To Prepare… I am just sitting down after a great morning at SANTA COP! Did you know this is the 29th year the Home Builders have participated in this great event to spread the Christmas Spirit?! For me, Santa Cop has become the start of the most special time of the year, CHRISTMAS! Although, with great anticipation of the Christmas Season, I fear I will find myself repeating the words, “Christmas just isn’t the same as I remember” or “I can’t believe Christmas has come and gone so quickly.” As I reflect on these Christmas quotes I find myself asking, “How can I prepare differently this year to get more out of Christmas?” Funny enough, I just re-read my November’s message “the amount you put into something is measured by the amount you receive.” This rings so true to what I have been experiencing. How can I expect the same results of my greatest Christmas memories when I contribute less? For instance, with so much going on, Tracy and I stopped making an Advent calendar for our family. Each day leading up to Christmas, a request was written on the calendar. Usually the request was asking for each of us to do a small kind deed for someone either at home, work or school. As I continue connecting the dots, I remember sharing back in February how my friend related life’s responsibilities to the idea of juggling a bunch of balls. He stressed, “some balls are made of rubber and are left to bounce, and others are glass and may break!” This leads me to ask myself, “Is the celebration of Christ coming into this world to be considered a glass ball? Does the amount of effort I put into Christmas indicate this?” “For to us a child is born. To us a son is given and his name will be called “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Is 9:6) As I write this message and before Christmas jumps into full gear, I challenge myself to really stop and think about what my Christmas goals are. Hopefully by determining what is the most important, I can sort out the least. (Maybe this way the little things, like the Advent Calendar, do not get set to the side. J ) I pray this Christmas Season that we all come to understand the true meaning of Christmas and to live the peaceful life that God has intended for us. May God Bless the HBAL membership and their families,

We recently received a second draft of HBAL’s Careers in Construction video. Hopefully we will finish up work on the video in December and have it ready to share with our membership at our January 15 Installation. Matt Kleinschmit and Ben Carey recently met to work on developing a pilot program to get builders into schools and in front of students with the hope of developing positive relationships with students which will hopefully encourage them to pursue careers in construction. If you are interested in being a mentor in a school, please contact the HBAL office.

Hat's off to the REALTORS Association for winning our Trivia Night in both the individual team competition and the overall association competition. We heard lots of great feedback about how fun the evening was for all involved. We look forward to challenging RAL in September 2018, with the hopes of bringing home the trophy next year! Our annual Santa Cop project was a huge success. Thank you to the committee for their hard work planning the event and all of our volunteers who helped. Besides building 70 wooden stacking block sets, we were also able to donate $700 to the Lincoln Police Union Charities for them to buy more toys for those in need. I look forward to the holiday season ahead and wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!

Kinning Wins Helicopter Ride

Congratulations, again, to Mary Kinning, Kinning Design Build, on bringing in the most new members during our Membership Lunch on September 14. Mary won a helicoptor ride and was able to share her experience with her husband and grandson. "Mike, Parker and I had a great time on our helicopter ride!! Larry was great, he gave us a great tour of Lincoln and the sights we asked to fly over!! He took time to explain how the helicopter functioned and answered Parkerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s questions!" When asked what motivated her to participate in the membership drive, Mary said, " I enjoy recruiting others that I feel can benefit from being a member of our great organization!"

We always tend to pause this time of year to reflect upon what we are grateful for. As I find myself doing that this week, I want to simply say thank you to everyone who had a hand in making YBP great this year! I have had a blast being part of such an outstanding group of people and Tyler Reynolds have loved watching us really find our YBP President path and grow as an organization. The year isn't over yet though. We revamped our Midday Meetups and hosted the first one on November 16 with around 30 people in attendance. We will now be meeting at the HBAL office once a quarter as one big group to help our members feel more connected with one another and for us to keep everyone updated on all the exciting things we have in the works. We voted in our 2018 officers at this meeting, too, and I am very excited to announce Hayley Lane will be President, Kelli Fleek Vice President and Amy Shinaut will be our new Secretary. We live-streamed the whole meeting on Facebook so if you missed it, catch up there and make sure to join us for the next one on March 20. We also have our holiday party coming up on January 25. You can find all the details about that on the next page. To address this, the Home Builders Association of Lincoln has partnered with other industry-related associations and created BuildOurNebraska.com, a resource for young adults looking for guidance and direction when thinking about their future career paths. This website is shared via high school guidance counselors, ads on hudl, social media and includes links to available positions in the construction industry. As a benefit to our members, we created a page on our website dedicated to job listings from our members. We are asking you to help us populate this page with your current job openings. Then starting on January 1, we will begin promoting HBAL’s Job Board via paid boosts on HBAL’s Facebook and Instagram accounts for one week. If you would like to take advantage of this extra exposure for your company AT NO CHARGE, please submit your job posting no later than December 15. Please note, you can submit your job postings at any time following the instructions on the opposite page.
