President’s Message Beau Daffer, HBAL President

Well Christmas is over and New Year’s is only days away. This tells me my time serving as president of HBAL is coming to an end very soon. I want to thank the current Board of Directors and Executive Committee for your support and the time you have spent either in the board room, serving on various committees or attending events. As I have said in the past, we have a very strong Association and that doesn’t happen without dedicated members and volunteers. It also doesn’t happen without an amazing staff! As we all know, Michaela, Jennie and Laure have been staples in the office for many years. Having continuity in those roles plays a pivotal role in keeping HBAL not only relevant within the community but also looking for ways to strengthen it as well. Thank you to all three of you for your support over the past year. You make this role so much easier with all of your help and all you do throughout the year. With that said, Jereme Montgomery will be stepping into these shoes very soon. I know he will carry on the great lineage of presidents we have been so fortunate to have. For my last time, I leave you with some words of encouragement: “For every house has a builder, but the one who built everything is God.” Hebrews 3:4

We have an 8 year old son, Aiden, and a 5 year old son, Kyler. What are you currently reading or listening to? I am currently reading a series by Sarah J. Maas (my 45th book of the year). I love to read. What are you currently binge-watching? Yellowstone, it's been too long since the last season aired! If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? A soft serve pretzel with cheese Favorite place you've traveled? My favorite place so far has been Kaua'i, Hawaii. All of the sights were breathtaking and I can't wait to share them with my kids some day. What's the strangest thing you've ever done? The strangest thing I have ever done is swim with pigs in the Bahamas. Those two things don't seem to go together! If you could have a superpower, what would it be? I would like the ability to clean my house with the snap of a finger. If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why? Can I say my cat? The ability to sleep all day and not have a care in the world sounds pretty good to me. If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? Not famous, but I would choose my Grandpa. I would love to sit down with

him again and hear stories about his life growing up. I didn't pay enough attention in the past when I had the chance. What do you love the most about your job? I love helping people make their inspirations come to life. I enjoy asking people about their daily lives and how they use certain plumbing features in their home. Asking them to think about how they use their sink in the kitchen or utility room etc. So we can make sure we have selected the best products to fit their needs. What career advice do you live by? Who gave it to you? If you aren't happy with where you are at, change it. My husband. What’s one skill you’d like to develop or sharpen this year? I would like to learn more about lighting to help expand sales in that area. How has your career benefited from being a member of HBAL? I have been able to connect with different people and strengthen my relationship with those I already know. Any tips or advice for new HBAL members? Show up when you can to whatever events you can. December Board Report Remodelers Council: 37 people attended the Remodelers Council Holiday Party with Music Bingo for entertainment. Members brought mittens, gloves, hats, etc. which will be delivered to a local elementary school. Matt Firestone was installed as Chairperson of the Remodelers Council. The next meeting is “Builders & Burritos” with students at the Career Academy which is scheduled for Friday, January 24. Membership Committee: The following new members were approved. • Apple Custom Homes, Lara Derun Sponsor: John Derun • Apex Projects, Abbie Heusinger Sponsor: Jason Woita • Magni Stone, Brandon Magni Sponsor: Dave Chapin • NuFlow Nebraska, Virginia Kirkpatrick Sponsor: Jereme Montgomery Nadine Condello Memorial The Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation has established a tools scholarship at SCC-Milford in Nadine’s memory. Incoming students must purchase $1,800 in tools before starting the construction program. There will be 5 scholarships funded for the 2025-2026 school year. The number of scholarships each year will be based upon the fund balance, so there will be flexibility to fund additional scholarships if there is need. I am excited and honored to serve as Chairperson of the Remodeler's Council. Over the past few years, I have enjoyed rekindling friendships and making new ones. More importantly, collaborating with many passionate Matt Firestone individuals who support our industry Remodelers Council Chairperson in Lincoln. The Remodeler's Council leadership team (pictured below) have planned a great year of tours, speakers, roundtable discussions and a little fun. Whether you are new to HBAL or are looking to become more involved, consider joining us for one of our events this year. To kick things off, we are returning to The Career Academy for Builders & Burritos on January 24. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with the future of our industry over breakfast. After meeting some of the students last year, I have to say the future is bright with the next generation of builders. Please join us to see some of the students' work, help answer their questions and, more importantly, show them how great our industry truly is. Remodelers Council Holiday Party Music Bingo | December 11, 2024

The Remodelers Council of Lincoln held their annual Holiday Party at the HBAL Office where they enjoyed an Italian buffet and Music Bingo! Our 2024 Chairperson, Jason Willet, officially handed over the hammer to our Chairperson for 2025, Matt Firestone. Matt presented Jason with a plaque and thanked him for his service this past year. All members introduced themselves and then had to answer a random “would you rather” question.
