Counting Blessings… This past weekend, I went for a walk down a gravel road near my home. As the sun started to go down, the fireflies began to light up around me. Thinking to myself, the kids would enjoy seeing this, I started to look for the best viewing place to bring them. To my surprise, the best spot was right behind my house! How could I have not noticed this before? What else have I been missing out on? Charles R. Swindoll once made note, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” So many times I find myself judging my performance, my family and my work that I seldom stop to appreciate all the blessings I have been given. Thankfully, my faith has taught me to realize God is in control of my life and He provides me all I need each day. When I started counting my blessings, my whole Unfortunately, it is easy for me to lose sight of life turned around. these gifts and take matters in my own hands. For this reason, I continue to challenge myself - Willie Nelson to reflect on my blessings each day. May God continue to provide the daily fruits for each one of us,

Behind the Scenes

Behind the scenes at HBAL By Michaela Harrison, Executive Vice President I am excited to share HBAL recently formed a Careers in Construction committee. This committee is working to promote careers in our industry to the youth of our community and beyond. We are currently working on creating a short video highlighting the building industry and why construction is a great career for our youth to consider. Special thanks to Denny Van Horn, Marlene Stroup, Pam Magner, Lori Wellman, Matt Kleinschmit, Matt Kinning, Taylor Ashburn and Dan Klein, Sr. for dedicating their time and talents toward this special need. The HBAL Board of Directors has approved a waste audit with Firstar Fiber. This study will educate us on how much waste is produced on an average residential construction site. Additionally, we will find out what other materials, besides cardboard, can be recycled. Thank you to Kinning Design Build for helping us complete the audit. I would like to commend Justin Johnson for his leadership with HOMEPAC this year. Justin, along with all HOMEPAC members did a great job supporting the City Council candidates who were like minded within our industry. Bo Jones and Andrea Wilkins have put together a great membership drive for this year. Please consider taking time to support this drive on September 14 by joining us for a free lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. This is a perfect opportunity to bring potential members and share a little bit about HBAL. We will also be giving away a helicopter ride to the person who signs up the most new members that day! THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!

Company Information: We are a full service Interior Design team that helps clients with everything from perfecting floor plans to providing the perfect furnishings.

Born May 23, 2017 6 lbs. 15 oz. • 19.5 in.

How did you get started in the business? I always enjoyed going through the Parade Homes as a kid and I grew up with a passion for Interior Design. Favorite Song: U2- 'With or Without You.'

Taylor & Cara Ashburn

Favorite Books: Dante’s Inferno. Favorite Movie: Star Wars series (Except the first 3).

West Gate Bank

Favorite TV shows: Survivor or Forensic Files. Favorite local restaurant: Lazlos.

They are the proud parents of a baby boy

What do you find rewarding: A client's ‘a-ha’ moment when they see a completed project or when you give them an idea for something they never would have thought of.

Anthony Francis

Biggest challenge in life: I have been a designer for about three years, but I have mostly assisted other designers. My next big step professionally would be to find one or two different builders who I could work with on a continuous basis. It can be intimidating because it’s difficult for me to talk to people I don’t know well.

Born June 7, 2017 7 lbs. 9 oz. • 20.75 in.

Matt & Lacey Kinning

What inspires you: Positive people. What did you want to be when you grew up? An artist. Pet Peeve: Slow drivers.

First thing I do in the morning: Re-set my alarm for 10 mins. Favorite vacation spot: Any beach in Mexico.

Madelyn Grace

Favorite thing to do on a day off? Take a nap.

Born June 13, 2017

Greatest Hero: I would say my dad. Everywhere we go he always sees someone he knows. Everyone speaks so highly of him and he is so well respected. I want to follow in his footsteps.

Childhood fear: Tornados. Family: My parents, brother & sister, 3 nieces. My cat, Puddin’ Toes.

Mike & Mary Kinning

Greatest accomplishment: Graduating college.

Kinning Design Build, Inc.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? I LOVE animals. Someday I want to have some sort of private zoo where I have a red panda, a fox, a raccoon, otters, a sloth, a koala and lots of dogs. LOL If you could have a super power, what would it be? Heal the sick, cure cancer. What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? Hand drafting. I do most of it by computer because it’s a lot faster but there’s a bigger sense of accomplishment when you do anything by hand. Which talent would you most like to have? I’d like to know how to play the guitar, without having to actually take the time to learn. If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? Jesus Christ, I have a lot of questions.

HBAL Golf Tournament

HBAL Golf Tournament Raises $10,000 for Habitat for Humanity From the desk of your HBAL President:

Job well done to the golf committee on this year’s Lincoln Home Builders Care d Foundation Golf Tournament. I am so prou 000 to announce this event has raised $10, ’s to support Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln construction of their 150th Home! - Matt Kleinschmit

About Habitat: • Future homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. • With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families. • 90% of surveyed Habitat homeowners in 44 U.S. cities said they could not have owned a home without help from Habitat. • 1 in 5 children in Lincoln live in poverty. To qualify for a Habitat loan, a family of four would need an income between $24,300 and $35,200. • Children of homeowners are 116% more likely to graduate from college compared with children in families who do not own their homes. • The foreclosure rate on Habitat houses in the U.S. is less than 2% on an annualized basis. • Habitat for Humanity International began in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller in Americus, GA. There are 1,500 U.S. affiliates and over 70 international sites. • Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln was formed in 1988. To date, we have built or repaired 149 homes in Lancaster County. 17  Lincoln Business Builder

Contact one of the following hosts to attend: Summer is officially here and we started its first weekend off with a bang on June 24 with our inaugural Light the Way 5K run at Holmes Lake. We had an excellent turnout and want to thank everyone who donated their time, energy and money to help make this event a success. We will be donating the Tyler Reynolds proceeds of this event directly to the YBP President Lighthouse. Join us on July 13 when we host an Ice Cream Social for the kids and present them with a check. We're excited to officially kick off our new partnership with this great organization. On the heels of this successful event, we are not letting the summer heat slow us down. We now turn our attention to the Hog Roast on August 11 where we will be organizing a "Bags Tournament." All are welcome to enter the tournament by filling out the form on page 7, calling Andrea Wilkins at 402-423-4225 or emailing her at andrea@hbal.org. This family-friendly event is sure to be a blast as we feature a very special musical guest, Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal. Josh is a local musician who appeared on the latest season of NBC's show, The Voice. So warm up those throwing arms for the bags tournament and your dancing shoes for Josh Hoyer and we'll see you on August 11 at 11401 Van Dorn Street. Please stay tuned for more exciting events to come and as always, if you have other ideas of how to make our group even greater or would like to get more involved, please contact Andrea.
