President’s Message Bo Jones, HBAL President
Thank you to all who participated in the 2018 Nebraska Builders Home and Garden Show. Despite the snowy conditions the Show still had a great turnout. Feedback from other exhibitors was positive about the quality of people attending the Show. Thank you to the HBAL staff and volunteers who also help make the Show a success! This is a very busy time of year at HBAL. There are several bills in the State Legislature that we are actively monitoring. If you have questions about legislative bills that could potentially affect your business, give me or the HBAL office a call. The Board of Directors are also closely watching the Citizens’ Transportation Coalition recommendations as they progress towards a potential ballot issue in the fall to raise sales tax rates. Several members recently met with staff from the Building & Safety Department. See page 5 to view changes that will be implemented March 1. Make sure to join us for the 10th annual Chili Cook-off which will benefit the Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation. There are spaces available for contestants or if you just want to hang out we’ll take care of the cooking. This is a great family event you don’t want to miss! Hope to see you all on March 12!

Corporate Partner Spotlight | Member News
Corporate Partner Spotlight How long has Lincoln Federal been in business? We opened for business in 1906, so about 112 years ago! Lincoln Federal has locations across Nebraska and we are committed to giving back to the communities that we serve. We seek to provide our customers with personalized service, which in today’s age is frequently lost. What services do you offer? We offer complete banking services. On the retail side we provide Savings, Checking, Certificates of Deposit, Credit Cards and Online Banking. On the lending side we are one of the leading lenders in Lancaster County for residential mortgages and also residential construction loans. We offer competitive loan products for investment properties and commercial properties as well. How many employees do you have? 110 What community service events do you participate in? As a Nebraska based bank, we participate in numerous activities across the state such as: Habitat for Humanity, United Way, TeamMates, Junior Achievement, Lincoln Federal’s very own Holiday Food Basket Program benefitting LPS students, Matt Talbot Kitchen, Santa Cop, Boy Scouts of America, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, our community blood banks, Make-A-Wish and various food pantries across Nebraska. How long have you been a member of HBAL? Since 1963, over 50 years. What HBAL events does Lincoln Federal participate in? You get out of a project what you put into it. We feel HBAL provides a tremendous service to the industry and we appreciate the opportunity to participate
in HBAL projects. It would be easier to list what we don’t participate in, but to name a few: general membership meetings, Chili Cook-off (2 time winner), Parade of Homes committee, HBAL Golf Tournament, Hog Roast, Sporting Clay Shoot, Santa Cop. Why do you belong to HBAL? HBAL is a very giving organization, so it is easy to help when HBAL has a project to work on. From the Santa Cop Project, to Habitat Houses, to building ramps, to major remodels, to building the Lighthouse. All provide a needed service to the community and all happened because this Association stepped up to the plate knowing our members would also respond. The Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation also provides charitable contributions to the community. The Association itself and its members are top notch and very well respected in the community, so again it makes it an easy choice to belong. For the builders and associates directly related to the industry, HBAL provides an invaluable service that often goes unnoticed when lobbying at the local, state and national level to keep the laws, regulations and codes reasonable. In short, HBAL is a great organization with great members. That’s why we belong.

Huge thank you to the Window & Door Store for hosting our first Hard Hat Happy Hour of 2018. Unfortunately, Hayley Lane we had to postpone due to slick YBP President weather conditions. I hope you plan to attend on Tuesday, March 6. This is a great opportunity to network and share your business with other members. Please contact Andrea at the HBAL office if you would like to attend or if you are interested in hosting. Please mark your calendars for March 20 when we will be hosting a Midday Meetup at the HBAL office. This will be our second lunch in this format. We wanted to change things up to give YBP a chance to come together on a more regular basis. These regular meetings will provide opportunity for council updates, upcoming project information, member feedback and networking. Our next project with the Lighthouse is in April. If you have any ideas of ways you would like to see us get involved with Lighthouse or would like to get involved, please send me an email at Hayley@rezacconstruction.com. Are you a fan of chili? Have an awesome chili recipe? Or just like to have fun? The Chili Cook-off is March 12 and would be a great opportunity to get involved by donating your time, prizes or talent of cooking.
