Executive Committee Herb Reese, President Matt Kinning, President Elect

President’s Message Herb Reese, HBAL President Thank you to everyone who donated and helped organized this year’s Santa Cop Project! Our members donated $2,600 and a carload of toys. Thank you for giving back to our community and bringing Christmas joy to families in need. A special thanks to Denny Van Horn, Matt Kinning and Ann Post for their time in reviewing the Mayor’s Draft Climate Action Plan. Ann Post has also testified at the Planning Commission regarding the City’s Affordable Housing Coordinated Action Plan. Thank you, Ann, for your help which is vital to helping housing in our community. We are reviewing and addressing potential amendments to the 2020 National Electrical Code. We hope this will be re-introduced in the 2021 Legislative session including our amendments. This is a good reminder of the importance of networking with our government officials so we can ensure bills are being passed that will help out our community. As the year ends, I have been reflecting, we have all become like the Grinch this year. Isolated in our homes, talking to our dogs, bored and eating way too much food. I have heard many people tell me they can’t wait for this year to be over. The Grinch would lock himself in his cave, isolated from Whoville just waiting for the moment Christmas was over. At the end of the movie the Grinch comes to the realization, “What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?” This year, more than others, has made me realize Christmas is not about the presents we receive, or the stuff we have, instead it’s about celebrating and being with the people I love. My hope for everyone this Christmas season is to stop being the Grinch and worrying about what is happening in the world. Instead even just for one day, focus on what is right in front of you, your family and friends. Enjoy the time you get to spend with them and be thankful for the opportunity to be fully present with your loved ones. On behalf of everyone at HBAL we would like to wish everyone a safe and joy filled Christmas season!

YBP Election of Officers

MERRY CHRISTMAS! I think you would all agree 2020 has been an interesting year! I’m thankful for serving as your 2020 President and for all of your Kelli Fleek support and patience YBP President throughout this year. We have worked hard through COVID-19 and the challenges it has created for us. We still had success with our two Hard Hat Happy Hours, with over $400 in donations to the backpack program for the Food Bank of Lincoln. The annual Light the Way 5K run/walk was canceled this year but our donors still participated with over $800 in proceeds for the Lighthouse. Thank you so much for your continued participation. We look forward to exciting things next year. Our officers are meeting soon to finalize the 2021 calendar. We have postponed our Holiday Party typically held in January. However, plans are in the works to have Christmas in July! We will install our new officers at the HBAL Installation & Awards Ceremony tentatively scheduled for January 11. I pray you are able to enjoy Christmas with family and loved ones this year. Be safe and stay healthy! God bless you all.

The following is the Young Building Professionals Council ballot for 2021. If you would like to nominate anyone else to the ballot, please contact Andrea at 402-423-4225 or andrea@hbal.org by December 1. President Sam Swartz

Last Call for Winter Items!

Publication of the Remodelers Council of Lincoln December 2020 • Vol. 23, No. 12

As we enter this holiday season, remember the reason for the season, spend time with family and be thankful for all the blessings in your life! The Remodelers Council met in November at Honest Abe’s downtown Heidi Polacek and then toured the Council newly remodeled Strode Remodelers Chairperson Building at 16th & O Street renovated by BK Restoration and Remodeling. It includes modern condos on the second floor and commercial space on the ground level. It’s always great to see an old building get new life! At the November meeting, our 2021 slate of officers was approved. Sue Eaton from Reimers Kaufman will be Chair, Tim Zeng from Zeng Granite will be Vice Chair and Erin Magnussen from Reese Construction will be Secretary. These officers will be installed at our December meeting. Speaking of our December meeting, we have decided to postpone our tour of Sun Valley Lanes until 2021. Instead, we will be meeting virtually on Wednesday, December 2 for our last meeting of the year. Please join us for some fun trivia and prizes! We will continue to collect hats, mittens, gloves, etc. for local elementary schools. If you would like to contribute, you can drop them off at the HBAL office prior to December 2. 22  Lincoln Business Builder

Although our Christmas Party will be held virtually, we are still accepting donations of hats, mittens, gloves and other cold weather items for Lincoln’s elementary schools. Donations can be dropped off at the HBAL office between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday until Wednesday, December 2. Thank you to those who have already donated!
