected officials is paramount to your business’ success. Creating opportunities like this with the people who make decisions that impact your business and the way you

make a living is a significant priority in the HBA’s efforts to being a leading advocate and the voice for the housing industry. “Since the event, every single council member in Overland Park who attended the meet and greet at Jerry’s home has shared details about the KCHBA/Braklow Custom Homes event on their Facebook pages,” said Executive Vice President Joshua Clark. “I guarantee they’ll recognize the name Braklow Custom Homes whenever they see it from now on.”

The HBA is looking forward to working with other members who are willing to host similar events for elected leadership. If you’re interested in hosting a city council meet and greet, please contact Joshua Clark at jclark@kchba.org. Also, when you have an opportunity, please thank Jerry and Kristen Braklow for inviting industry professionals and the candidates into their home. Their willingness to host the event allowed the HBA and its members to begin fostering relationships with those who set the policies that shape our industry.
