President’s Message
President’s Message Denny Van Horn, HBAL President
Tis the month to give Thanks. The first national Thanksgiving Day was proclaimed by President George Washington in 1789. However, it did not become a regular holiday in the United States until 1863 when Abraham Lincoln declared that the last Thursday in November should be celebrated as Thanksgiving.

More and more, we have become a society that relegates our gratitude and thanks for our blessings to the last Thursday of November. Probably a safe assumption to attribute this to the pace of life we live. Many of us just can’t slow down and find a few minutes each day to think about all the blessings we have and to express thanks. William Arthur Ward reminds us that: “Gratitude can transform the common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” As Americans we have so much to be thankful for including: freedom of speech and expression, religious freedom, educational and employment opportunities, a democratic government with the right to vote, and many other things people all over the world do not experience. We have so much to be thankful for it isn’t possible to express the breadth of thankfulness in just one day. We all have many additional blessings to add to the list and at the top of those for me are family and friends. I know it isn’t New Year’s yet, but I am resolving to make sure I express my thanks and gratitude daily. High on my list will be saying thanks to my subs and suppliers for the work they do to make my team successful. Also on my list will be fellow HBAL members and staff for their commitment to our Association and for the good we do for our industry and the community. “No one who achieves success does so without the help of others. The wise and confident acknowledge this help with gratitude.” – Alfred North White Head. The Fall Parade of Homes was a great success. Thanks to all who made it possible. Remember the Santa Cop Project on November 9 in the LNE wood shop starting at 8:00 a.m. Please bring your family and come out for this very special HBAL tradition. HBAL is sponsoring an LPS Band in the November 9 Veterans Day Parade which starts at 2:00 p.m. Remember the HBAL Election luncheon at Yankee Hill Country Club on November 12 at 11:30 a.m. Chief of Police, Jeff Bliemeister will be our guest speaker. Thank you to Ben Carey and Jereme Montgomery for once again leading our efforts to work with LPS students. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please contact one of them or the HBAL Office to volunteer. One last thought, “If you are really thankful, what do you do? You share.” – W. Clement Stone. Happy and Safe Building!

2020 HBAL Election of Officers Pam Magner, Reynolds Design & Remodeling
Pam grew up in Holdrege, NE and graduated from UNK in 1991 with a double major in Kitchen & Bath Design and Business. After graduation she moved to Iowa and worked for Fieldstone Cabinetry. Realizing she was a Nebraska girl at heart, she and her husband moved to Lincoln in 1992 and have lived here ever since. Pam began working at Reynolds Design & Remodeling in 1993 and earned her CKD and CBD soon after joining Roger’s team. As a person who loves to cook, Pam enjoys creating beautiful kitchens that are also just as efficient to work in. She loves the challenge of remodeling because it allows her to create multiple design solutions for any given space. In 2006, after 13 years, she left Reynolds to spend more time with her 3 children. During that time she worked from home for Kraftmaid Cabinetry creating KBIS displays, kitchens for their literature, and displays for Home Depot and Lowe’s throughout North America. As the economy plummeted, Pam also decided to earn her Master’s Degree in Teaching. In 2014, while teaching, Pam received a call from Arlyn Copley, who had purchased Reynolds Design & Remodeling from Roger Reynolds, and was offered the position of General Manager. Rejoining the Reynolds team after an 8-year absence was a dream come true and Pam is committed to maintaining the quality and reputation of the company that still carries Roger’s name. She is involved in all marketing decisions, financial aspects and project management, as well as the designing and selling of projects. Pam served as Chair of the Remodelers Council in 2017. She enjoys being involved in HOMEPAC and governmental issues affecting homebuilders. Pam has also been active in PTOs at her kids’ schools and a Sunday school teacher. Pam and her husband, Kip, are celebrating 27 years of marriage! They love the laughter and time shared with their children Logan (22), Aubrey (18) and Garrett (15) as well as their extended family. In her free time Pam enjoys reading, baking and anything that allows her to be creative.
