As we approach Christmas, my mind always wanders back to my years as a kid. Christmas was always a time that involved family. Family makeup changed over the years, but none-the-less, family was always a very important part of Christmas.

My dad loved Christmas! He was one of those guys who had the Christmas wreath attached to the grill of his car. He loved seeing the eyes of children light up as they experienced the joys of Christmas. He started an annual Christmas party at McPhee Elementary for under-privileged kids sponsored by his Optimist Club. He loved going shopping for the kids and always supplemented the club’s funds to purchase gifts. His joy watching the kids unwrap their presents was very apparent. He taught us that giving back is important. When the HBAL Family gathered at Lincoln Northeast High School for the annual toy build for Santa Cop, the joy of Christmas was very apparent. Nearly 100 people came together to build toys for the less fortunate children of our community. There were a number of families and children who experienced the joys of giving. As a result of their efforts, HBAL donated 70 sets of builder blocks and $1,000 cash directly to Santa Cop. Over the 30 years of this HBAL project, we have donated 2,500 toys to Santa Cop. It made me so very proud of our association and members and our continued focus on giving back to our great community. Thank you to all who helped in this annual endeavor. Speaking of community, HBAL members present at the November Membership Lunch heard Chief of Police Jeff Bliemeister speak about the job of the police department in our community. It was an informative and inspiring perspective from those charged with keeping our community safe. Thanks Chief to you and all your officers and public safety staff who keep us safe. I look forward to seeing everyone December 6 at the HBAL Christmas Party at the Country Club of Lincoln. The entertainment for the night will be hypnotist Doug MacCraw. HBAL Election & Membership Lunch

HBAL Election & Membership Lunch November 12, 2019 | Yankee Hill Country Club Lincoln’s Chief of Police, Jeff Bliemeister, was the guest speaker at HBAL’s annual election and membership lunch on November 12 at Yankee Hill Country Club. The Chief shared, similar to the construction industry, they are also struggling with labor shortage. He went on to tell a couple stories of recent calls where officers risked their own lives in order to save the life of someone who didn’t always have the best history with law enforcement. It was refreshing to hear one of those individuals invited the same officers who saved his life up to his hospital room to personally thank them. The perception of police officers has changed in the world of social media and people are quick to judge the action of officers based on videos shared. He reminded us those snippets of video do not tell the entire story and they will be held accountable for any wrongdoings.

HBAL Champions HBAL Champions (formerly known as Spikes) were recognized at the lunch. These are the members in our association who have recruited and are actively recruiting new and retained existing members in our association. To become an HBAL Champion, members must get 6 points in a year. Points come from recruiting new members and retaining members they have sponsored. HBAL Election & Membership Lunch

Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation At the luncheon, Mark Aksamit reported on recent events of the Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation. The 12th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot was held on October 11 with 147 shooters and raised almost $8,000 for the Foundation. More recently, HBAL completed its 30th toy build for Santa Cop. There were about 100 individuals who came to help with the project. We built 70 wooden builder block sets and donated $1,000 to Santa Cop. The officers involved with Santa Cop are taking our toys this year, dividing them between the stations and handing them out to kids they encounter while on duty. Mark encouraged everyone to participate in the next Foundation event, which is the Reverse Raffle at the HBAL Christmas Party on Friday, December 6.
