President’s Message Justin Johnson HBAL President I want to begin by saying thanks to all those who participated in our annual Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation Golf Tournament. From our wonderful HBAL staff who put in a long day, all the event committee members who volunteer their valuable time, to all the golfers who supported the cause. It was another successful event and I enjoyed seeing many of you out on the course. Make plans to attend the HBAL Hog Roast at Matt and Tracy’s Kleinschmit’s beautiful property on August 5. There will be fun for all including a BBQ dinner, bounce house for the kids, DJ/karaoke and yard games. This annual summer event is one you and your family won’t want to miss. Speaking of summer, the first day was officially June 20 but the intense heat lately feels like we’re smack dab in the middle of it. Please take extreme precautions for yourself and your employees and subcontractors when working in the heat. Go to www.osha.gov/SLTC/heatillness for more information on preventing heat related illnesses on your jobsite. The HBAL Executive Committee and Board of Directors have decided it’s time to update the HBAL Logo. After combing through multiple options and making some final touches, we’ve come up with a great new logo. We now have a committee in place to assist in marketing it to the community and our membership. We hope you will embrace the new logo and use it to help promote your own business. If you are working on a project such as branding your vehicle or creating a new ad campaign and would like to include the new logo, please call the HBAL office for the digital file. Otherwise, watch for next month’s issue of the Business Builder as we unveil the new logo!

HBAL Member Wins $50,000 Jeff White, owner of the local Aqua Systems, and his brother, Dan Warren, were the $50,000 grand prize winners of the “This is my EDGE” contest from U.S. Bank and MasterCard. Business owners across the country were asked to share what gave their business the edge. Jeff and Dan submitted a video about Springo, a sister company to Aqua Systems. They initially won $1,000 for being one of ten semi-finalists. It then was up to the public to vote and determine the winner. They were fortunate enough to win by a slim margin of 237 votes! Jeff said, “Every vote counted. I want to personally thank all that took the time to vote for us.”

Young Building Professionals Council

Welcome to YBP! Britta Muhleisen SpecSoft, Inc.

Want to be a YBP? Contact Andrea Wilkins at andrea@hbal.org or call 402-423-4225. Summer is in full swing and the 4th Annual Hog Roast is quickly approaching on August 5. There has been a change in plans and there will no longer be a foosball challenge, however, please join us for dinner at 5:30 p.m. There will be a DJ along with free family-friendly activities including yard games and a bounce house for the kids.

Matt Kinning Do you know someone who would enjoy YBP President being a part of the HBAL community? On July 20, join the HBAL Board Members and Staff for snacks and refreshments and help us share the opportunities HBAL has to offer to the community of Lincoln. For more information on participation or if you have someone you would like us to send membership information to, please refer to pages 6-7 for more details. Nebraska Title kindly hosted the June Hard Hat Happy Hour which kicked off the YBP support for the Food Bank of Lincoln’s BackPack Program. We had a great turnout and raised $90 in addition to the $500 donated by the Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation. We look forward to the continual YBP support for the BackPack Program. Thank you to those who took time out of their busy schedules to attend the last Midday Meetup. Our next Midday Meetup will be at Blue Blood Brewery on July 26, so mark your calendars and sign up ASAP as it will fill quickly. Also, if you would like to host a future Midday Meetup or get involved with any of the other YBP events please contact Andrea Wilkins at 402-423-4225 for more information.

The Young Building Professionals are proud to support the Food Bank of Lincoln’s BackPack Program. We kicked-off at the June Hard Hat Happy Hour and will continue the support throughout the year at YBP events. 20  Lincoln Business Builder

It pays to build more energy-efficient homes. Just let us know where to send the check.

The LES Sustainable Energy Program provides homebuilders significant incentives for installing high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment — up to $900 per ton on air conditioners, air source and ground source heat pumps. Whether you keep the incentives or pass them on to clients, you’ll help save energy, reduce environmental impact and delay the need to build expensive power plants. Help keep Lincoln’s electric rates among the lowest in the nation. Visit LES.com/SEP or call 402.475.4211 for complete details.
