First Federal Bank Helps Students Start Fresh with New Checking Accounts

irst Federal Bank recently donated $10,000 to The Grooming Project. The Grooming Project is the pilot program of Empowering the Parent to Empower the Child (EPEC), a 501c3 nonprofit devoted to helping impoverished families become self-reliant through job training in the high-demand, high-pay trade of pet grooming. Since opening in 2016, the Grooming Project has served over 600 parents and children stuck in the cycle of generational poverty.

Schneider Participates in 2023 Color of the Year Process

The driver of PPG’s 2023 trend forecast is REFLECTIONreflecting on what matters to us most, our relationship to the planet and even the way we engage with others moving forward. In August, PPG announced its 2023 color of the year, Vining Ivy. Vining Ivy is a deep, shaded, Caribbean aqua with a turquoise undertone. It suits con temporary designs or adds a refined pop of color in traditional spac es. Vining Ivy pairs well with deeper toned woods and off-white trim.

First Federal also offers checking accounts for students in this program. “It’s been a real treat for our team to help participants in The Grooming Project re-enter the banking system by opening checking accounts and showing them how to utilize online tools to manage their money,” said bank President/CEO J.R. Buckner.

According to PPG, the Color of the Year is the most usable and on-trend color on the market. Hailing from 11 different countries, PPG color experts come together every year to share emerging trends from their regions and business unit sectors, as well as come to a consensus on the Color of the Year. KCHBA member and PPG Division Color Manager Michelle Schneider participated in the 2023 Architectural Coating forecast.

Over 300 Backpacks Donated to CASA

I

When CASA needed a place to host their school supplies drive, the KCHBA was happy to assist with office space. During the month-long drive, donation barrels were set up in the front and back of the KCHBA building. The downstairs space at the KCHBA was used to store and organize donations.

n 2022, nonprofit Jackson County CASA (Court Appoint ed Special Advocates) volunteers will advocate for 1,250 children removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect. CASA volunteers, with strong on-going support from professional staff, work to provide critical information to judges - helping them make the best possible decisions regarding where the children should live and what medical, therapeutic and educational services they need. Judges assign CASA volunteers to the cases where they’re most needed. Children assigned a CASA volunteer are far less likely to be re-abused, far more likely to find a safe and permanent home, typically spend less time in foster care, have fewer changes in placements and do better in school.

The KCHBA hosted Jackson County CASA’s 2022 school supply drive July 8 - Aug. 8

Thank you to Associates Council for volunteering with backpack assembly.

For most kids, going back to school means new clothes or a new lunch box, but CASA kids rarely get those things. Many CASA children may be starting at new schools. Walking in the first day with a new backpack and school supplies not only gives them the supplies they need to be successful in school, but confidence as well. The cost of school supplies can be daunting for foster families and relatives who have taken these children into their homes.

Two kinds of backpacks and sets of supplies were needed: Kindergarten-6th grade and 7th-12th grade. The KCHBA Associates Council volunteered their time during the Aug. 11 meeting to help with organizing supplies into back packs for them to be ready for the first day of school. The Home Builders Charitable Foundation (HBCF) also donated $1,000 to help with any additional supplies and/ or uniforms still needed.

Thank you to all the KCHBA members who provided school supplies and/or gave monetary donations to the HBCF to make this possible!

Don Julian Builders and Ashlar Homes are two KCHBA members who coordinated an office supply drive.

Choosing the right lender matters too. Our experienced team, extensive construction and mortgage loan programs and streamlined processes have made us one of Kansas City’s top home lenders. We stand ready to help builders and consumers finance home construction, from application to closing.

“The rapid rise in interest rates brought about by the Federal Reserve’s aggressive action aimed at curbing inflation has certainly affected the confidence of home buyers and sellers alike,” said KCHBA’s Executive Vice President Will Ruder. “The Kansas City region is an attractive destination for businesses and families. In order to stabilize the cost of new homes for both current and future residents, cities and counties across the metro should avoid erecting costly new barriers to more housing supply.”
