Chairperson’s Message by Jenny Samek

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. Going to ball games, and more ball games is how we’ve spent the beginning of our summer. I think we should all take a minute and be thankful we are able to attend ball games in our city. There are so many people who have lost their homes and towns from river flooding and tornados. If you are able, consider a donation to the Red Cross or any relief effort. Please keep those people in your thoughts as we head further into summer, the towns continue to rebuild and the flood waters remain high. Now, some fun advice taken from the July 2011 issue of This Old House Magazine, page 16. 10 uses for Chopsticks, more ways to live Green by recycling:

1- Skewer foods for Kabobs 2- Prop up plants by placing by the root/stem of plant 3- Fill a stripped screw hole. Dip the chopstick into a little glue, insert into hole, let the glue dry, then break off the rest of the stick to create a new hole 4- Stir paint by holding them the same way you would when you eat, and whisk the paint before applying 5- Toasting marshmallows 6- Eliminating dirt in hard to reach spots. Use the chopstick with a cleaning cloth to clean out the grooves of paint cans, between air conditioner vents, behind sink faucets, and other narrow areas 7- Unclog bottles. Free up tubes of caulk or bottles of glue by poking the end into the gunked up tip 8- Clean muddy shoes. Keep them by your door to quickly loosen dried dirt or mud from your shoes 9- Prevent oozing mastic. When tiling, use the tip of a chopstick to help clean up excess mastic that escapes into grout voids 10- Label your plants. Create plant signs by stapling cardstock to the chopstick and putting with the plant The Remodelers Council TP Run will benefit the Community Mental Health Center (CMHC). I have helped deliver supplies the last several years and they are always so grateful for anything we can give them. If you have some extra TP or personal hygiene items bring them in to the HBAL office by July 8! Don’t forget if you haven’t already signed up, the Remodelers Golf Outing will be held August 5 at Hidden Valley Golf Course. As always, the event will be a fun-filled day!

TP Run!

Bring Toilet Paper, Toothbrushes, Soap, Other Necessities to HBAL through July 8 The Remodelers Council is having its fourth TP Run (Toilet Paper Run) to help the clients of the Community Mental Health Center (CMHC). These clients are on fixed incomes, and after rent and medical expenses, often are left with very little money for the basic necessities. And, with a decline in the amount of items given from the Center for People in Need, donations from the Remodelers Council of Lincoln are even more helpful than ever before. Items that would be greatly appreciated by CMHC & its clients: • Toilet paper • Bar soap for men • Laundry soap • Bath gel soap for women • Shampoo • Cleaning supplies • Toothpaste • Poly-grip • Sanitary products for women Please pick up an extra roll of toilet paper or bar of soap on your next shopping trip, and drop it by the HBAL office before July 8. Thanks for helping to take care of our community!
